See Ya Later Gladiator (1968)
A sad end for classic characters
Daffy and Speedy cartoons are not good to begin with, but this is ever worse than normal. The plot is ridiculous, sound effects lame, and the characters, especially Daffy, look off model at times. It looks like they spend about $12 to make this.
Avoid at all costs.
Toon in with Me (2021)
Gorstein needs to go!
Bill and Toony the Tuna have potential, but you can tell the chemistry isn't there as of yet. The cartoons are a mixed bag, just like these kind of shows years ago- you get a mix of greats (Bugs Bunny) with some absolute duds (Popeye, Gene Deitch Tom and Jerry).
The worst character is Goldie Fisher, played by Leila Gorstein. She's not funny at all, actually she's annoying. Dump her ASAP and get Toony a better owner!
Press Your Luck (2019)
Could they have found a worse host?
Elizabeth Banks is horrific as host. She is either robotic, or yells in her shrill voice. Handing someone who has never hosted a job without even auditioning never works.
The bonus game at the end is unnecessary and actually makes Press Your Luck boring.
I'll stick to the real version with Peter Tomarken.
Play the Percentages (1980)
What format is it this week?
Play the Percentages ran in syndication from January-September 1980, hosted by Geoff Edwards. Originally, the format was solid, even if it was ripping off Family Feud. Two married couples guessed the percentages of correct answers people gave to questions. First to 300 points won $300 and a chance at a growing jackpot in the bonus game. Geoff interacted well with the couples, and it was a fun half hour.
The second week on the air, the jackpot moved to the front game, where you won the jackpot if you nailed a percentage on the nose. Still later, the jackpot was reduced to a $10,000 starting point instead of $25,000. The bonus game was still worth $2,500.
By March, the couples format was dropped and it essentially became a remake of Twenty One, minus the isolation booths. Gone were the couples, replaces by two contestants. It lost all the magic. The bonus round eventually changed to a standard Barry and Enright prize package instead of cash.
Watch the first two months, and skip the other seven.
Johnnytime (1996)
What a waste of time
I vaguely remember this. The series starred John Kassir. The opening was "Guess what time it is?" Then loudly, "It's Johnnytime!" The theme song was pretty much saying Johnnytime in many voices. I don't remember much else except the acting was terrible. I don't think it lasted a year.
Pandemonium (1982)
Some funny liners, but mostly bad
I've heard about this movie for many years, and finally got a chance to see it. A massive murdering of cheerleaders back in 1963 and 1969 eventually cause a cheerleading camp to close up. Fast forward to 1982, and Bambi, a former student, opens it back up with new recruits, among them Candy (Carol Kane), Glenn (Judge Reinhold), and Sandy (Debralee Scott). One by one, they are murdered by the killer, until only one remains. It is then when we find out who did it and why.
Also in the movie are Tom Smothers doing a terrible accent as a Canadian Mountie, and Paul Reubens doing his Pee-Wee Herman schtick. The plot overall isn't very well developed, and quite lame, but some funny scenes do occur, namely the House of Bad Pies and the strip poker scene. The ending seems like it's thrown together, which is a shame.
Overall, good for about ten or fifteen minutes total, the rest you can just fast forward through. Maybe catch it on TV, but it's not worth buying.
Incoming Freshmen (1979)
Bad, bad, bad movie
I don't know where to begin. The cast is full of people who've never done anything before or since. Debralee Scott is listed on cover boxes, but does not appear in the movie at all. The writing is quite bad, even for college films. It's obviously very low budget, with one scene at the sorority house having extremely choppy editing.
The characters are pretty typical for college films - timid guy, nerd, suave black guy, tough guys, guy with mustache, attractive girl, small town girl, etc. The featured teacher is about what's you'd expect... middle aged heavy set guy who gets sidetracked easily.
If you wan't to see a college flick, stay clear from this one. It's so bad, it's not even funny.
Electra Woman and Dyna Girl (1976)
One of the worst shows ever!
This show had low budget written all over it. Way too much overacting (especially with DynaGirl), along with the cheap sets, lame effects (even for the mid 1970s), and lame villains. I also couldn't stand the overuse of "Electra". I know catch phrases are important to a series like this, but come on! The ones I remember most are the spider woman and whoever made DynaGirl evil. These plots have been used in many superhero series. Come on Kroffts, can't you at least be semi-original? No wonder why this lasted only eight episodes. The theme song was kinda catchy, but the rest stunk. At least Deidre Hall had a career after this...
