Enslaved (2020)

Poor standard if work.
19 October 2020
Dreadful. Leave documentaries to the Brits/Europeans. A lot of money wasted on pretty pictures and poorly researched storys. Brushed over the most interesting interview with an Asante lady in Kumasi Ghana who was explaining how the slaves were rounded up by locals! Tribe war spoils so to speak ,( of course doesnt justify what came next for these poor souls). One could feel SLJ distancing himself from this shoddy work.

Boring show-off brag.
11 May 2020
I cant take any more of his reminding us how rich he is. Hes certainly not funny any more, tries too hard. At least, one can tell that he knows that he isn't funny any more. Everything is wrong. I wish he would just take his lolly and go away. Financially probably the richest comedian ever, but will be forgotten. (unless he gives me a few million).

Didnt even smile once at any of the "humour".

It starts so well..then zzzz
28 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was all excited. Opened a bottle of red wine after watching the opening scene with Snoop Dogg. Great costumes, Sly and Family Stones " I wanna thank you fo lettin me be mice elf again" the first track used, matched the era and it all was eye and ear candy to the max. Was rubbing my hands with glee, took a sip from my Shiraz and then unpaused the movie and continued watching. I shouldn't have stopped it, I jinxed it. It went from dull to duller, I dont know what was funny about Dolemite or the silly rhymes. Endured it anyway, I tittered once or twice more. Lots of pretty women, that was about it.

Brilliant tinges of Spinal Tap here and there
29 October 2018
I think everything in the good reviews I've read here have said it all, but I'd like to add that I loved the little Spinal Tap-esque moments that are very subtle here and there (and I wont spoiler on any of them, but all bands love (and can identify with ) Spinal Tap, Im sure Brian May and Roger Taylor are no different) Any band will tell you that touring isnt all as glamorous as its made up to be and doing mundane things or keeping mundane interests while on the road are what is normal! The film was made to be funny, in the spirit of Freddie himself, he came accross to me anyway as a happy go lucky fun guy...and the director and Brian and Roger have mastered this.

The Orville (2017–2022)
Its the best space thing since the original Star Trek TV show.
9 October 2017
Oddly, its the most realistic sci-fi space show you will see. And as a great review mentioned somewhere, we finally see people being real people rather than these perfect and boring politically correct dull "yes Captain" pencil-pusher types. Give this show a go..you'll be convinced by episode 3.

A must see
29 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think I'm spoiling anything but I ticked the spoiler box anyway. This is a must see for all lovers of Black Sabbath and/or Rock/Hard Rock. The inventors of heavy metal are at their brilliant best. The concert footage is masterfully shot and edited, showing shots of the right things at the right time, with great meaningful close ups, especially Iommi's fingers (whats left of them) working their magic on his Gibson SG neck. The bass, vocal and guitar sounds are all flawless in the mix. (If I had a moan, the kick-drum is a bit low/clicky.) The footage comes from their final concert (in their hometown of Birmingham), and its interspersed by interviews with Ozzy, Geezer and Tony, sometimes all together, sometimes isolated. Ozzy is hilarious as usual, and Geezer and Tony add loads of jokes themselves. 3 great guys who don't take themselves too seriously at all, except that the sadness of the'final show is really apparent in their "post gig" faces. There's also great stuff they did a few days after the show in a Studio....but I wont spoil with any details, its just incredible!

Farewell To Kings Indeed
13 December 2016
If you're (like me) a die-hard Rush fan, you'll be weeping at the end. Can't help feeling that Lifeson and Lee are not at all happy about the end of touring days for Rush. At the same time one can understand why Peart has hung up his tour cymbals. There is no easy way to play a Rush song, let alone perform like an octopus on speed for 3 hours at 63! Generally the movie is a good insight into the work it takes to put on a show, and the groundhog-day affect it has on the band and crew. Beautifully shot and edited, with clips of the band throughout all their stages (bad hair, dreadful 80s clothes et al). My only "negative" viewpoint: Cant help feeling this "film" was rush-released a bit. (no pun intended) It seems like Alex and Geddy are doing a "see how sad people are Neil? See what you're quitting?". Additionally, they might also have touched on "hey fans, we might have stopped touring, but we will still keep writing and recording!"..but they didn't. I think if you put the three boys in a car together now there would be deadly silence as each one just stares out the window. I don't think we've heard the last of this. Prediction: More albums....the odd one-off show. We shall watch and pray....

War & Peace (2016)
Visually Stunning. That's all.
11 January 2016
Very disappointed having watched the first 2 episodes. Pretty much all the reviews written so far on this site are accurate. Poor casting, poor acting/directing, pure drivel. What a pity. Very unbelievable delivery of lines. Also the sound is odd, the spoken stuff is very quiet , but then the background/music is way too loud. All seems like a bit of a rush job. Ill keep watching the episodes with the sound turned down as I practice an instrument. Some better casting might have done the trick, perhaps they should have used Russian actors, or maybe the script is the culprit. I don't know, it seems like each first take was used. Visually beautiful, costumes are amazing. What a pity.

Pan Am (2011–2012)
5/10
Inaccuracy
21 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Great imagery, gorgeous girls, but script is silly, and inaccurate! There's a scene where the French Stewardess (Flight Attendant these days) sings the German National Anthem at a party, in the early 60's. Unfortunately, she sings a forbidden verse, removed after the second world war. "Deutschland Uber Alles" is NOT in the German anthem anymore!, and singing it would land you in serious hot water! She should have been led away in handcuffs!

Furthermore, there were no direct flights into Berlin from USA. Pan Am were restricted to landing in Frankfurt, and then passengers had to change planes and take a smaller PanAm aircraft flight to Berlin, and these were staffed by a local crew.

The actors playing Germans are clearly not German, speak horrendous German with obvious American accents.

Finally, you would rarely see the same crew together all the time. There is a permanent rotation of staff, so flying with all your buddies was very rare indeed, unless by coincidence!
