9-1-1: Red Flag (2022)
Ugh
Does anyone miss when this show used to be good?
Remember the days of decent storylines and big emergencies? Since season 4, this show has felt like it's sliding down a landslide and the quality just gets worse.
For a mid-season finale, those of us that were barely hanging on, probably won't be back. Boring stories, boring characters, boring emergency. I keep giving it another chance, but don't think it will get any better.
Don't even get me started on how awful the donor storyline is. What is the point? Buck is almost unrecognizable in his immaturity. This story won't end well, there were plenty out opportunities given and they didn't take them.
Since season 4 it's like there's a dartboard in the writers room and they throw darts to see where they land.
The reviews and ratings are declining and yet, every week the show just gets more soap opera like and less entertaining.
9-1-1: Let the Games Begin (2022)
The core group!
Listen... this show really thrives when it's the core group. This feels like the 911 of old which is extremely refreshing compared to the last two seasons. The focus on the mains and even when they weren't all together the vibes couldn't be beat.
The emergency kept me entertained, which has also been pretty rare.
It's clear how much Buck has grown, but I'm excited to see that they are hopefully focusing on his growth without a girlfriend. Chris always makes an ep for me and I always enjoy seeing him interact with Buck and Eddie.
I almost gave up on this show after the last two seasons and wasn't planning on watching this ep, but I'm glad I did. I hope they keep it up.
9-1-1: Outside Looking In (2022)
Where's my show?
The way the show runners and writers have managed to ruin everything I loved about this show in one season.
I have several issues. One... why spend so much time focused on Taylor during the first half of the season to torpedo Buck's entire years worth of character development in one episode? There are so many ways they could have showed Buck struggling.
Second... I do not care about new characters. The cast is over inflated and the new "Buck" doesn't bring anything to the table. It was sloppy and an eh introduction, that has been extremely hyped. She was brought in to simply make Buck a cheater. What is the entire point of this plot? Did they run out of ways to actually further his growth? Unsure of what to do with women characters? Cheating is an old and tired plot point and the show runners spent interview after interview this week patting themselves on the back for it. I've never liked Taylor, but I had high hopes that Buck would be the one to end it, simply because he was growing and understanding it's not what he wanted. But, now I cannot wait for Taylor to end it.
I love Eddie and Chris and Eddie were the only things I enjoyed about this entire episode. Eddie and Chris finally have a conversation that was long overdo and Gavin and Ryan play so well off each other. I can't say enough about how much I loved their entire scene. I have no doubt that Ryan will kill this arc, hopefully his material will continue to shine. Cause the rest of the episode was a mess.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: People vs. Richard Wheatley (2021)
Really solid episode!
The previous reviews are interesting, because to me this show just gets better and better, especially this season.
Barbra did was Barbra does best, get under peoples skin and Liv's response to that was 100% true to character.
The only thing I don't get is how Richard Wheatley manages to get away with everything, he's so slimy.
I can't believe after so many years we're getting a true Liv and Stabler story. Obsessed with this.
9-1-1: Wrapped in Red (2021)
This season is just not getting better...
Oh this episode. The only reason I rated it as high as I did is because of Eddie and Christopher.
This whole season has been a mess of inconsistencies, a weird mix of storylines and overall sloppy set up.
There's nothing engaging happening here. When have guest actors have more screen time than mains, where was Chimney? Did the writers decide they just don't know what to do with him without Maddie?
The lack of chemistry highlighted even further in this episode with Buck and Taylor? I'm not sure if we're still supposed to take this relationship seriously after this episode or not. Their scene was shot (as most seem to be) like a Disney prince and princess (and not even a good one), the music is always strange and the general uncomfortableness is really something. The episode would have probably been better without the gift debacle and Taylor Kelly in general.
911 always did really well at balancing emergencies and storylines outside of those, but this season has been very topsy turvy. This episode featured less main cast and more emergencies, which seems to be kind of the theme. Or less mains and more guest actors.
Highlighting Christopher struggle is great! I love Gavin! He's phenomenal, but seeing Chris more this season might have made this emotional buildup even more powerful. I would say I'm excited for more Eddie stuff the next half of the season but, the way the first half went. It's hard to care that much.
Where was Karen? A Christmas episode and no Karen? Where were the family vibes? The last few minutes were used pointlessly and then Eddie's bombshell, which also seemed to come out of nowhere because the majority of the season was spent acting like Eddie's trauma never happened.
