Feel good traditional heist movie
17 April 2024
There's nothing wrong with this movie. Though not perfect, it's a rewatchable movie for sure.

The pros: voice actings are perfect. One I'm a fan of Sam rockwell but didn't know he was in this. So I was peasantly surprised when I heard the voice of wolf. The others are also spot on.

The animation is great, especially how they portray snakes movements. The story is good with enough twists (and there's a good number) keeps me on my edge.

Never a boring time.

Hope there would be more characters but then it would have bloated the runtime. Story is also kinda predictable if you've seen enough heist movies.

More war againts indegenous people movie
26 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hated it from the start.

The only awe-inspiring part similar to the first movie was the middle half, when they arrived to the water tribe and learned new Skills.

But it starts with the sky people coming back. Then cuts one year later showing how the natives are thwarting the sky peoples' plan to expand on their planet.

Then the same bad guy from the first movie came back in avatar form. Along with his crew. Why? To get Sully. The guy he actually failed to beat.

So again in this movie, he failed again. But he actually lived this time thanks to his son.

The fight scene was great at the end. I was rooting for the outcast whale all the way.

Was wondering where the other water tribe Navii went after that. They were just gone. The fight didn't end yet and the main family protagonist are still struggling BTW.

It's just didn't click with me. With all the war in reality, actual people dying. Lands taken forcefully by selfish people. It just hits too close to home. All that money and the movie they make is about an army / government taking over land belonging to natives. Not a fan.

Not looking forward for the next one.

I watched this just because the wife wants to see it. I was not impressed. Didn't pay imax. Not worth it. Go watch the first one and be done with it.

Please avoid this movie. If only for the fact that the main actor CANNOT act. What's worse, he won "Best actor" beating Shahezy Sam (polis evo)!!!
2 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have turned off brain as I was in holiday in Sabah. Diving, seeing turtles, eating pisang goreng cheese so I wasn't thinking so much. This movie put me off. The main actor is emotionless. Same expression if not getting angry. In most scenes, I can't tell is he's sad, regretfully, indifferent? His supposed girl friend got harrased by some bikers and he took his own sweet time to come. Same expression throughout. Is he mad? I can't tell.

And he won best actor? By the "Malaysian Film Festival" no doubt. And he's the director!?!?! Wife said the director probably wants him to have that expression. Well, good thing he didn't won 'best director'. Worse example of a director and actor in Malaysia.

Want to give 2 stars but there's no redeeming factors here. Sorry. Not sorry.

Fun and refreshing
5 August 2021
I enormously enjoyed this movie. Didn't care that it was based on a game. I don't understand the low ratings. This is a fun and refreshing horror comedy that I needed now (circa 2020-2021 pandemic). I love werewolf films. This movie mixes comedy, fun and horror nicely.

Surprising Christmas Movie!
15 December 2020
Coincidentally it is close to Christmas and I was intrigued by this movie starring young Ben Affleck and Charlize Theron. Surprised when it opens with scenes with Santa's. Surprised that the story was close to Christmas eve.

It also reinforces my fandom of Gary Sinese.

Anyone wants a new movie to be added into the "Christmas movie" list like Die Hard, this is it.

Upgraded Short Circuit!!
13 December 2020
My wife was amused as I was screaming away at the storylines. But not complaining the story. It's one of those movies that has characters that are believably real. Plots happens coz it could and are logic. We see nerds tripping over rocks and stairs while running coz they don't run often. So they fall. We see frustrations when things go wrong. Real frustrations. Frustrations that make them do the exact same thing when they are stressed even though they know it has consequences for themselves. But it's their character. We see people who can cope well with stress coping well (they are the higher ups). Actual medical students attitudes are almost real. I've trekked through jungles before and being a doctor, I can relate to them. There's always the high strung one, the wannabe-cool one, the panicky one.

The robots are good. Design and animation flawless for me. There's robot vs robot action. Man vs man action. Some robot vs man action and they do not drag on. It's short coz logically in real world normal people, even trained people in normal situations get tired. Anyone who has fought in competitions would not that 2 minutes is a long time.

It does become draggy a bit in the middle. There are some plot holes. Overall good. Might have been better if they get a well known actor but then if it's an action-hero, it's gonna focus on that; the fighting action. This movie is kinda like Predator + Short Circuit + Hard Target + Halloween (maybe).

Hope there's a sequel!

Got bored with the fights
30 November 2020
If you watch this for the fight, please skip. It's not that good. A lot of brawler type knife wielding action but not much skill. Main protagonist is too durable to a point you just got tired of it. Only martial arts fight is from Iko and Julie. There is no way that they can fight as long as they can and still land those types of punches and kicks accurately. It's not realistic. Another thing that bothers me is the useless henchmen. They have guns but keeps gawking at the assailant before firing. I keep yelling "Shoot already!!". Sigh. Also there's 90% one-at-a-time fight when someone's in a group. And all have knives. Come on! If you're an Iko fan, see his fights at the beginning and at the end.

