Nothing like the others
5 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I just feel like I should have skipped this one and maybe I would if I watched the trailer first. I really like The Conjuring series and find them really scary, with great stories and actors. But not this one. The story is generic, leaves alot unexplained and doesn't have the same heart to it, that the others have. I just don't feel for anyone other then Ed and Lorraine, and that's only because of the great actors.

Having a human as the villain, instead of a demon in the forefront like the other movies, is the biggest mistanke in my opinion. That woman is not scary. I know a demon is behind all this, but we almost never see it.

I don't think being thrown into a posession scene from the very beginning was a good choice either, cause we as viewers have no relationship with the characters yet. We've also seen all of this before. Nothing new or interesting was shown. Bodies twisting, blood splashing from taps, dead bodies coming alive, wind blowing and furniture flying. All of this is old news in horror movies, and it takes more to make a great one. These things only work if the movie is tense, the story has heart and we care about the people experincing it. But they also have to add new creative and effective ways to scare the viewers, and in this movie they just don't.

All in all it was ok, nothing more.

Great start, bad ending

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS

It started out great in my opinion! Creepy, realistic and very tense. Until the victim manages to run away, and it all fell apart.

First of all, she ran into what looked like a huge forest in the middle of nowhere. Yet somehow, the creeper manages to track her down so easily. It's very unrealistic and what I think they should have done instead is trick the viewer into thinking he was onto her. Having her hear noises etc, but then reveal that he was actually in another part of the forest the whole time. With some drone shots panning over the forest near the ending. And never have them meet again after she escapes. In stead she would eventually find the road after days out there, and get help from a passing car. I would also liked to have seen the creep searching for her and then hear sirens in the distance drawing closer, and him realising it was all over. That would keep the tension, but be more belivable in my opinion.

The whole thing with her getting into his car and calling 911 from the back of it was just stupid. No one would ever do that. And who leaves their keys in the car anyways. If the forest was small enough for him find her all the time, it also would have been small enough for her to find a road to take her back. Or find the dead guy's car and try to start it.

I also didn't think the call to his wife and the final "battle" at the ending, was any good. It just felt like an attempt to make the leading lady seem more badass then she really was.

It was an ok movie, but I would have like to have seen some more realistic things happen.

Boring
1 April 2020
Slow paced boring movie. I don't understand the other reviews talking about this being tense and not knowing what comes next. To me it was very straight forward. I feel like I've seen this plot a million times before, only done so much better. The cast try their best, but it's just so boring. The entity isn't scary and I don't care about any of the characters.

Don't bother if you saw the trailer....

Cause it basically shows the entire plot of the movie.

It has some good parts with a little suspense and the effects are great. But the story isn't really captivating and I wish we had more backstory. I didn't really care much about the main character and that's pretty essential for a good thriller/horror.

Dracula (2020)

Good in the beginning, fails in the final act.

We all know Bram Stokers Dracula, so when I saw that this show was based on that book, I expected them to take liberties and make it different. And they definitely do! This is camp, funny and over the top. So if you go in expecting intense drama, this is not it. But it's also a interesting story in some ways and has alot of twists and turns.

I really like the actors playing the nun Agatha and Dracula himself. They are both likeable and have great chemistry on screen. The supporting cast in episode 2 are also charming and funny.

So it's all fun and games until the last episode. It's all downhill from here. I don't like this plot twist and wish they would have just ended it after episode 2. Everything becomes ridiculous and sometimes too much of something is just overkill. I won't spoil anything, but let's just say I don't find Dracula believable in his "new" environment.

The Witcher (2019– )

Not bad, not great.
21 December 2019
First of all, I've read the books and played the games several times. Geralt is my all time favorite game character and I also love Yennefer. I was so excited for this show and maybe my expectations were to high...

It's not a bad show. Henry Cavill is awesome as Geralt. And I really like the casting of Dandelion and Ciri. The fight scenes are great and I love the look of Geralt casting signs.

The problem for me is that I find it all so incredibly boring! I just don't care about the story or any the characters. It might be because I already know alot of the story, but it should be exciting to see how the show executes it and what they keep or change. But it just doesn't. It's almost like they try too hard to make me feel for the characters, but everything is happening so quickly and I don't feel invested in anything.

For me it's not the acting. I think it's more the pacing, the script and the editing. The pacing is all over the place and the episodes are too long. The script is cringey at times and I feel like they repeat things too much. We know Witchers are looked down on by humans. We know Yennerfer feels worthless. They don't have to repeat it again and again in the same episode.

I also feel like the costumes could have been a lot better. I'm sure they had a limited budget, but honestly it looks a little ridiculous. Everyone looks like they're in a play and should be on a stage. The costumes doesn't blend with the environment and takes my focus away from what is happening story wise. When you watch a movie or a tvshow, the costumes should feel authentic to the characters, and not stand out in a distracting way. Hopefully this will get better as we get more seasons, as this happens with alot of tvshows.

I don't love it, but I'll still give season 2 a shot. It definitely has alot of potential and maybe it's a show that needs to grow on me with time.

No need to watch this (SPOILERS)
20 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
If you are looking for a good thriller or scary movie, don't bother with this one! Not scary at all and very frustrating ending. The only good thing I could say is it really made me wanna now what the deal was! Because I had NO idea what was going on. Why is some guy terrorizing this family? For a while I thought it was the dad's ghost, that for some reason haunted them. But I had nothing to back that up with. And that's part of the problem, you don't get much backstory on the characters to actually build a theory, or feel for them. The second huge problem is that when the ending is near and you think you'll finally get all the answers, you get NOTHING. No explanation what so ever.

The only thing I could think of was that maybe they tried to go for something like The Strangers with people killing for no reason at all. But that movie was actually scary! At least I thought so. And well made. Or maybe they tried to go for something like The Invitation with a cult that kills people for fun. Maybe the Open House sign at the end of this movie was to signal crazy cult people that this house had people to kill. Or like in Hostel, the guy had paid for getting to kill them. But who the hell knows! They could at least give us some clues to why the hell this was happening to them. But no.. Anyway, the actors did an ok job with what they were given, but this is a mess.
