100 tula para kay Stella (2017)
One of the very few well-made films from Philippine Cinema!
100 Tula Para Kay Stella is one of the very few well-made films from the Philippines. Fueled with dynamic performances from all the cast, very well-written plot and screenplay, well-crafted cinematography and a writer-director who shows that he knows what he is doing through powerful writing and directing, the film is undeniably a success. It might have genre tropes and clichés, but it uses it cleverly and utilizing them to deliver emotions and key moments as powerful, yet as subtle, and as raw and real as it could. The well- done sound mixing and on-point soundtrack, alongside its wonderful cinematography helps in telling the story and the feeling that go with it with perfection. Each of the cast did well with their performances, especially JC Santos who plays the main protagonist of the film. Dilemma and social issues, as well as personal and emotional issues are tackled and dealt in the movie in unique, raw and unexpected ways. 100 Tula Para Kay Stella is refreshing, surprising and satisfying. Dare I say, 100 Tula Para Kay Stella is one of the all-time best movies from the Philippine Cinema.
La La Land (2016)
One of the best movies of the year! No doubt.
La La Land is simply one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The film's brilliant cinematography, honest-to-life script and screenplay, nostalgic and beautiful-executed cinematography and Chazelle's top notch directing brought the film to great heights with the aid of Stone and Gosling's undeniably Oscar-worthy acting and performances. The music and score of the movie is fresh and entertaining, some addicting, while maintaining a subtle vibe. La La Land is a well-executed movie and a fresh entry into the bygone genre, which are musicals. One of the best movies of the year, and dare I say, of the century.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
Excellent film adaptation of a beloved book by millions.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a well-executed adaptation of the 1999 novel of the same name with great performance from Lerman, Watson and Miller. With a crisp script and precise direction from Chbosky who also penned the novel, the film achieves a great storytelling standpoint supported with great acting and great movie craftsmanship. Overall, the movie is a great and excellent take of the novel it is based on.
