Never left me in the SoD zone
21 May 2023
Bad acting or directing? Maybe too small a sound stage with too much green screen? Everybody always seemed to be standing so close to each other. I dunno, it felt low-budget, and maybe even lazy because they didn't seem to be trying to being anything new to the table. Just resting on their laurels to bring in the views.

Anyway, I didn't feel the nostalgia for the first movie like I think I was supposed to, I used the fast-forward button a lot - which I never do the first time I watch a film - and I just couldn't find myself "in it" like I did in most of the others.

It's too bad, too, because I would really have liked to feel that nostalgia and I *really* wanted to suspend my disbelief.

This is a rare review from me. I'm actually sorry that I felt I needed to write it.

Why does everything have to be "relevant to the times"
9 June 2022
I suppose if you've never read the original novel the story will still be good somehow, but if you're looking to live the story you've been reading off and on since the Eighties, don't watch this. Watch the original miniseries.

The changes made with the idea of making it 'relevant' will force you out of SoD so many times it'll make you dizzy. Everywhere you turn it's a different story because it's an interpretation of the story by the Teller.

What does King say? "It's the tale, not he who tells it."? This is a different tale.

Animation was great but the story was changed.

Warning: Spoilers
The whole idea in the novel was about a bunch of male rabbits that leave their overcrowded, heavily regimented warren on the word of a weak, psychic rabbit and his smarter, more social older brother. The rest of the story is about finding and fighting for females so their warren will remain viable.

In the movie a doe is already part of the group. It threw me out of the "sense of disbelief" I felt while reading the story (multiple times over the last decades).

If you're looking for a really impressive new animated story about rabbits on the run loosely based on a story, this is great...if you're looking for a visual interpretation of the novel, this misses the mark.

It's too bad they were supposed to be consummate professionals..
11 August 2019
I think this could have worked if the premise was different...maybe if the crew selection was "accidental" in the sense that it wasn't crewed by professional spacefarers...maybe if it was a group of grad students (or something) who were on a research mission and had to be pressed into service due to time constraints and other circumstances. It would explain a lot - like taking the time to look hot, the disregard for good sense, and all the other things that jolt you out of the suspension of disbelief.

Too bad.

Silly, crazy, without a doubt improbable...

...but I loved it!!

If you're looking for a super hero movie, this has got all the bits...if you're looking for an emotional factor, it's in there...if you're looking for the proverbial guy movie that he can watch with the family, one they'll enjoy too, yep. All there.

I loved it the way I love Galaxy Quest. This is far more sophisticated, but I was able to get into the (suspension of disbelief) zone easily, and with a smile.

Some of my favourite second-line actors, all surrounding Micheal Douglas. Terrific.

Watch it. It's fun.

I'd have preferred a plain "best of" instead.

I've been watching Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies bunch for as long as I can remember. I grew up in the 60's before so many of the cartoons were gutted due to concerns about violence, and before they were edited for time.

This vid, and the others in the series, makes use of all the old cartoons and splices them together in an effort to create some kind of common time line, and I supposed if you hadn't seen the originals it would be pretty slick, but for me it doesn't work very well. Hiccupy, if that's even remotely a word, is how I would describe it. Little modifications, some substantial cuts, and the overlying *effort* needed to fall into the new storyline takes away a lot of the magic for me.

But the cartoons are good, solid classics. Watch it for those.
