these guys came from outer space!!
19 November 2005
A really good documentary on a really crazy group of people living like there is no tomorrow in the most cruelly beautiful city! This film is about what was going on in the heart of our modern world, New York, in the late 70s and the early 80s.Those who have survived the experience of those years (director Edo Bertoglio included) tell their story and make up the puzzle of what NY was at that time. All those hip, sexy, cool and always-stoned guys of something about 25 years ago are now middle aged people without drugs in their body anymore but with a memory filled with most of what made up NY myth.Factory ,Andy Warhol and all those underground artists and performers are all there.Definitely a very good documentary but one of the most cooooool films I have ever seen

A true cult classic
15 September 2005
Wow! is the only thing I can say about it.There is some kind of plot in the film but surely not in the conventional way.Things just happen, often out of blue and you find yourself just standing and looking unable to really get a grip on what's happening or how could anyone think of something like that to put in his movie.Hilarious satire of political and social life in Greece of the early 80s (some things have not changed drastically even now). Grotesque and surrealistic images and great music (stick to the lyrics) from Tzimis Panousis and the Music Brigades.A true cult classic for anyone who has an idea of Greek everyday reality!

A bit boring apart from one or two scenes with Sophia Loren
8 September 2005
I am a big fan of Peter Sellers and this is one of the two reasons I saw this movie. The other one was to get some of this 60s wonderful feeling. Unfortunately both my expectations drowned during movie's running time. Seller's seemed simply not to fit in the role (at least not as much as he has spoiled us to expect from him), and nothing was there from this 60s feeling (apart from some truly kitsch, and for this adorable, nostalgic retro-future building interiors). All in all this was neither a good nor a bad movie, just a boring one.I am sure everyone expected something more than a dull and a bit childish comment on common social problems.

In the mind of the Painter
24 November 2004
El sol de membrillo is a documentary that looks like a movie,a documentary shot like a movie.El sol de membrillo tells the story of a painting that was never finished, tells the story of what is going on in this painter's mind, tells the story of what is going on in every painter's,every artist's in general head, who is obsessed with Beauty and accuracy. It's a relaxing (in a good way) film that in spite of its rather long running time (almost two and a half hours)is not at least boring. That calmness derives from the director himself who looks like a never-angry ever-happy (not in the silly way) man who has a concrete philosophy on life and much thought in his background. That's all I can tell about this man who made an introduction to and a presentation of this work of his before the screening begun.Do not skip this movie, it can change the way you see things.

Los Muertos (2004)

Difficult film, strange cinema from Argentina.
22 November 2004
The film start.Place : somewhere in South America. The strange odyssey of a mysterious man of some age begins here.He sets off for a journey. Few characters on his way, almost no talking. The unwelcoming natural environment always present. Some really spectacular scenery.

The movie goes on in the same slow pace from the beginning to the end. Two or three scenes are a bit loose and for me boring but otherwise the speed it's OK.It helps to create atmosphere and makes it look like a ritual. And ritual I think is the keyword for this strange and "unfriendly" film. Then comes the unexpected end to leave all questions unanswered. It's a real creepy movie that crawls underneath your skin whether you want it or not.If you are in for odd films do not miss this one.

How can a drama make up (?) all the way to be a chilling thriller.
13 November 2004
This is all about it!A spectacular drama so disturbing to become an "existence thriller".A deep and thorough look into the soul and the brain of a creative (in his very own way indeed) man.Psychosis breaks in, out of nowhere, to this man's mind and cripples his emotions, his thought and finally his life. The order mentioned before is exactly the event line of the film.Dark sides of our mind are brutally exposed and true inspiration appears to be not further than a step or two from madness.Excellent music that can both stand alone and brilliantly combine with the work, is what makes the film a true classic.A must see for everyone with a sense in real art.

Santa Sangre (1989)

A walk through Santa Sangre.
17 September 2004
This is truly a shocking film crammed with bizarre and grotesque violence both explicit and lurking beyond the 'five-senses perception'.A sick masterpiece by a sick genius.Santa Sangre evolves into the strange universe of its creator ,Alejandro Jodorowsky. This is not at least surprising because most of his works:films (El Topo etc.),comics (The cast of the Metabarons,Inkal etc.)etc etc,are pieces of the very same puzzle,Alejandro's universe.

Santa Sangre (Holy Blood) is a pure surrealistic work.Symbols, insanity, Life and Death mix up the wild beauty of Ancient Greek Tragedy. In conclusion: this is not a film for everyone, but if you are open minded you will be able to make a step further, beyond the image itself and face the deep brutal truth of this movie. This is how it would look like a movie shot by Salvator Dali himself.
