The Shaukeens (2014)

Excellent Remake!
7 November 2014
Usually Bollywood does not make good remakes of old classic movies. This one is a rare exception. This is a remake of the 1982 movie Shaukeen. That one was based in Bombay and Goa while this one is based in Delhi and Mauritius. The story is about three older men who lust after younger women and how it takes them to 'greener pastures'. The strong point of this movie is superb dialogues. The casting was perfect too. You have to watch the movie to appreciate that. Out of the older three men, I feel it was Annu Kapoor who has stolen the show! He is just too good as KD, a typical Delhiite. The rest of the cast has also done justice to their roles. Without revealing the actual story, I strongly suggest that you go watch this movie in a theater to get the full enjoyment. If you want a good laugh and a fun time, go for it. Its an excellent remake!

Happy New Year (I) (2014)

Crappy New Year
1 November 2014
Why is there no number lower than 1 allowed for voting? This is one of the most awful movies out there in recent times. There is no story and no content in the movie. There was no hard work done to write some original dialogues. Everything was just recycled from old movies. The only saving grace of this movie was Deepika Padukone. She looked like a million dollars and performed as good as any of her other movies. No wonder she is the queen of the 100 Crore+ movies. Boman Irani was ho hum as an older single Parsi. Sonu Sood was sadly wasted. Naseer's son (cant even remember his name) made a mistake by signing this movie. He will never be taken seriously now. What to say of Abhishek. He has once again proved that he is a failed hero who cant act apart from his two and a half expressions that he has learnt by copying his superstar father. My advice to him would be, if you really want to continue as an actor even after your father is no more, then please take a break and learn your art by joining a theater for a few years and then come back. Till then please spare us. Lastly, SRK. Absolutely boring. Trying to compete with Salman by showing off his fake photo-shopped abs. Really? SRK, do you think we are fools??? The ONLY reason this movie has had great opening is because of the hype created by SRK as he does with all his movies. Nothing more nothing less. I personally don't believe the figures in the media though. They sound fake. This movie should be called Crappy New Year. Don't waste your time with this one. Go watch a Haider or a Daawat E Isqh or Ex Villain instead.

Well done Dhanush!
22 June 2013
What is different about this movie? Dhanush. An ordinary looking actor from the Tamil Film Industry. And what has he done? He has very easily managed to carry the entire film on his two shoulders. Not an easy task, but he has done it. Reason? His immense talent and experience. Not once did I feel bored watching him act flawlessly. Sonam Kapoor is another surprise package of this movie. She has also acted very well. If she wants to be taken seriously as an actor, she must do roles with meat like the one in this movie. Abhay Deol has a guest appearance which he has performed well as expected. I was sceptical about this movie but was I surprised! I am glad I went and watched this movie in a theatre. Money well spent I must say. I wont give away anything about the story in my review. I'll just say, please go and watch the movie in a theatre. And last but not the least, I want to say, "Well done Dhanush, Welcome to Hindi Film Industry!".

A movie by morons for morons
8 June 2013
Oh god! I cant believe that I spent my hard earned money to go watch this movie last night and I so regret it. This is a classic case of a movie by morons for morons. The movie has no plot whatsoever. What were the makers thinking while making this movie??? Where is the story??? What the hell was that all about??? The movie started out at a decent pace but very quickly lost pace and then it dragged on and on and on till I could no longer bear to sit. Thankfully the movie ended abruptly. It was like, OK enough messing around, lets end this movie now! Last but not the least, what was all that alcohol drinking all about? Most characters for most part of the movie have a wine glass or a beer bottle in their hand! Oh, now I understand! This movie was actually a very very long ad for the benefits of drinking alcohol! Well, there you go, now you know what you will be watching if you still want to go that is! YAWN!

A very funny movie!
6 October 2012
This movie reminds you of the 70s Sanjeev Kumar starer 'Yehi Hai Zindagi', though the stories are very different. In both the movies the hero is an atheist and Lord (Bhagwan) Sri Krishna visits him. That's where the similarity ends though. This movie is funny to the core. Trust Paresh Rawal to tickle your funny bone with his very realistic performance of a common 'dukandar' taking on the powers of representatives of God! The script is tight with powerful dialogues. Akshay Kumar is hilarious in the role of God. Mithun Chakraborty once again proves his acting skills this time as a gay God Man! All in all, a real time pass movie with a message. A must watch movie, especially for Paresh Rawal fans!

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Superb! Fantastic! Definitely worth a Standing Ovation! This movie is a winner all the way. Right from the script to the characters, everything falls in place. Very difficult to find faults, in fact there is no need to find faults. This movie takes you on a journey of a typical Indian housewife who can hardly speak English. The treatment of the movie is such that you feel a connection with the movie. The best 'part' of the movie is, of course, Sridevi. Yes, The Sridevi. Her acting is so natural and realistic that you feel the emotions that she is going through in the movie. Sridevi has proved once again (after a break of 15 long years) that she is still the Queen of Bollywood, the so-called Female Amitabh Bachchan (as she was known as in the 80s & 90s). I saw this movie today in an overseas theater and not surprisingly, the theater was mostly full of mature audience, her fans. The movie and Sridevi's performance is worth not only many Filmfare Awards but most definitely an Oscar! Well Done Sridevi!

I was speechless!
12 March 2012
At first, I wasn't so sure of how this movie will be, but then once I watched it, I was left speechless. This movie is Oscar material. Right from the location, the sets, the costumes, the lingo, the performances is perfect. The performance of the lead actor, Irrfan Khan is award winning. He has (once again) proved that he an actor par excellence. The narration of the movie is done at a speed which is just perfect. Once you see this movie, it leaves you sad for the great Indian athletes who have to struggle in pathetic conditions. They have to face politics and favoritism at every step of the way. And most of all, they receive no appreciation or recognition from the society. Like the character said in the movie, when he won gold medals for the country no one recognized him and now that he is a Chambal Valley dacoit, the whole nation knows him. Very sad indeed. I wont reveal any story details, I leave it to you to go and watch this movie. 10/10.
