Susan Sarandon Channels Hillary Clinton
17 November 2023
Pretty typical DC movie...good but not great. Some parts in Spanish that they dont repeat in English so you get the gist of what is going on but dont know the exact dialogue. The part that I loved is Susan Sarandon could not have played her character more like Hillary Clinton as a Super Villain if she tried. Now, she would totally disagree with this because they play on the same team but the hair, the way she dresses, her lines, the attitude, it's all perfect. Jamie Reyes is super cute but not too bright. Guess that may be true to the comics but I never read them so I dont know. Dont pay to watch but if you can watch for free (or on subscription) it's a fine way to kill a couple hours.

Much Better than People Say
5 February 2020
I loved the animated series and although the movie wasnt as good as the animated, it was still better than average. I think the reason this movie has been rated so low is because fans of the series and MAJOR fans of the series and since the movie was a bit different (and didnt have 8.75 HOURS to build the story the way the animated series did) so people RAGED on it. Was it Lord of the Rings? Hell no but did it suck completely? No, not at all. It was enjoyable and I am very disappointed that the other 2 movies will never be made.

Decent Movie but Overrated
19 January 2020
I watched this movie based on it's IMDb rating. After all, it scored only 1/10th of a point lower than "Lord of the Rings" (first one) so it must be a pretty damn AWESOME movie, right? Well....NO! It wasnt a BAD movie, it just wasnt....magical.

Now, I do love my Sci Fi and Fantasy movies, however movies based on real life can be magical as well. Think "Silence of the Lambs" or "Se7en". This movie has a decent concept based on the interactions of 2 classes of people. I would go so far as to say there is no clear "good guy" and no clear "bad guy." In life, there seldom is. That said, it was interesting and entertaining but no way it ranks a 8.6. I think results are being skewed by a foreign market that has (understandable) pride in making a film with international appeal.

Good series ruined by politics
10 October 2018
What I loved about the Purge series is how it focused on the darker side of humanity. No one was able to be viewed as a "good guy" because, given the right circumstances, we all harbor terrible passions that can be let out if allowed. In this movie, they show "how it all started" but in doing so, they couldnt help but pander to a certain group of people who want to make all white people evil and all black and poor people victims. Even the black gangsters who routinely kill and spread evil over the world end up being shown as "true heroes". Why does everything have to be "this group is good, this group is bad"? There are good and bad in ALL groups and that is what made Purge so awesome. I doubt I will watch any more of these films. Trust Hollywood elite to ruin a good thing because they cant keep their opinions to themselves.

over acted
19 March 2013
In my opinion the movie was great....except for the acting, which kinda drags everything else down. It's REALLY over acted. I have thought back on the original "Wizard of Oz" movie and realize that type of over acting was typical of that era, so maybe a conscious decision was made to act in this style, but in this day and age, I just think most people (at least myself) don't like it.

Visually the movie was stunning. The transition from black and white to color is a nice throw back to the original. The heavy use of CGI didn't seem overbearing or out of place.

The theater I go to only charges $6.50 for 3D movies. It's worth that but if I had paid $15 at the AMC I would have been disappointed.

PS: The flying monkeys are far scarier than the original!
