Le roi de coeur (1966)
Trivia
This movie is partly responsible for the existence Seven Gables Cinemas in Seattle WA. During the 70s & 80s their theaters were to only place in Seattle to see Indi and European films.
In the early days, they would run the King of Hearts, either the French subtitle or the English dubbing, until they had enough money to play something with higher royalty fees.
Around the University of Washington the King of Hearts had a cult status that was unparalleled until "Rocky Horror" appeared.
Seven Gables was absorbed by Landmark in 1989.

L'homme qui plantait des arbres (1987)
Uplifting Story
If every you wanted proof that one normal person can make a positive difference in the world THIS IS IT. If I were a history teacher L'Homme qui plantait des arbres" or "The Man Who Planted Tree" would be the center of a chapter on the early 20th century.
Any animation festival that includes L'Homme qui plantait des arbres" is worth going to. The director has good taste.
The point here is the story. The animation is simple, mostly the camera moving across some beautiful paintings. The pace slow and gentle. It is a bit long for a "short" but when I saw it at the theater, by the end even the children in the audience weren't making a sound.
Pandora Machine (2004)
Surprisingly watchable low budget Sci-Fi
This is an independent release with a script that highlights how real creativity is often missing from summer blockbusters. First it tells a good story. But after it was over I found myself thinking about what it means to be sentient and morality in an immoral world.
Excellent acting, especially since I can't find any other credits for the actors. The sets and special effects work well enough that I seldom noticed the corners cut to save money.
A cop is trying to cope with his profit driven police force. He & his new partner are assigned to find an assassin who has evaded all high-tech security measures. Even the all-seeing surveillance cameras have no record of the killer's movements.
7 out of 10 and a sincere hope everyone involved makes more movies.
