Can't deny originality in a sea of the same old
24 April 2023
Sure it's bizarre and goofy but that's part of the charm. People complain about how nothing is original these days but once they watch something truly original and one of a kind they hate it. It is so clever and the actors sold the parts so well. The set design and costume design was fantastic and the music was perfect. Tells a story of a broken family putting the pieces back together all while all the characters are action heros also. Loved the villain and she killed the role.

"But that doesn't make any sense!" "Exactly" Keep those lines in mind as you watch the movie cause it's telling you it doesn't matter it doesn't make sense. Gets a little cheese but most movies do anyway. Highly recommend.

Tenet (2020)
8/10
Like the movie or not, Tenet is a groundbreaking cinematic achievment
23 November 2022
The time reversal scenes, the fight scene, and the way Nolan was able to capture scenes that were almost completely reversed accept the character. These alone are truly amazing accomplishments but I also think the rest of the movie is better than some people give it credit for. It is a bit confusing but personally I like to think out movies and this is probably the most timey wimey movie i've ever watched. I really do think that some people don't understand it and are thinking of things too linear which are some of the super negative reviews.

The movie is clearly very well thought out and accomplishes establishing a lot of revolutionary film making techniques and ideas.

Really well done

Warning: Spoilers
A must watch for any Tolkien fan. Unfortunately this was review bombed before it was even released because people don't like diversity even when it doesn't matter at all. This is a fantastic telling of the fall of numenor and the rise of sauron in the second age. The practical effects are fantastic and mix we'll with the seldom times they have to use CGI and it is even an upgrade to peter Jackson's effects. The cinematography is stunning with more sweeping landscape shots of new Zealand. The actors play the parts well and the writing is true to the books. There are a few liberties taken like some elvish appearances and different races but those are easily looked over since they have no effect on the story or lore. Also I don't think the specific events were ever written by Tolkien but they did happen according to the books and all the people and places are part of the Tolkien universe. Really worth a watch especially if you liked Peter Jackson's movies.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War (2019–2023)

One of the best animes out there
30 March 2019
I watched the first episode when it was released because I thought it sounded original and interesting. I was blown away by the quality in just the first couple of episodes. Fantastic and funny writing, characters, voice actors and amazing animation and each episode just gets better and better. I binged the manga after the first couple of episodes and the source material is fantastic as well (and still ongoing so let's hope for at least 1 more season) but you can tell the creators of the anime really but their hearts into this one. Hilarious, beautiful, and enticing I whole heatedly recommend this show. 10/10

Erased (2016)

One of the greatest shows I've ever watched!
29 September 2018
Kept me interested since episode 1 and never stopped hitting me with emotions! The idea might not be the most original but damn did they do an amazing job with it. The raw emotions from all the characters were incredible. The animation was fantastic, writing was on point, suspense was killer and some of the most likable characters ever. Mom is best mom and who could ask for a better friend then Kenya and Satoru?

The killer was definitely predictable but they wrote the ending perfectly. Amazing anime with great symbolism and morals. Anybody can be a hero by just making friends with somebody who seems lonely. You never know how that can change somebody's life.

A must watch for anybody really. 10/10

A sweet simple show
28 September 2018
A sweet anime with nice art, good voice acting and an interesting premise. That being said I feel this show is a bit overrated. The story doesn't really go anywhere, the antagonist turns out to be somewhat boring, and the main character is going to die if she keeps using magic. Of course she keeps using magic and always gets gravely sick/injured but she always turns out ok so it doesn't matter and she keeps doing that in almost every episode. The emotions are somewhat shallow despite what some people have been saying. It almost feels like a children's show at times. The character development is there but it was hard to get invested for me. I had a hard time keeping myself engaged with the show and had to take a break a couple times from the 24 episodes to watch more entertaining animes with better writting and deeper emotions. In the end i couldn't wait for the last episode to end so I use my time to watch something better. A fairly boring anime with a boring ending.

It might sound like i didn't like the show but it really wasn't all bad. i just wanted to tell you the cons that are not included in the other reviews. If you have time and you're looking for something new and different to watch this wouldn't be a bad choice but I wouldn't say this is one of the best animes like some people are saying.

Annihilation (I) (2018)
8/10
One of the most original films I've seen in awhile
28 February 2018
Please don't take all these negative reviews to heart. I see most of them were expecting something that it was not meant to be. Annihilation was incredible. Destruction and creation. Horror and beauty. Evolution and mutation. Fear and love. Brutality and emotion. Duality. Whether you describe the scenes in this move to be awesome or awful you would be right either way. This movie will make you think and probably never come to complete understanding of what you saw but it is worth it. Amazing writing, directing, and camera work and some great acting by five fantastic actresses that portray broken but incredibly strong and intelligent women. By far the most original thing I've seen on screen in a long time. Not for the faint of heart or squeamish but I highly recommend. 9.5/10

Mute (II) (2018)

I was hyping this movie so much but was extremely let down
28 February 2018
When I first saw the screen shots and teasers I was so excited about this. Altered Carbon came out and while it was a great show i was still telling my friends "Just wait for Mute. It's going to blow this away." Never have a felt so wrong. From the get go the acting, writing and story is just plain bad. The only redeeming quality of this movie was the beautiful cinematography and this shouldn't be surprising since that is really what made people want to watch it in the first place. Had great potential but just fell short. Hoping for a great cyberpunk movie coming in the near future to make up for this mess.
