Ek Villain Returns (2022)
I swear I will never watch anyhing from this director ever again, the absolute worst film in ages !
I stopped following Bollywood altogether after I broke up with my ex who used to drag me to the cinema to watch some cliched D class film. Watched Ek Villian Returns out of boredom and I can safely say it is the absolute worst film in a long time, what were they thinking ? It feels like the director, writer and actors are all in some sick joke oblivious to the audience as the movie just falls apart completely after the first 15 mins. The rest of the movie feels like pieces of different movies scribbled over each other... The acting is off almost all the time, Arjun Kapur just keeps on getting worse at acting, it almost feels like he is intentionally trying to be as cringe as possible... 'Ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-Kiran' krne se koi SRK nai ban jata. The plot as more holes than a golf course.
Hands down, the worst movie I have seen in the last decade, may be ever.
0/10.
Ms. Marvel: Crushed (2022)
Just pure awful !
Although I didn't like the first episode I couldn't take this one. The extra attempt at being 'bollywood', excess Indian songs, girl meets boy who btw didn't have to be shirtless to just win our protagonists heart. Love at first sight was the main focus and I had completely forgotten I was watching something Marvel. Also, I am a Pakistani and even I can't digest this utter BS. The creatives are so bad for this show too, I mean Kamala Khan ? Malala Khan? Really ? Couldn't do any better ! Epic fail !
Scream (2022)
Cliches and pre-re-sequel-mania
The movie is pretty average and a lot of characters are just there for 5 min screen time at max. This leads to little or no character development and even our protagonist is hard to root for - for many obvious reasons. The ending is also a let down and seeing things play out after all the hype is another low for the movie.
5/10.
The Wheel of Time: Blood Calls Blood (2021)
Lacks synchoronization or flow
First 15 mins were decent flow and then it suddenly starts hoping from one storyline to another while missing major sub-plots and details. A filler episode was expected after the last episode's ending but they could have done it in a way better manner. Thoughts of this being a successor to GOT or LOTR style adaptation can now be dismissed most certainly.
6/10.
New Amsterdam: Blood, Sweat & Tears (2021)
i just need to point this fallacy out
Max needs to stop making that fail puppy face at the end of every episode or whenever there is some emo dialogue, its not cute or pretty and tbh I find it quite annoying.
A filler episode at worst, definitely not the worst episode of the show or even the season.
Defending Jacob: Visitors (2020)
Slow, boring and annoying
This episode was just a filler. Laurie's character is so annoying. She is doubting her son at every step, lying and being manipulated by everyone around her. The episode felt like it was 2 hours long. I can't continue watching this anymore.. I really tried to like this show but its just not working for me. Don't know what's up with the fake reviews.
Defending Jacob: Damage Control (2020)
A decent episode, probably saved me from giving up on the show !
I was not impressed after watching the first three episodes and I had started to lose interest slowly as the show went on but this episode kept me engaged throughout the episode. I think they can conclude the season nicely in the next four episodes. If you haven't watched this episode yet, please do so, and don't give up on the show yet if you were thinking off doing so just like myself. I am not going into details because I am trying to keep this review spoiler-free. In a nutshell, we get to learn a bit more about our protagonist that sets a tone for the episodes ahead. Laurie is pretty good in the episode too, her acting in this episode is pretty good.
Defending Jacob: Poker Faces (2020)
Our protangonist and his fmaily is carving a case out of nothing and its boring
Murder gene, the way Chris Evans is dealing with his interrogation.. Boo-hoo? Really ? First, the removal of evidence. Then, the dumb moves by Jacob and now this.. I have lost all interest to follow this season anymore. I will probably just wait until the finale and then just skim through it all in an hour or two save myself the awful ride. Nothing much left to learn from this show.
Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008)
WOW
The documentary starts off with a light and humorous tone which sets up the mood for the audience to get ready for the horrific accounts that are entailed later on. It is mesmerizing, heart-wrenching. awe inspiring tale that keeps the viewer at the edge of their seats. A must watch !
10/10
Sweden Dying to Be Multicultural (2017)
Multicultiral or 'islamophobia'
Sweden dying to be 'islamophobic'. The documentary talks about multiculturalism and immigration but quite calmly only talks about muslim immigrants and the loss of the Swedish culture to Islam. The invertviews conducted are mostly of people who are either of Polish or Hungarian descent and fails to incorporate the Swedish take on the matter.
Also, there is no constructive approach to the topics in the documentary, it feels haphazard and fails to correctly address the issue of 'multiculturalism failing' or should we just say for the love of God the paranoia of islam taking over whatever. Poor portrayal of freedom being controlled.
I have travelled across Europe and I am a Muslim and I can say that Sweden has it better than most of its European allies when it comes to freedom to speech. The media may be controlled but the government's fear of it leading to mass hysteria is not baseless. There is a fine line between freedom of speech and hate speech and modern mass communication just tries to test this boundary one too many times just to experiment its limits. How can Polish and Hungarian people give sound analysis of what the Swedish culture is and how its being lost to multiculturalism when they themselves are part of that multiculturalism. Like I said, they just targeted muslims and not multiculturalism otherwise they would have talked about themselves with the same notion.
Chhichhore (2019)
Over-rated, over-emotional, mediocre Bollywood flick !
This is my first review for a Bollywood film and it is because I am outraged by the rating of this time. IMDB serves as a useful site to get decent entertainment, the ratings on IMDB are mostly accurate and close enough most of the times but this movie isn't one of those times. The rating for this movie on IMDB is 8.4 which is not doing justice to it and I am going to analyze why I'd say so..
Firstly, the plot ! The plot for the movie revolves around the past of the parents of a young boy who are trying to cope with a recent tragedy by narrating the story of the amazing time they had during their college days. The plot itself is weak, filled with mediocre scenes, songs and script. The pace of the movie is pretty monotonous, so is the tone of the movie. It is filled with cliches and the director uses emotional baggage to carry the story throughout the 2 hrs and 30 mins, which brings me to another thing wrong with the movie , its too damn long, I lost interest midway and had to skim through the rest of it to get to the very predictable ending in an anti-climatic way.
The acting by most of the actors is over-done at times and character development is pretty weak. I found the humor present to be dull and below par. The songs are pretty average and are mostly forced in the movie to give it the Bollywood feel.
In hindsight, I can say the movie is at best a 6 and the score it got on IMDB is just pertinent to the fact that Indian public is easily persuaded by emotional meritocracy. Another thing to mention is the unrealistic notions that are filled within the core of the movie. Not only is it unrealistic but it also shows the lack of creativity in script and story writing. In all aspects the movie is pretty average and is unworthy of such a high score on IMDB. I wish the Indian public raises their standards of judging good cinematic pieces and weed out such average flicks for the sake of raising the standard of bollywood as a whole.
I have been trying to think about any good aspect of this film and in all honesty I can't seem to put my finger on a single one that's how average the experience of watching this was for me.
Good Omens: The Very Last Day of the Rest of Their Lives (2019)
A disappointing end to a decent series
Okay.... I am writing this in the midst of ending the finale. I am just outraged by the way the four horsemen were demolished was ridiculous, and even the Satan himself. Don't care about the book but the ending in my humble opinion was really bad and felt rushed.
A disappointing end to a rather good mini-series. I rated this series an 8 but I am only reviewing this episode and giving it a 3/10 and even with that I think I am being generous.
Sharp Objects (2018)
Great pilot to a promising new series
Just saw the pilot and I was pretty impressed. It has a captivating pace and the scores seem to fit right in. The acting is on point and so is the screenplay. HBO's new gem with a lot of potential and promise. Give it a watch, hopefully you won't be disappointed.
