Geostorm (2017)
It's better if you're high
I started this move after taking 5mg. It's pretty good, but there's poor character development and lousy science. But do we watch movies for their plausibility? No. We watch them to suspend disbelief and be entertained. This a good disaster movie with plenty of spectacular technology that will undoubtedly exist in the near future (then again, we were supposed to be in flying cars for years now). Just quit thinking so hard and watch the movie for what it is. I give the writers credit for being original. I mean, they could've just made yet another Spider-Man movie. Hollywood is out of ideas, so by that measure, this movie stacks up.
Warning (2021)
Be sure you're stoned
I would probably give this movie a lower rating, but I'm baked and it's kind of cool. It's creative, bit a little slow. Definitely a new take on cautionary tales. Good camera play and the stories are interesting. The good part is that it's a near enough future so we can easily relate to what our potential trajectory is on. The bad part is that it's just enough euro-corny to make it just another dystopian future movie. Relying too much on technology robs us of what it means to be human, etc. But all in all, it's a fairly fresh and creative take on the usual "let this be a lesson to you" sort of sleeper movie that I generally enjoy.
Black Files Declassified: To Catch an Alien (2020)
I was on Nimitz in 2004
Cdr Fravor was my skipper in VFA-41. He's not a weirdo. If he said he saw something, he did. When I watch these shows, I often wonder about the people they have on as experts or witnesses. I love watching shows that make me think and sometimes stretch credibility. But are they who they are portrayed? Well, I tell you, Cdr Fravor is who he is. I'm proud to say I knew him and he wouldn't even consider being involved in any sort of hoax. He is a pro and wouldn't risk his reputation by participating in anything ridiculous.
I honestly had pretty much forgotten about this incident, then a few years ago, I saw the Skipper speaking about it. Something happened out there. What it was, who knows...
Timecop (1994)
Excellent except for the giant Maglites
I love watching this movie. And don't bother twisting your brain around the theories surrounding time travel. The best parts for me are the questionable fashion choices made by the bad guy thugs. I'm sure those actors now get red-faced when they see it. And the mounting of those gigantic Maglites on the pistols? It was a ridiculous idea then and it's just plain comical now. Great story and great ass-kicking scenes. Van Damme is a decent actor as long as you don't expect too much. It's a creative idea for a premise and a fun ride. The only thing better would be to have had at least a cameo by Leonard Nimoy. If they had written him in, this thing would be a solid cult classic.
