Do NOT insult your intelligence
10 January 2013
This film is such a travesty that I hesitate to honor it by calling it a film. An eighth grader from the slow learners class could have written the script and the acting is so bad that it could almost be mistaken for a spoof of a Science Fiction movie. It is so disjointed in the plot line that Ed Wood would have been ashamed of it. This is not Science Fiction, it is Science Stupidity. There are so many components that are impossible...literally impossible....like a huge military transport plane becoming air borne within 100 feet of it take off position. The science of the DNA specimens is totally bizarre, such as moths being necessary for pollination, but mid movie it becomes bees instead of moths. I hold EVERY SINGLE "actor and actress" in the movie in contempt. They are all wooden and over act every line they deliver! The experience of sitting through their hammy performances was almost enough for me to quit the movie before the end. Science Fiction is my favorite genre, but any more movies like this one and I will give up on Sci Fi, speaking of which this was so clichéd and poorly done that I thought it was a SyFy original!!!

Family Affair
20 December 2012
This was by any measure a bad film. I cannot defend the poor writing, the poor acting and horrible casting, they are indefensible. This was basically a family project financed, produced, directed, written and acted by a husband and wife team...and it shows. The other reviews are so unkind that they deserve mention. The lead actress is a plain woman who is as they say politely "full figured" and is the star because she is the Exectutive Producer and Produce, therefore she paid for the movies and ergo she is the star. To refer to her as fat and ugly is cruel and unkind. I do think that she could have been prepped better, but I would also note that some TV stars are less attractive and larger that she is, but are fawned over by the press. Also the religious sub theme of this film is attacked in almost every review, had the theme been the coming of Satan it would have been received more favorably. Let's just say this is a BAD Sci Fi film and leave it at that.

amateur

From beginning to end this movies is an amateur production. The acting is terrible with the lead female actress delivering a buffoonish performance with no spectrum of emotion or depth. Details are laughable - for instance the female lead picks a heavy padlock with a hairpin in 10 seconds. Locations seem to be the homes of cast members with cheap banners and signs identifying them as vital sites in the story. The plot itself might have served to make a fairly good horror story but the production is a disaster. The special effects are not all that special which detracts from the believability of the movie. I enjoy a campy bad film and even a generally bad film that has some good points in the plot or cast, but this film has neither. All in all the only thing I can say about Rift is that it is genuinely a BAD FILM!

god awful

What a bomb. I realize that film makers are trying to represent average people in films, the entire world is not made up of young attractive men and women, but in this film the sad sack actors are wooden, unattractive and unappealing. I like schlocky sci fi movies, but this one was not charmingly bad, it was just plain bad. Even the teenage son was grating and although it may not have been intended comes across as autistic or mentally challenged, perhaps the actor was simply not very talented. The storyline was a very poor rip off of the "Day after Tomorrow" and the special effects were unusually bad with the explosion of the small aircraft being one of the most amateur CGI effects I have ever seen. All in all this is a movie well worth avoiding at all costs so as not to waste 90 minutes of your life!

Ghastly!!!!
13 April 2012
Some of the reviews of this movie are multiple paragraphs long, I can't see why. It is quite simple to just say that this is one of the worst movies EVER made! I resent that I wasted 2 hours and 16 minutes of my life watching this trash. The video game like special effects are laughable, at several points they actually made me laugh out loud! But the dreg de la dreg of it all boils down to the horrendous acting which far exceeds the wretchedness of the special effects.

I have seen very very bad science fiction films presented at the Roswell UFO Festival which has special effects worst then these, BUT these films held the audience's interest because of good acting and a plot line with continuity and grace - this "film" has neither! GHASTLY is the best word to describe this rot!