Different but Unwelcome plot drives the movie down.
13 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I love the x-men and has been a fan since high-school and has collects their comics since. I'm not familiar with The new Mutants so much as I am a fan of the core team. But have read some of their stories.

This movie is different from the others as it has less action. There's an attempt at character study but they can't seem to focus. For me, the romance part can be left out as it adds nothing to the story or dynamic. Some side-glances and hints are OK but no, they want to shove it down our throats. I mean can't a group of teenagers be in the same place and just be friends and a good teammates? They don't strike me as in need of a relationship while trying to figure out what and who they are.

Without it I would give it a 7.5.

Paused to do some chores,...
1 November 2020
I have not seen the other movie led by Angelica Houston. I am a fan of Anne Hathaway. I have not read the book. So I watched this with an open mind. The 1st 3rd is kinda slow. To long scenes on the boy and grandma. Expositions? establishing the relationship? maybe. Then the scene at the hotel is when it starts to have some action but still we have to droll on in most scenes. The unmasking could be more dramatic. The boy could be more clever. It would be great if they added more backstory on the characters especially grandma and Mary. Maybe not. It's a meh for me.

Surprising good heavy sword fight
13 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The scene where Red Sonja vs Kalidor is surprisingly good. Heavy swords clanging. The climax fight is also good. Not much editing like a lot of movies nowadays. Wish the intro on her origins are longer though. Simple story. Don't know why people hated it.

Fun and suspenseful
9 October 2020
It's a different story from most murder mysteries. Kate plays Carrie, a Marshall at an Antarctic Base Camp when someone was murdered. The first murder ever in the place. A UN cop comes along to help. From there, they try to piece together what the murders were about and how it is somehow connected to a Russian plane crash 50 years prior. Interesting plot. Not so predictable. Suspense almost non-stop. I only got up to get drinks when the scene shows the on coming CGI storms. Enjoyed every minute.

Loved it. Daisy is amazing. Visuals are great.
30 May 2020
I was afraid to watch this due to the fact that I have never read or seen Hamlet or anything related, and the poor reviews. But one Saturday afternoon, on a cloudy day, just finishing opening up a hot skull of a woman having increased intracranial pressure, the wife and decided, what the heck. And so, I immensely enjoyed it. Story was engaging, Daisy as cute as ever. The banter not too dragging. No need for expositions. Naration was just enough. Good movie. Watch it yourself for what it is, not what it is supposed to be (I guess).

Good cast. Simple story
17 May 2020
I liked it. Really liked it. I don't understand the low ratings. Maybe people comparing it to the series. Maybe people got to involved in the narative. It's quite common nowadays that viewers are hard to please. But this movie for me is good. Gave it a 10. Sticking to it. I liked the female leads. All of them. The background politics is enough not to intrude on the story so much. Just enough. No naration. No lengthy explanations. Just enjoy the movie for what is is.

Fun film
17 April 2020
It is genuinely a fun film. The cast seems to be enjoying themselves. The plot is easy. Actors are eye candy. Film is also self-aware of it's own cheesiness. Fun time for couples and adults who like simple humour.

Nothing wrong!!
2 November 2019
I found nothing wrong with the movie. Very reminiscent of T2 (favourite movie btw). Classic James Cameron style. Gripping suspense and action. Upgraded heroes and villians. One liners are the best.

Great Comic Book Movie!! To End An Era!!
30 August 2019
The bad reviews made me miss this gem at the movies initially. I am an avid x-men fan. This movie for me did justice to the characters. Except mistique. She can go ahead and die. That one was anoying. I love what was done to Storm, Nightcrawler and Cyclops. Especially Cyclops. What happened in X3 all those years ago is forgotten. Non-stop action. Some drama but that is expected in a comic book movie. I loved it. I do not know what the other reviewers were expecting. Maybe too much? The actual Dark Pheonix Saga is, as the name implies, a saga! It can't be contained in a single movie. So having an alternate movie showcasing the characters in the x-men saga is good enough. It's definitely better than X3. I just loved it! It would get a 10 if not for one anoying character but hey, nobody's perfect.

Good crime & suspense movie
24 August 2019
Overall, good movie. There are some instances where the story is slow (early mid) but it adds to the suspense. It's nice where the clues are hidden and reveals themselves slowly. I like to be kept guessing up till the climax. Fans of the actors would like a change of pace for the characterers. Good to kill time. Not much gore which is nice considering a lot of new movies around seems to drive the hard R rating too much, it gets boring.
