Fair City (1989)
Really gone downhill
Fair City used to be good, but in recent times it really has went down hill. Issues like clerical sex abuse, brother/sister incest, drugs, suicide and teenage drinking have been brought in, just for the sake of it. Also the stories are becoming far too sensational, with another recent one involving the school principal's girlfirend having an affair with a student, who is dating her daughter.
This is a total change for the character, who originally was really straight laced and strict
Another thing that really annoys me is the fact that characters can just disappear for months on end. One of the characters, Stephen, has been missing for at least three or four months now. Maybe even since before Christmas! Storylines just concentrate on a group of characters for maybe a week or two, until its all changed and we are onto another group of characters. There's no real continuity.
Unless it gets a major overhaul, Fair City could be axed despite still being highly rated it just isn't the show it once was.
24 (2001)
Watch it!
24 is simply one of the best TV shows I've watched in ages. We still haven't started on season three, but the first two seasons were great. The acting is brilliant, and sure it has a few plot holes, but name me a show that has never made a mistake.
Sutherland is great as Jack Bauer, with strong support from the rest of the cast. 24's intricate (and sometimes confusing plot) makes it compelling, with something mentioned in passing later coming back to completely change the situation.
Two words: Watch it!
Sex and the City (1998)
Simply The Best
This show is for almost everyone. Middle aged women love it, smart teenagers (like myself) love it, men love it. It four strong, sexy female leads are all great in their roles.
There is Carrie Bradshaw, a writer who constantly seems to find meanings to all those ups and downs in a relationship.
Charlotte York is the upscale New Yorker, and the first of the women to get married. She has really changed over the shows course and has became more open with her friends.
Next is Samantha Jones, the one night stand girl who will try anything. She never likes to get involved, and has had encounters with both men and women.
Finally Miranda Hobbes is the smart lawyer, who likes to talk about sex, though isn't as interesting as the others. She was the first to become a mother.
Each of the characters has their own individual look, which really displays their personality. In fact the wardrobe is almost more important than the characters for some viewers.
The sexiest, funniest and best comedy/drama around. Watch it and you wont be disappointed.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000)
Great Show!
I just love this show. It's unpredictable, has great acting and has great characters. Although sometimes the images of rotting flesh, human insides etc. is a bit gory, it's all pretty interesting.
A lot of research goes into each show, and it pays off. Also I like the fact that the character's personal lives, and personal dramas take a backseat, which makes it better than other shows, like ER.
Season Three wasn't as good as the first two, but still better than most other TV shows on at the moment.
Footballers' Wives (2002)
So much fun!
This is one of the best shows to watch, you don't need to know everything that has happened beforehand to watch and the storyline's aren't very taxing after a long day at work.
The show follows (as you've probably guessed) Premiership footballers and their wives. There are Jason (seasons 1 & 2) and Tanya (season 1 - ), the constantly sparring, schemeing and cheating couple. He's a sex-mad, homophobic bad buy and captain of Earls Park Rangers while she's a cocaine addict, attempted murderer and TV's biggest bitch.
Next there's the dull Walmsley family, who only lasted 1 1/2 seasons on the show.
The Pascoes consist of Kyle (season 1 - )and his glamour model wife Chardonnay (seasons 1 & 2), as well as his mother Jackie. They are very Posh and Becks. In season 1 Jackie got pregnant with Jason Turner's baby, and then Char learned she couldn't have kids so they came up with the crazy idea that she and Kyle would bring up Jackie's baby. But as ever in FW things went wrong and it turned out that the baby had both male and female reproductive organs. At the end of season two, Jackie left with baby Paddy. Will she return?
There are also other characters, Salvitore Biagi (another footballer), who had an affair with Donna Walmsley, Freddie Hauser (his new love interest), Stefan (her father, manager of Earls Park) and Frank (who Tanya tried to kill and also works at Earls Park).
Overall this show is great!
Crossroads (2001)
2003: A Great Seris RIP
Crossroads 2003 was a breath of fresh air compared to the usual, dull and drab TV soaps with tradidtional, boring storylines which take weeks to pan out. But Crossroads was different from the start, with a memorable opening sequence with Jane Asher in a thong (with Angel written on it!).
Glamour, sex, beautiful men and women, Crossroads had all the ingredients to be great, but sadly ITV1 axed it before it had even been on for two months. They don't seem to understand that show's need to be given a chance to develop.
Storylines such as the catfights between Angel Samson and her nemisis Kate Russell, Ethan's reign of terror over King's Oak citizens, the 1970's weel of flashbacks and anything at all with the fab Vince Vaccaro made the show really stand out.
Also memorable big name guest stars, including Lionel Blair and Kate O' Mara also added to the mix. And funny "comedy" storylines which were new compared to stupid, repetitive stories such as those in Eastenders and Coronation Street were great too.
Sadly viewers didn't flock to the show, but it wasn't really given a chance. If the show had had promotion, and a better time slot then it would have beaten Corrie, Eastenders and Emmerdale too in my honest opinion.
