The Big Bang Theory (2007–2019)

Funny at first...now not so great
2 April 2014
I'm giving this 8 out of 10 purely because of the first few seasons. Because I'm a UK fan, we get the new episodes ages after they come out in the US, so rather than keeping up with it week by week, I tend to watch some of the ENDLESS re-runs on E4. I won't lie, it does work, it's still quite entertaining to watch after many viewings - I've seen the episode where Sheldon's WoW account is hacked millions of times.

But I can tell when an episode is relatively new. And I don't like the new ones. In the opening seasons, I felt the stories were so much more focused around the 4 geeks, which was funny. Penny is a good character too, and she contrasts well with Sheldon especially. There was a point when I absolutely adored this show.

But then what happened? They all went and got girlfriends. We could all see Leonard and Penny's eventual romance from a mile off, and I don't have a problem with that. I loved the first time Leonard asked Penny out, and I think their relationship works in the show.

However, then we had Howard and Sheldon get their girls. Howard married Bernadette and Sheldon is now boyfriend of Amy Farrah Fowler. My problem with this is that these new characters have now taken a lot of the light off the friendship of the 4 men and focused more on the women. I was watching one the other day, where there was a separate plot line for the women. This wouldn't be bad at all, if more than a third of the female characters were actually funny. I originally liked Bernadette, but not anymore. I never liked Amy Farrah Fowler, she is mostly used as a vessel for just very crude jokes, and she comes across really as a female Sheldon, but not as funny of course.

But the very worst part is it seems to have changed the male characters - in particular Sheldon. He just seems to have mellowed a bit and I far preferred his character in the earlier seasons.

But, contrary to what it may seem, I DO LIKE this show. It is nice, easy viewing and some of it is still funny. I realise the writers do have to develop the character's lives a bit in order to keep things fresh, but I just preferred the earlier seasons.

A fantastic programme

Some hate it. Lots more love it. The truth is, is that you don't have to be a petrol head to love this show. I myself couldn't care less about cars, but I tune in to every new episode. The presenters make the show what it is - Clarkson is extremely opinionated, not everybody's cup of tea but he is extremely funny at times and I enjoy watching him. May and Hammond both contrast nicely - the laddish banter makes the show extremely watchable. While the main series are very good - the segments beautifully filmed and composed - I really would encourage watching the specials as well. Overall, a thoroughly entertaining, funny and engaging show.

You won't be able to stop watching

The best TV show I have seen. I'm one of the people that didn't even know about it until it had nearly ended, and I managed to watch all 5 seasons in just over a month. I had to wait a while for the last few episodes, as they hadn't been broadcast, and the wait was unbearable.

What at first seems like an odd plot, and certainly not one you could stretch over 5 seasons, instantly becomes an utterly fantastic TV show. It is brilliantly acted, particularly by the two main actors, Cranston and Paul. The story lines are so engrossing you won't be able to stop watching - your nights will just be a blur of constant episodes.

It's also one of those brilliant shows that doesn't fluctuate or get worse with the introduction of new seasons. In my opinion, the last season was the best, and the fourth the second. Fantastic characters, fantastic villains, fantastic plots. So many moments are almost too tense to watch.

I would recommend this show to anybody, I've told several of my friends to watch it and not a single one has not said they loved it.

All in all, absolutely brilliant.

A very funny show

For me, this is truly a very good show. I know some people get annoyed at the regular cutaways, myself included (some of them being simply unfunny, or sometimes its just the fact I don't have the contextual knowledge to understand the joke, I'm 15) , but in reality , most of them are very good. It is well animated and nice to watch, but the thing I love most about it is the diversity of the episodes. The Brian and Stewie episodes are absolutely excellent, for example the "Road to" episodes and other time travel episodes, not to mention other episodes like "Three Kings". These episodes are such fun to watch, especially when you're my age. The risky humour and ridiculous gags make me laugh out loud at times, something I don't usually do at the TV. Since I began watching a few years ago, I've bought 8 seasons, and just watch them whenever I'm not feeling so good. Seriously a great show, even if sometimes the cutaways are infuriating.
