Candy Cane Lane (2023)
Why the need.......
We watched this last night. My husband found it far more entertaining than I did, hence 4 stars and not lower. There was a scene that I just found really offensive. I don't understand the need these days to be against Christianity all together. There is a scene where the elf asks Murphy what Christmas means. He says all this feel good stuff. Totally fine, I don't expect everyone to include Christ in Christmas, and I don't think it's hollywoods job to evangelize, but did he have to add, "oh, unless you want to go the religious route" with the elf responding Jesus Christ no. I know that Christians can be our own worst enemies, but this anti-Christian culture is offensive. If you expect me to respect your chosen lifestyles, why can you not have respect for ours? Why the need to intentionally disrespect an entire group? Isn't that what caused inequality?
Aside from that, I found the movie really dumb, but like I said, my husband enjoyed it quite a bit more than I did. I would have shut it off if not for him. I also don't understand this new way of filming to make everyone look like they have perfect skin. It's like a TikTok filter was applied to this movie.
The Black Demon (2023)
Would give this a solid 5....
I scored this higher in an effort to combat the really low scores. People are bashing this like crazy, but it's really not that terrible of a film. I wouldn't call it horror, but it definitely falls in the suspense category. It's got a message about pollution, and they used this film to get that message across. I wouldn't call it a blockbuster, there are definitely parts that are silly, but all in all it's entertaining. All the people who said the acting was horrible, they're just full of it, the acting is actually pretty good. Basically go into this knowing what it is. It's a megaladon movie with a message. Can't take that too seriously.
Slasher: 6am to 9am (2019)
Terrible!
This is like a total b movie. It's bad acting and poor storyline. It's like watching something that people could film with their cell phones and friends. They throw in sex scenes at a failed attempt to make it worth watching. The worst part is that I have to try and come up with 500 words to describe terrible. The first couple seasons had some cheese effect, this episode is bad from start to finish. Doesn't keep any interest at all. I feel bad for the actors involved as I sure wouldn't want this on my resume as an actor. I hope they at least got paid enough to justify putting their careers on the line.
A Pyromaniac's Love Story (1995)
One of my faves
This was one of my favorite 90's flicks. It was right there with Singles. It was quirky and weird, yet also had the rom com feel to it. I loved Billy Baldwin back then in this because he just looked like he had bed head through the whole movie, and if you were young in the 90's, that was the "hot guy" look. I've always been a fan of John Luguizamo, so his starring in this just added to my love of the film. It's funny how it has low IMDB ratings by todays standards, because my friend group all loved this movie because it had that same kind of odd/weird vibe that a lot of the cool 90's films had.
Poker Face (2023)
Enjoyable
The first episode grabbed our attention so we watched it and the second. Now as each episode comes out, I'll throw it on and every single time, my husband thinks we've started something new until we go back to the beginning, before the murder. Then he said again how it got him! The most recent episode ended without closure so we are left wondering if it's a two part episode. We are also wondering if we will ever round back to that first episode. I love her bs meter as well as her lack of ability to bite her tongue. She is a great character that just draws you in from the start. Can't wait for the next episode!
Fall (2022)
Definitely makes you nervous....
Is it original? Nah, it's kind of like the sky version of 47 meters, but it definitely gets your gut tingling with the high scenes. I did research how the filmed it and that was super impressive! There's some things that are super silly, but you need to just roll with it and remember it's a work of fiction. If you can do that, you'll really enjoy it. My husband is afraid of heights so it was extra stressful for him. I've never been very afraid of heights, but I can say this one got my stomach rolling from the high scenes. I do recommend looking up how the movie was made and it'll definitely help you respect it a bit more.
Harry & Meghan (2022)
So much hate.....
