The Departed (2006)
terrible
How can anyone think this is a good movie? We know the ending from the beginning, and this can't be good for a movie that actually pretends to mix "suspense" with "action" and a touch of "comedy". Here's the story: Jack Nicholson is some mafia guy who pays for Matt Damon's education. Matt Damon becomes a cop who helps Nicholson continue to be the bad guy. Then there is Leonardo Dicaprio, who is an informant who works for the police trying to help them catch Jack Nicholson by pretending to be one of Nicholson's men. Now Nicholson wants to know who might be betraying him. The policemen want to know who is the bad cop helping out Nicholson. What is the ending of the movie: suspense, suspense, surprise! They find out. In the meantime, everyone gets killed, Damon and Decaprio have sex with the same woman, and Nicholson and the cops swear a lot.
Wow, how creative! How interesting! This movie is stupid, very stupid. This says a lot about those people who picked it as Best Movie at the Oscars.
Both (2005)
If only...
This movie is simply bad, what else could I say? There are lots of worse movies though. That's why I give it a 3 instead of a 1. The only interesting thing about this movie is the topic, a woman who realizes she was a hermaphrodite baby when she was born. There could have been an interesting plot, potentially, but unfortunately, it is not the case.
Imagine that your grandfather, a technician, was asked to write a script about this topic. "Both" is what you would get. Obvious conversations, obvious stereotypes (the protagonist is a "latina"), obvious everything, obvious ending.
The masturbation scene is particularly "interesting" (not really), for all those men who wonder how women masturbate, this is such a terrible example! It made women laugh out loud.
Crash (2004)
Disguised Hollywood Crap
This movie is entertaining, if you want to relax on a Sunday afternoon and stop thinking about work and important stuff, watching this film would be a good option.
However, it is a bad film, if you are looking for something truly interesting that you will remember in 10 years from now, don't even consider watching it.
The acting is terrible, the plot is almost a joke, this film is an insult to the intellect because of the way the public is fooled into believing that "this film is different" but it actually isn't.
What an overrated film. So many people liked it so much, I wonder what that says about our global society.
La ley del deseo (1987)
Sophisticated, sensual and subtle
This is my second favourite Almodovar film, after "Hable con Ella". It reveals the depth of the characters' feelings with such subtlety and delicacy that as viewers we find ourselves unable to judge the characters' actions. We are puzzled by the intensity of their desire, love and misery in the same way that we are puzzled by Benigno's deep loneliness and longing for love in "Hable con Ella". In "La ley del Deseo," murder and suicide become extreme natural consequences of the characters' love and suffering. We cannot condemn the murder any more than we can condemn the rape in "Hable con Ella".
