Dear Edward (2023)
2/10
Flat
21 February 2023
I know the writers are trying and have good intentions but it ends up flat and monotone. It doesn't really lift off. Moreover, Edward's character is boring. He always has the same facial expression and attitude. There's nothing that sucks you in. Grief is an important subject. But, this show doesn't quite hit the target. There's isn't anything memorable about this series. It's a rather boring symphony. There's much better streaming content out there and I wouldn't waste my time on this. Pass this and after you have done so you won't have missed anything in your life. Flat, uninteresting, and unoriginal.

Chaotic
4 February 2023
I understand the message. Nice message hence two stars but the film is absurdly chaotic and more like a colorful circus performance than a superb film. I do not understand how this film can receive so many Oscar nominations! I am a movie buff and also studied film theory at University. This movie is a tornado of incoherence and you cannot wait until the tornado moves through so you can collect your thoughts after the storm. Reminds me of Symphony Fantastique by Berlioz, which was allegedly composed under the influence of drugs. However, Symphony Fantastique is actually an fascinating piece of Program music.

Too Weird
16 November 2022
Strange long dreamy encounters. Way too strange. Like attempting to be artistic without truly nailing it. I was deeply disappointed in this movie. What a let down. Boring long monologues. Bad writing indeed. I suggest the show "Vikings". Much better. Pass this film. It's a cluster and not entertaining at all. I'm half Swedish and lived in Sweden too so I'm familiar with some of my Viking heritage. This movie is a long bad trip. Don't watch it. What's up with that tree scene that is constantly shown throughout. I get the family tree association but it's way overkill in this movie. No thanks! Next!

Curious but nosedived in first episode
2 August 2022
Looked good in trailer. Tried it out and couldn't even complete the first episode. So dumb. These annoying sudden flashback scenes constantly. Way too much. Pass. Next.

No!

My God this is boring! No value whatsoever! Netflix has this trash content up on the site? No! Get it down! Please!

Not watchable. Just boring talks between people. Incredibly weak production.

Acquired Taste

I understand the messages and the character development, etc. However, I cannot get over the notion that this creation is somewhat "weird". The strange factor is high and never goes away.

Typical
20 November 2021
Season 1 started strong. It was interesting. It felt fresh. Intriguing. Season 2 developed into a typical drama between various characters instead of really focusing on what's going on in the world. Typical. It turned from good to mediocre. Doesn't need to be watched.

Why?
6 April 2021
Why would not anybody call the FBI for example? This would have been all over social media and the press would have built a camp in town. Completely unbelievable.

Unwatchable
29 April 2020
A movie can reach a point where it becomes so disgusting, gory, strange, and unpleasant that it has reached a point of being unwatchable. This movie reached that point.

Extremely low budget. Ok, that happens. But, horrible acting on top of that! That's enough. Unwatchable. Next.

Finally A Good German Production
14 July 2019
I believe that many of the reviewers on this platform don't get it because they aren't German speakers. I'm German and a native speaker and this is adrenaline pure. Maybe I can relate to this more because I speak the language and I actually lived in Berlin recently. The writing and the acting do not suck! My heartbeat could not slow down during the movie. This doesn't happen often in movies and this film got it right. It's not merely about the kidnapping but rather also about the human psyche what a tensed situation like this can do to you, to us, i.e. finding an unethical way to get quick money mixed with human ethics, fear, confusion, and the scary reality to commit a crime with all the ramifications that can come with it. I saw some Stockholm Syndrome in the film as well. I completely disagree with the reviews. I think Netflix did well on this. Netflix USA is not only about U.S. movies but also about the artistic visions from film artists around the world and Netflix realized that this was a German artistic vision good enough to be promoted on the Netflix platform. I applaud Netflix for that. It's a film worth watching and the acting felt completely authentic. Good job!
