Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Pleasantly Surprised!
I was a bit apprehensive about the changes being a huge fan of the book and the 94 film..but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Part of me would love a move faithful adaptation, but the changes not only make for a more interesting experience, they offer surprises and the changes work well with this version.
This adaptation also doesn't sugarcoat Louis and Lestat's relationship..snd as relationships go its a surprisingly accurate depiction of a relationship..albeit between vampires.
Fanatic performances, captivating story, interesting characters and overall a very well done and thrilling adaptation. I hope to see more of the books adapted into this universe.
The Menu (2022)
If you're looking for meaning, you might be too pretentious for your own good.
I went into this film without any real expectations nor any idea of what it was about. It looked it was aiming for pretentious and artsy, but that was a very clear misdirect and to enjoy the film you have to let go of your preconceived notions and stop trying to find meaning. Much like the menu, meticulously curated and designed by Chef Slowik, its supposed to be crafted with love and enjoyed, but few will resist the urge to turn up their noses and find the flaws that they don't realize make the meal more interesting and tantalizing.
If you go in expecting a star Michelin experience, you're at the wrong restaurant, but a well made cheeseburger and S'mores? You're going to have a memorable and enjoyable meal.
South Park: The Streaming Wars Part 2 (2022)
A Surprising return to form!
After years of flanderization, with a few good gags, Part I was fun, but it felt like it was going a little too hard and setting itself up for failure..but it delivered! The jokes work, it's relevant, it's creative..but most of all it's actually fun to watch.
I'm hoping this is the beginning of a bright new Era.
Dead End: Paranormal Park (2022)
Cute, creative, fun...and demons!
It feels a bit slow at first, but it picks up quick
It features a fabulously diverse cast of characters, a very creative premise, fantastic voice cast, fun and imaginative stories, and some laugh out loud jokes.
I love it!
Teen Titans Go! (2013)
How is this still on?
I've never been a willing viewer. I usually end up being subjected to it when I have Cartoon Network on and it will always, eventually end up in a huge block of episodes.
It's just lowest of the low brow humor ...and even that has to be explained to the audience and dragged out. I feel like it's supposed to appeal to toddlers with it's sad attempt at quirkiness, but the references are clearly aimed at adults ..and ...yeah...it's just bad. I don't know who this show is for.
The Lion King (2019)
The worst movie I've ever sat through from beginning to end
I saw it in the theater. I had so much hope ..and three minutes in I was just disgusted with it. My bf hated me for it. He said I just sat there groaning and saying "Really?" The entire movie.
I also laughed during the scene where Mufasa died. That entire scene looked like it came from a 70s made for TV movie.
And then. That entire scene plays again in a flashback at the end...Scar is trying to kill Simba..and I'm trying to hold back laughter watching Simba cheesily yell "Noooooooooo" and i envied Mufasa ..he didn't have to endure the rest of that movie.
And I love Beyonce..but that song was slammed into that movie lube free and without consent.
Annie Live! (2021)
One glaringly horrible miscast
Titus Burgess should have been Miss Hannigan. No hate to Taraj..but Titus would've eaten that role alive!
The rest of the cast was surprisingly well suited for their roles...next to "The Wiz" one of the best live musical performances in recent years.
Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar (2021)
Went in not knowing what to expect, went out..still not knowing
I went in just loving Kristin Wiig...and she does not disappoint...at no point does the movie disappoint. It's wall to wall wackiness..inconsistent. But it works and they'll surprise you.
I had no idea what to expect..I'm not sure I know after watching it But jll watch it again anyway.
Fear Street: 1978 (2021)
The thing about trilogies..
What i like about this series is that it was written and shot as a trilogy. As the story progresses we learn what's going on along with the characters and the greater narrative slowly teveeals itself.
This one did flow and move better than the first , for one..anyone having seen the first film knows ..more or less .how this one will end ..but even with that there are still enough twists and turns to surprise you
The series also likes paying homage to classic for films which is fun but can be disapointing for fans of the original series to which very little refers to.. Sarah Fier and Shadyside are as far as they go and the series could've easily added more references or Easter eggs for fans.
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
Darker than the books
I was OBSESSED with these books in the 90s and this movie did NOT dissapoint. The movie draws elements from a few of the books and pays homage to the 90s Slashers like "Scream" (the opening scene especially)
The story is intriguing and I can't wait to see where the second chapter goes.
Cruella (2021)
A pleasant and Fabulous Surprise!
Any reviews that claims she kills puppies hasnt seen the movie. That's not a spoiler btw
It's one of the most unDisney Disney films. It's stylish and cool. It's pure fun! And an unexpected twis! I felt i would enjoy it on a more casual level, but i ended up adoring it! Devil Wears Prada meetsean Girls and still manages to be creative and different.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Expectations are the first step to dissapointment
If you're watching this hoping to find something deep, meaningful, and complex ...you're not going to have a good time. It's a zombie movie Mixed with a bank heist movie. It's dumb fun with gore, explosionss, a dude getting his face ripped off by a zombie tiger. It tries to be Oceans 11 and the Italian Job with a Zombieland/Dawn of the Dead twist but comes out being more of a Resident Evil "Let's Rob a Casino" and that works.
If you need it to be more or think it's below you..you probably need to find meaning in your life..instead of a zombie flick .. No judgement. But that seems to say more about you as a person.
Bloody, gorey, jump scares , and zombie tigers (oh my!)