Honestly I don't have any issues with this at all. I'm not someone who follows the royal family, I didn't even watch the wedding when everyone in my office was tuning into it. They made a decision to depart from "The Institution", which also means the bread and butter. They made a decision to sign a deal to make this autobiographical documentary. They've made the decisions they have for monetary purposes. How is this not okay? They were used to a particular lifestyle and taking on these public stories gives them a chance to make money and put their spin in their story. We all see things through our lens, why beat them up for doing what the rest of us feel entitled to do?
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
Such a weird movie!!
Without Giving away any spoilers, leave it to say this movie is incredibly weird in every way! It's dark and also slow paced and may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's incredibly well acted and produced. The characters are strange. The humor is beyond dark, but I did find myself laughing often.
If you're down for strange and an ending that doesn't actually end anything, and leaving all your questions unanswered, and you're down for dark and dreary, then this would be the movie foe you.
There's not a single solitary uplifting thing in this movie whatsoever, yet I find it strangely satisfying.
Boo, Bitch (2022)
Enjoyed with my kid
My kid and I watched this together. I like when there are shows we can sit side by side and have some bonding time. My kid is 14 so at an age between kid and too grown up. This fell right in that middle space for us.
The Northman (2022)
Weird
We thought this would be a Viking movie with a lot of violence. Turns out it wasn't that at all. It was quite slow at times with a whole lot of weird "spiritual" stuff going on. Like awkward magic with little explanation. Not my cup of tea at all.
The story line also lacked quite a bit.
Spencer (2021)
Shocked at the ratings
I just shut this off just under half way in. It's terrible. Boring. I'm stunned by the high reviews. I kept waiting for it to get better and it just didn't so I finally gave up. I don't recommend this for anyone.
The Misfits (2021)
What the heck did I just watch?
Stupid and campy. It started off okay and then just kept getting dumber. They tried so hard to make it funny and the harder they tried the worse it got. Not to mention it's not even remotely close to plausible.
The Witcher (2019)
Why the need for so many f bombs?
First of all the word wasn't even used until 1598. The show is really good and I don't mind cursing to a point but this is a Fantasy period show. It's the only part of the show that bugs the "f" out of me.
Other than that I like the story, the comic relief, the costumes and the acting. My husband mentioned that Superman has a very Batman sound in this show and I found that pretty funny. Every time I hear him speak I think of Batman.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Brilliant
I avoided this intentionally because I thought it was going to be more slapstick. I started watching because I was looking for something to fill some time one day that I could walk away from. I was so wrong. I found myself gutteraly laughing and later found myself incredibly touched. It surprised me in such a good way.
Jungle Cruise (2021)
The nostalgia!!!
I loved it! I have been going to Disneyland since the 70's, and the jungle cruise was one of my favorite rides. They used all of the jokes from the ride and brought back years of memories. What could be better than flashbacks of happy moments in life?
Monsters of Man (2020)
Low budget film
If you can make a film with this level of special effects that actually seems like a much higher budget, then go for it. This guy made this movie with a budget under $2MM. Half your blockbusters can't even hire actors with that little of a budget. While watching it keep that in mind before criticizing and bashing this film.
Great White (2021)
So much hate for this movie....
There is so much hating on how terrible this movie is. I guess I would never expect a blockbuster movie about a shark attack, after all there is only one original Jaws. This was entertaining and a far better production than a lot of other cheesy horror and suspense films. I found it moderately entertaining and all of the over the top drama is humorous to me.
Office Uprising (2018)
Entertainment!
People are far too critical in rating low if it's not phenomenal. It basically means we have rating wars of highs and lows. I enjoyed this and found it funny and entertaining.
Interview with the Antichrist (2020)
This is NOT good.
