East New York (2022)
RENEW THIS SERIES!
This is one of the most original and entertaining series I've seen for a LONG time. I'm reading that it wasn't going to be renewed, and that now it's "vaguely possible" that it might, and that makes me wonder wth these studios think, when they renew utter cr*p at the drop of a hat, but hurl into the dumpster the brilliant, fresh, and DIFFERENT series like East New York. What do viewers have to do to actually TRUST that television is going to sometimes be at this high level, when studios keep dumping brilliant shows and renewing NONSENSE. Studios: LEARN what the public wants. You did learn, and now you're dumping it???
RENEW IT. READ THAT AGAIN: RENEW IT.
Will Trent (2023)
Just One Question...
Can someone tell me how realistic it is that this guy is illiterate? How did he get through the Police Academy, write reports, do exams, write tickets as a rookie...I mean, okay, the premise of him being illiterate could have potential, but how on earth does someone illiterate become a detective and go through the entire process to do so?!
I'm baffled. Regardless, I like this guy, it's a good casting (except for the terminally irritated Sonja Sohn, she overacts and is annoying in her permanently peeved mood...get over it woman, take a pill).
I'd like to see the team actually become a team: they're a bit loose and unbound at the moment, but I like Trent and hope he sticks around.
Better (2023)
Just No "Kapow"
The goal of the lead character is to make the viewer like them. This woman...nothing wrong with her, but also nothing THERE with her. Dexter, for eg., was a serial killer, and Michael C. Crawford worked that character, made the whole world love him. Who before had ever loved a serial killer?!! This woman is a corrupt cop, and ok, fine, she's hardly "evil," but still she hasn't been able to make me side with her...I'm with Col, to be honest...I feel like he's got me wanting HIM to win and to kick her ar$e!
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the story, but she doesn't have what it takes to pull an audience in and make them want her to win. She constantly looks pained, and it's kind of annoying after a while. Even her husband is shot of her and her whiny, selfish thoughts.
This character needs more kapow. I'm not done with the series, but I hope she shows some before it's over, because if I get to the end of the series and she's still as exciting as tepid tea, then I'm downing my star rating to 0.
Pieces of Her (2022)
The Daughter Should Watch More Crime Shows!
I love Toni Collette, but WOAH is this baaaaad writing....the daughter, I mean, how clueless is she??? It's WAY too hard to watch someone so dull headed they mess the entire thing up with their stupidity, right from the get go...save your time, this writing is too bad.
La Brea: Topanga (2021)
JUST TOO GOOD!
Look, the premise of this series was dodgy...even if true. But it was fascinating to watch, and to be honest I'd watch anything with Natalie Zea. This series grew on me, and I love it in all its awkwardness and unknown faces and originality....don't listen to the negative nellies carping on about how bad it is, yet, what, they watched it?!! Please...just watch it, it's a great time filler!
Filthy Rich (2020)
Like "Succession" On Crack-dusted Sacrement Bread!!
Oh wow! This is BRILLIANTLY and hilariously delicious. PLEASE, if you want "serious," FIND ANOTHER SERIES! This is, as @reyamanda pointed out, Kim Cattrall's TRUE "diva" moon rising!! She is magnificient, and the fabulous Gerald McRaney as Eugene, equally so. Sheer, down-dirty, hypocrite-bashing delightfulness!! Go ahead, binge the entire series: you won't regret it!
With Intent (2021)
Brilliantly original story-line
Loved this: it's rare to see an original storyline that plays out so well. It was so brilliantly done, I liked all the characters, especially watching Becky's change of heart, and having to remind myself of her malicious behaviour initially, coming from the UK to aide him in institutionalising his wife.
Good story, well timed and played out well, all over hit.

Why Women Kill (2019)
10/10 For FIRST SEASON ONLY!
This was a brilliant and original series, and the characters were SO well cast. But unfortunately, Season 2 veers so offtrack from the first, too different: the first was three women living in three different decades (the 60s, 70s, and 80s), each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. Read all the positive reviews and you'll see everyone loved it.
But Season 2?! OK, I love the characters, but it's episode 4 and it's STILL on the same one woman. It doesn't switch from decade to decade, nor does it portray the lives of three different women in three different decades all in the same house. It's one woman, one decade, one house. Yes, it's good, but it's like a completely different series: it doesn't resemble Why Women Kill at all....
Forever (2018)
Are You People on Meds?!
People raving about this show are clearly in need of medication. There is NOTHING substantial about it, NOTHING. Andre & Sarah, what happened? Talk about DISJOINTED. Nothing means anything, it's REALLY limited, people rave on about "existentialism," but I gotta tell ya, if this what you perceive the afterlife to be anything like, you had better get the heck out the house right now and go to a temple or a bookstore and LEARN SOMETHING
The Accident (2019)
Believe the Reviews
I found it hard to believe that actors like the incredible Sidse Babett Knudsen (uniquely talented star of the Danish series, "Borgen"); Sarah Lancashire (brilliant in "Last Tango in Halifax" and "Happy Valley"); Joanna Scanlan, who totally carried "No Offence"; and Eiry Thomas, impressive in her role in "Keeping Faith") could actually be part of such a bad production. The writing is ATROCIOUS; the plot so thin, the supporting cast just ... well ... "unglued" is the only thing I can think of.
