In Fabric (2018)
If you wanted the suspiria remake to be better
Than it was; then this is the movie for you.
The user review on here titled 'Mommy' pretty much sums it up... The reviews trashing this film are a little heartbreaking and very confusing as to what kind of film the reviewers were expecting to watch....
If you're a fan of the genre this film is great.
Well acted, beautifully shot. Best score i've heard in a film in a long time. a fetishistic fever-dream with a remarkable attention to detail. The drawbacks were so minor compared to the overall composition, that they aren't worth mentioning. Form those, if any on your own. Your viewing shouldn't be clouded by others opinions headed into this.
Like i'm trying to say in the title; if the Suspiria remake disappointed you as a fan of the original and the genre... watch this movie! loud!
The Past Is a Grotesque Animal (2014)
Grotesque
As someone who just got into the band via their latest release "Lousy with Sylvianbriar', I was completely unaware of how versatile and prolific Of Montreal have been over the past decade and a half. This film exposed me to their music and history in the most immersive and interesting way possible. If you're unfamiliar with them, I recommend just diving into this film. Since watching it, I haven't been able to listen to anything else. Their catalogue is expansive and quite phenomenal. As far as 'Rock Docs' go, of which I've seen a million, this is right up there with the best. It may, in fact, be my favourite. What a trip it is to take in under 2 hours. Long live Kevin Barnes' Of Montreal!
Magic Magic (2013)
A Great Film That The Internet Is Misunderstanding
Magic Magic is hilarious, and judging by the reviews on here, Tomato Site & And the trailer's YT comments : Almost nbody is getting it.
Its a great movie, blatantly a carefully executed satire from start to finish. You could say it's literally as though Lars Von Trier was directing a Tim & Eric thriller. So many tropes of modern horror/thriller get played on constantly throughout... The incredible tension between all characters is relentless but is 90% of the time surrounding completely trivial/mundane situations. It tows this line of forced tension, excellently, throughout the entire film. From the CD stuck in the stereo, the song itself, the roadside puppies, to Alicia saving the goddamn parrot magazine page, it really never ends!
I understand why tons of people will not be appreciating the film at all and yet I'm very surprised to see that even in many positive reviews, peoples praise of Micheal Cera for stepping out of his comfort zone to actually frighten or make the audience uncomfortable. I think Cera signature is uncomfortable and that he plays this role very similarly to Tim Heidecker's portrayal a hipster in The Comedy.
His timing, delivery and technique in Magic Magic are the kind patented in that camp of actors/writers/comedians/producers.(T&E,Odenkirk,Cross etc.)
I was shitting myself with laughter all the way to the end of this film and loving it. Just look at the cover of the DVD people. About 90% of people reviewing/commenting on this film seem to be treating it as a genuinely thrilling drama, or a very lame horror movie...yeah...i dunno about that.