I purchased this after reading some reviews. I don't mind end time movies at all, I am a fan of the left behind series. I do read scripture daily, and am fairly versed in it and theology. There are various believes in end times, pre-millennial a-millennial, etc. you can look them up yourselves as this is not a salvific issue by any stretch. I commented on this Facebook feed my thoughts on this movie and the creator promptly deleted my comments and sent me a message that I could not respond to. Christians should be prepared to give an account with gentle love, not cast stones of condemnation and then block the ability for cross communication. This creator did not act in accordance with how scripture calls us to behave. Furthermore, this move is all about fear and even at one point calls some churches good and other churches bad to the point where "baptists and non-denominational were raptured" while others were "left behind". This movie basically is how COVID-19 is the beginning of the end times, and is all about fear. Very unbiblical in my opinion. Scripture says do not fear tomorrow for today has enough worries of it's own. Scripture further says not to call a conspiracy what the world calls a conspiracy. This is all about conspiracy. It also links end times and rapture to America and frankly, I've never seen America in the Bible. This is someone who, I think, may very well have an unrealistic view of America as a savior type rather than actual trust in the Savior.
I also believe one of satans biggest weapons is "Christians" who have a heart of condemnation over grace and love. (Read CS Lewis Screwtape Letters). I think this would turn a non-believer further from God, and that is dangerous territory as scripture also warns about those who would lead His sheep astray.
I also highly doubt any antichrist would advise someone to "read the Bible" as this character did, though I do recommend everyone read the Bible as it will not return void. There are many false Christians out there and if they take the time to read scripture in it's entirety, I believe they'll start to have a relationship and their hearts will change, however we need to be cautious not to pick and choose and read out of context. That is what Satan did in the desert.
This creator did not engage in a biblical discussion, rather he deleted and blocked me. This creator does not embody what Christians are to embody. Watch this if you must, but please realize this is fear mongering propaganda that uses end time scriptures out of context and forgets who God actually is.
Expedition Happiness (2017)
I enjoyed it
These folks had a dream and did it. They learned lessons along the way and as much as many of the low ratings call them whiners, those reviews are whiny.
We are planning to retire in a skoolie, and for me at least, I was able to pick up a lot of their mistakes and learn from them with regard to their build.
As for those talking about how they tried to kill their dog, they ended their trip FOR their dog. They never denied their dog treatment. This is a young couple who hasn't had a lot of life experiences. They stopped every time their dog had struggles along the way, they paid for surgery, and emergency services each time their dog got sick. Their dog got giardia, that's a parasite. That's what ended their trip. Maybe try to be less judgmental.
Fearless (2020)
Why so much negative reviews?
I gauge these kind of movies by how long they hold the interest of a little one. This held interest so in my book it's a 10 because I can do stuff while the 6 year old is zoned out on the movie.
See (2019)
While I found it somewhat entertaining....
It's really difficult for me to buy into a lot of things. For example, wouldn't it be nice if when kids turned 13, they could magically read without having been taught? Illiteracy is a struggle for so many. I'm also struggling with the need for aesthetically pleasing garments, piercings or braids, when no one can see.
Other that being able to let these things go, it's entertaining enough to pass the time.
Unhinged (2020)
Actually more like a 7
I feel like I needed to up score a rad because of all the people judging the realistic-ness of this film. Isn't the point of watching a movie to escape reality? With that said, since I haven't seen anything like this on the news, no, it's not terribly realistic, however, it is a thriller and it most definitely will keep you entertained. There are a lot of edge of your seat moments that I really enjoyed, and loved that it had quite a few "shock" factors thrown in. My husband got up at one point and missed something epic and asked me to rewind. All in all, if you enjoy thrillers, definitely give this one a look.
50 States of Fright (2020)
Actually scary
First of all, these are filmed really well, they've got some excellent actors starring in it and the episodes are short enough that you can take one in on a break at work and still have time to go to the bathroom. I kind of think this quibi thing is brilliant.
If you're a fan of the horror genre, these are entertaining and in bite size pieces for those of us that just don't have time to binge watch hours of TV.
The Office Mix-Up (2020)
Endearing and cute
I happened upon this and thought I'd give it a shot. It's definitely lower budget, but it's actually really cute. If you like wholesome type films, this one is enjoyable. The main character is just darling. If you're looking for a blockbuster, this probably isn't the film for you, but it's entertaining and warming.
