Tujhyat Jeev Rangala (2016)
One of the Best Marathi Shows Ever Overstayed It's Welcome
Original village set storyline, excellent musical score and an outstanding all round acting performances together makes this one of the best Marathi TV serials ever created. Akshaya Deodhar is very beautiful in her role as Anjali and Dhamnashree Kadgaonkar's Nandita is one of the best played negative roles ever. Hardeek Joshi as Rana and other supporting characters did a great job in this memorable TV series. But as with almost all other Indian TV shows, this serial too overstayed it's welcome with the quality of the show's writing significantly degrading by about half way through the series. Still the first half is well worth watching and rewatching for all ages. An excellent addition in to the history of Marathi TV.
Godzilla (1998)
Criminally Underated...By Fans of Godzilla!!
Ok so the Godzilla in the movie is not really Godzilla (a creature that can't be destroyed, hence the name God-zilla); it was more like an over-sized T-Rex and a mortal one at that. But it's still a different take on the iconic Godzilla series and if one gives it a chance, it kind-of grows on you. I remember they used to show this on cable TV all the time and I always used to stop (winding through the channels) to watch some of the scenes. This movie has a blend of humor (almost as if it's not taking itself seriously at times) and the casting of Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Hank Azaria is just perfect, and the girl is cute too ("it's Gojira you moron!"). It has it's share of a stereotypical Hollywood action-flick moments (which I found myself smiling at), because it was all done in a humorous way. The movie is no masterpiece by any means, but last I saw, this had a criminal rating of 4.2, now thankfully up to just about 5.5; but I feel (looking back now) this movie should have a solid rating of 6.5 to 6.9..
Enterprise (2001)
A very tame entry in the otherwise successful Star Trek franchise..
If TOS was the start of a wonderful journey, TNG made it more memorable, DS9 did well because it brought a new concept to the series....Voyager was a modern Star Trek version (better graphics, special effects etc), so can be somewhat excused.. Enterprise tried to be different at first but put bluntly failed to bring anything new to the series, later episodes were just your garden variety Star Trek episodes, been there done that, like that episode where Trip get marooned on a planet with a hostile alien..various versions of this have already been done in all Star Trek Series. Lots of episodes in between were very loosely made and when the ratings started dropping, they tried to add more action, skin show quite forgetting the original direction of the show.. The idea of first contact was so over stretched that new episodes started to look like Pokemon filler episodes where you get to see a new alien species every week.. Even the main story line quickly started becoming less and less engaging and had so many plot holes to keep the average smarter audience of Sci-Fi interested much. Characterization and character development were poor, most of the episodes were mostly about Archer, Trip and T'Pol...rest of the main cast were sidelined in descending order Phlox, Reed, Hoshi, Merryweather... Overall Enterprise remains a very tame entry in the otherwise successful Star Trek franchise... lets hope they are more prepared the next time a new series is green lighted.
Stargate SG-1: Unending (2007)
By it's own standards..
Just finished watching SG-1 and my take on the ending is that, this series though far from perfect with many flaws, loopholes and contradictions is a OK if we set it a certain standard which I wouldn't rate as bad.
The alien race Azgards is poorly constructed (I would have given them telekinetic powers to make up for their frail bodies and some clothes..), very less explained and the way they finally end is quite unrealistic. The Ancients are ascended, the Nox are conveniently MIA and the Furlings.. well they are absent, leaving Earth (ie US military) to save the universe from powerful forces such as the Wraith, Ori etc. At the beginning, things are quite believable.. a single device Stargate, unknown to the public and used by the military to explore the universe secretly; but towards the later part & the end, what with the flying ships, beaming transporters etc a question comes to mind, is this set in our reality or some other! Surely with so much advanced technology we could fix a lot of problems in our world with very less efforts but that is not so.. Like this I can go on with the many short comings of this series but as I said before Stargate is far from perfect and if we just watch it as a mere entertainer without thinking too much this show is actually quite OK.
Guess in the end the final episode is kind-of based on the famous saying "the show must go on.." and it also sets as a platform for future movies/TV shows on Stargate. The Azgard farewell (however unbelievable) and Teal'c sacrifice in saving SG-1 inputs an emotional factor to the end of this long running series.
