Wichita (2014)
We enjoyed this film & appreciated it was local origins.
My husband & I saw this film in our hometown of Wellington, Ks. It was filmed & made by folks around our neck of the woods. We thought the story started off a bit confusing by introducing so many different characters without back stories but their stories unfolded well over the length of the film. In our opinions, it's a dark western with an original story line. Quite an impressive endeavor, for a few people with one camera. We were totally pleased with the end result & recommend this film to anyone, especially people who enjoy westerns set in the late 1800s. Impressive use of many local venues to make the audience feel like they'd stepped back in time.
Million Dollar Baby (2004)
One of the best films I've seen in years.
I must say, when I rented this movie I did not expect too much. I love Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Hillary Swank but I tend to be "gun shy" of movies that win big at the Oscars. It starts out as a typical "formula" movie but then throws a curve that even I never expected. I was very moved and broken-hearted by the turn of events and haven't felt so overwhelming sad over a movie in decades. Morgan Freeman's voice-over narration is a bit hard to hear at times and Clint's gruff voice is hard to understand at times. It's a slow-paced movie but always manages to keep your interest. The sheer brutality of the fights that Hillary's character wins is awesome. Who would of thought she'd pack such a powerful punch! Without giving away the tragic twist, I'd just like to say that I consider this movie a "must-see". Make sure you have a box of Kleenex close at hand.
