Edward Scissorhands (1990)
One of the best movies of all time but not for everyone.
I'd have to say right now... not everyone will enjoy this movie. Edward Scissorhands is about knowing you should fit in, you want to fit in, but no matter what, you can't. I'd have to say the people that don't like it just don't understand what the message of the story is and/or they can't identify with it. My parents actually had to persuade me to rent it because i was reluctant but...WOW. In the very beginning how the old Kim said that Edward was left "incomplete and all alone", my heart jolted. Edward Scissorhands was so wonderful! It was beautifully done with all the acting (johnny depp, Dianne Wiest, ANthony Michael Hall, Wynona Rider, etc), of course you can't forget Tim Burton and Danny Elfman! This movie isn't just a comedy or love story, it's so many things... one second it's hilarious the next heart-wrenching. Johnny Depp's Edward Scissorhands character just makes you want to say "Aaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" lol. After seeing it for the first time, after it ended i actually cried and instantly fell in love with it. I often just watch it once a day because it never gets old. I'd have to say that from watching this movie you'd never know it was made in 1990, it looks like it could have been made in 2003. Overall, i'd have to say Edward Scissorhands is a pure timeless classic.
Il fantasma dell'opera (1998)
I'm at a loss of words! (may contain sexual references, spoilers)
I had been intrigued by the phantom of the opera when i saw the 2004/05 Andrew Lloyd Webber's movie. When i saw this movie i was in complete and utter shock. The acting AND singing was quite awful (although I LOVED Julian sands in ROSE RED), the fake singing hadn't even been very good. Even the horror scenes seemed pathetic, they were just plain gory, no plot. The characters have NO development and are mainly confused me. I guess I understand that Erik had power over Christine but one moment, she hates him (for no apparent reason), the next, she's letting him hump her, and then she's crying because she doesn't want to leave him, like it's going to kill her! This movie fits better in the category as "porno" if i were to WANT to watch "porno" i would, i was hoping for a creative possibly scary movie and was severely disappointed! The fake Gore, the sick sex scenes, the horrible acting, horrible singing, and overall pathetic state of this movie cause me to suggest that anyone who's considering seeing it, you'll regret it unless you like a movie such as this. (it's one of those things that i'd just like to completely forget)
Finding Neverland (2004)
Imaginative and Lovely
Finding Neverland caught my eye because of the actor Johnny Depp and the actress Kate Winslet, my all time favorite actor and actress. I knew that Johnny's role would be a pretty strange one from his previous ones which also attracted me to the movie. I loved it! The sincerity and joyfulness of J.M. Barrie and the boys enchanted me. The ending i must say, was perfect, not too happy and joyous but not too forlorn. The whole story and it's portrayal were exquisitely done and i enjoyed ever minute of it. I suggest anyone that's a fan of Depp or Winslet or just loves a story of love and bring your child self out, that they see it, it's truly a wonderful experience.