This is, all round, an absolute fail. I still can't get over these four brilliant women being part of something so bad; they're SO good, but even they couldn't carry this incredibly limp and scattered script. It SHOULD have been good, but it fails. I'm really, really disappointed. What a waste of incredible talent....
The Romanoffs: Bright and High Circle (2018)
I thought I was watching the Romanoffs???!!
This is the second episode that has done the same thing: failed completely to make a single mention of or connection to the Romanoffs. What on EARTH is going on???!!
The Romanoffs: Expectation (2018)
Who's the Romanoff?!
Still can't figure out what this vignette has to do with the Romanoffs. It's a kinda standalone, interesting, well played vignette of a woman's life decisions and how they come home to roost in one day...good cast, but still scratching my head about how it landed in the Romanoff series. Maybe there was a mixup at the studio? :))
Sharp Objects (2018)
Just brilliant...
Firstly, in terms of character and reality, I have to hand it to Amy Adams: her jawline isn't chiselled, she's wearing no makeup, she has some pounds on, she has no real concern for her appearance, she drinks and smokes, she has obvious 'demons' she is struggling with, and she's real and down to earth: not some Hollywood employee cast in a role and 'made to fit.' She moved into the role and brought with her all the accoutrements that the character required. Kudos...
Secondly, if you had a childhood free from issues and incidences, you'll possibly only relate to this series as some form of well-produced entertainment with actors who do a good job. If you had a childhood that wasn't like that, you'll relate; more, if you had a childhood that carries the same kinds of issues portrayed here, you'll know exactly what is going on at any given moment. It's not pretty...but then, life isn't. If it is for you, then you're fortunate. But the majority have some form of relatable background to this script and dramatisation. That Adams carries it off as well as she does is, again, a reason to admire her abilities - which heretofore have been swathed in picture-perfect roles complete with full makeup and costume assistance. This series has no such sidekicks...
Third, I don't know where they found Sophia Lillis, who plays Amy Adams' young Camille to her adult version, but wow...just WOW. She is an absolute carbon copy of a young Amy Adams, possibly more real than the actual version! Brilliant find, and with the same kind of character that the older Camille portrays. Fine work to cast her.
Fourth, the discovery of Elizabeth Perkins (perhaps most famous for her role in Weeds (as Celia Hodes) was a wonderful thing. Such an incredibly adaptable actress with a range that would make the Rockies look like toddlers! As the beautifully pink flower-decorated turquoise silk caftan-wearing town lush, Jackie - appearing as she does with a throwaway cup of liquor-laced 'sweet tea' on a crisp clear autumn morning during the hunt for the topical missing girl - , she appears as a breath of promising fresh air early in the first episode, and right at that moment you know this series is going to go the distance. Stellar casting...all up, each way...
As a slight deviation from this 'to the point' review, I have to note the abundance of redheads in the cast: from Adams, to Perkins, then Clarkson (who we'll get to!), right thru to Catherine Carlen (another jewel in this casting lotto win), and even to the smaller roles played by Madison Davenport and Lulu Wilson, it seems to be a recurring theme and a strong foundational premise of them all being from that one small town. Not that the script speaks to interrelations, but rather to an indication that the town has strong, deep roots in an old culture from somewhere else but the deep south of America...as the deep south of America actually does...
Fifth, Patricia Clarkson's sweeping into the series in a very suth'n way - in a pink evening gown-come-house-dress that knocks the socks off "ordinary" - is just perfection. She won us over recently in House of Cards as Claire Underwood's confidant/advisor, and in Sharp Objects she is the doyenne of the small - but by no means limited - country town from which Amy Adam's character, Camille, hails, and in which Clarkson is Adams' "mama," Dora. What casting!!
Her southern politeness stuns from the get-go: "the house isn't up to par for visitors," when it's her own daughter she's welcoming; "can I get you something to drink?" like she's welcoming an acquaintance, not her own child. But her seeming coolness is swiftly revealed as a mother's genuine love...
...and all this in the first episode...
In short? Just watch it....it's brilliant....
Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994)
An Abomination
Within two minutes I was horrified, but watched more out of a sense of morbid fascination. Jennifer Jason Lee is the WORST ACTRESS EVER if this is any indication! She acts the part like a bitter, bored, frumpy, ugly suburban housewife. No charm, no smarm even...just as flat as a wooden board. I am disgusted she was chosen, when the supporting cast was wonderful...WHAT A WASTE