I don't know if it's the new co show runner making all the decisions, but this episode didn't do anything to make me excited to come back.
9-1-1: Ghost Stories (2021)
Yikesss
What was this episode exactly? The reshoots served no purpose in making it more well rounded clearly. A storyline in the promos wasn't even featured in the episode. While I love Karen so much (seriously, utilize her more), I'm so confused as to why the Eva storyline was tossed in there randomly and over in minutes.
I loved getting to see Chimney, and Harry dealing with his trauma outside of Athena and Michael's reaction to his trauma. But, the rest was just a mess.
Is this 911 or the Taylor Kelly show? Why do I care about the reporter aspect or her weird back and fourth with the Lou? I don't. I also don't care for the set up of her backstory. She's an average character with growth that we're supposed to believe but haven't actually been shown and now it's too little too late. I do not care.
Also, a simple Eddie mention, sneak peek, anything really might have done this episode well. But, alas, it was 50% Taylor Kelly and not much else.
Hard swing and a miss.
9-1-1: Brawl in Cell Block 9-1-1 (2021)
Best episode of the season
This one ticked off all the boxes for me.
The Buck and Eddie storyline was really great. Worried Buck is a weakness.
The way Mitchell's storyline twined with Eddie and Eddie's understanding of why it happened the way it did. (Also sass master Eddie is perfection, I love him omg). This has been one of the best Eddie seasons thus far, nice to see the writers finally using Ryan the way they should. His subtle change from in control and collected while Buck was there to sassy and annoyed when Buck was gone, was really noticeable and I loved the way the writers showed that change. Eddie's trauma will come to a head soon, I'm excited to see what Ryan and the writers actually interested in exploring Eddie's trauma do with it.
There was a threaded storyline this week about parents and family and I don't think I misread the way that the guardianship was threaded subtly through the story this week. Also, the last Eddie and Chris scene had me crying. Ryan is SO GOOD.
Doctor Wilson! Doctor Wilson!! I loved Hen getting to showcase her talent and gentleness and skills. I can't wait for a Hen focused story next week.
The Bobby and Ravi scene was a nice throwback to Buck and Bobby's scene back at the beginning. I love how much Bobby dad's his entire team. He loves them all.
This week was much better than last week and it really shows that 911 thrives when there's a central plot that all the cast kinda revolves around. Last week was a mess of pacing and writing and plot and they really stepped up their game this week. The episode switch makes more sense now, I feel like this week was a set up for the rest of 5A.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: The Five Hundredth Episode (2021)
Hard to watch, but really solid
Finally dealing with Liv's trauma after all these years. Her realizing that while she advocates for victims, she's never advocated for 16 year old Olivia, was so hard to watch. But, I'm really glad that it was finally addressed after all these years and SVU really surprised me with this. I was not expecting it.
Missed Nick and I really loved seeing him on my screen again. Loved the throw back to the actors Cold Case days.
Really great episode in a great season. It's weird to say that a show that's had 500 episodes has had some of its best this season, but that's where they are!
9-1-1: Desperate Measures (2021)
Eh
The first two episodes of the season were so solid! Especially, after the entire 4th season was just not that great. This episode was kinda sloppy, full of inconsistencies and the whole reason for the kidnapping, was just. So. Dumb.
The only good thing about this episode and why I rated it a 5, is the Ana Eddie break-up which was a long time coming and wonderfully acted by Ryan.
Law & Order: Organized Crime: Everybody Takes a Beating Sometime (2021)
Best episode yet
I've loved OC so far, but this was the strongest and most suspenseful episode to date.
I'm also loving how both OC and SVU are really showcasing the bond and relationship between Benson and Stabler. That last scene? *chefs kiss*
Skam France (2018)
Heartbreakingly honest
I started with SkamOG, way back when. My heart has always belonged to SkamOG. But, comparing Skam France to SkamOG is apples and oranges. Skam France is painful in a brutally honest way. Axel is absolutely amazing as Lucas (SkamOG's Isak), every week you feel his every emotion. From happy, confused, sad, to horrificly broken. Do yourself a favor and forget all of your preconceived notions from any other SkamOG remakes you've watched. The Skam France team is doing their own thing and frankly, I'm so excited about it. Lucas is very relatable in his anger and closed offness. Watching him grow and learn is so amazing.
