Hachiko Lives On
8 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
What many people don't know is that Hachiko was a real dog and the story is true. A Japanese Akita loved his master so much, he waited for him everyday at the Shibuya train station in Tokyo, and they walked home together when he came back for 2 years. Tragically his master died at work and never came back, but Hachiko waited 10 years for him to come home and died at the train station still waiting. Hachi, A Dogs Tale was a beautiful movie about the real Hachiko and the loyalty and love he had for his master. Richard Gere is a great actor and his character is believable and likable, and Hachi (a Japanese style Akita) is absolutely adorable! I seriously wanted to hug him throughout the movie. The setting was a little different (Rhode Island instead of Japan) but it didn't really matter. The story is heartbreaking and lovely as you watch Hachi wait for his master until they are finally reunited. As a warning though: Bring tissues, this movie is super sad!!!

Funny People (2009)
Watch the First Hour and a Half, Then Turn it Off
8 August 2010
I'll admit I know this wasn't a typical Sandler movie as the near death experience added a bit of drama, and at first most of the characters were very likable and funny. Sandler kind of comes off as an ass at the beginning but then gets a little more likable as the movie progresses. There were many times where I laughed out loud at the jokes they made, and Sandler bantering Rogan was pretty hilarious. I thought to myself "Okay, this is cute I like it." BUT THEN! After the hour and a half mark hit, it's like the director said "Hey let's throw as much useless crap on the end of this and hope it still stays funny!" WHAT?! Why did Sandler have to go rehash stuff with his ex wife, why did he run around like a pussy for almost an hour and still not get the girl, and why did this movie drag on in no apparent direction for no apparent reason? After Sandler found out he was cured, that where is should've ended, right there and it would've been decent, but noooo! The director decides to torture us for almost another hour on random and unfunny garbage. After the first hour and a half, I started to really hate Sandler and Rogan's characters, they just came off as really annoying. So all in all the first hour and a half was funny, witty, and mostly cute, but after that just turn it off, you'll be glad you did!

You'd have to be a schmuck to waste your money on this movie
8 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not really a big fan of Steve Carrell personally, but Despicable Me was funny and I've heard a few good reviews so I decided to check it out. The concept is fairly funny and could've have been really entertaining: Invite a bunch of idiots to dinner, whoever entertains the most wins, but that's when it just went wrong: None of the characters were even remotely likable. I seriously thought "who the hell would want to deal with any of these people?" throughout most of the movie. Tim and Julie who were supposed to be in love reminded me of a crochity old married couple who hated each other. Julie was constantly b*tching at Tim over God knows what throughout the whole movie and I kept thinking "Can anything make this chick happy? Jesus!" And Tim just sat there and took it like an idiot. Then Barry (Carell) comes in, and seriously, I wanted to punch him in the face throughout the whole movie. Nothing he did was funny, remotely clever, or even close to being likable or cute. Whatever he did was just annoying and extremely obnoxious. Even the dressed up mice thing didn't come off as funny because his character was so undeniably unlikeable, it just came off as stupid. All in all, you'd have to be a schmuck to waste your money on this movie. Taking a great concept and putting not even close to likable characters together does NOT equal a good thing.

Inception (2010)
9/10
It's About Time!
7 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
In a day and age where most movies are cookie cutter and extremely generic on most levels or remakes that are worse than the original, Inception truly is truly a breath of fresh air from all the mindless drivel Hollywood's been pushing out lately. The scenes were amazingly beautiful, the characters believable and likable, and the storyline was in a sense leaving me wondering how the director thought of it. The story is slightly harder to grasp, but the concept of dreams and the inception of them is one that most would never even begin to comprehend. It's overall an interesting theory that there is no reality, but what we see in every day life is only a projection, an illusion of what we believe is real, a plausible theory for the deep thinker/philosopher. The only gripe I had with the movie: in the 3rd level into the dream (the large snowy fortress) did there really have to be so much fighting with the guards? After a 20-30 minutes, all the fighting just seemed uninteresting, boring and a little drawn out. The director could've easily taken a lot the fighting out and still would have had equally as much drama. Other than that, the movie is almost perfect and one of the best films I've seen in 2010. Oh, and just like Shutter Island (another big hit), the ending will keep you guessing!
