Zashchitniki (2017)
Just needed better storytellers, Cliché-Galore.
Discarding the country of origin (like we all tend to do where art is concerned) I was extremely curious.
The camera quality is amazing, the special effects surprising and off & on stunning with beautiful actors portraying the "Guardians".
Downside to it all & my low appreciation is not about above mentioned variables... it is for the extreme cliche's used for interaction between superheroes, their environment & other humans.
Again (& I have the same complaint about DC Comics movies) a potential great movie is dragged down by the inability to tell a good story, have good character interactions & make it coherent.
Just "sticking special effects together with some dialog" isn't worth it. I for one will monitor progress on Russian Superheroes on the silver screen because they already have a few beautiful comics. And for an incredible low budget! If you want to enjoy great water effects, like to see rocks flying in combat etc & don't care about what, why, who, how & where in a logical understandable story line. Watch it.
I fell asleep irritated ;-)
P.s. I would have named them different to make a distinction from Marvel & avoid plagerism gossip. Pretty much looks deliberate to get traction.
Jekyll and Hyde (2015)
Not recommended.
There is no disputing taste.
To me the first episode was HORRIBLE!
No acting talent spotted, the scenes are cut in hiccups, no credibility to the start of the storyline.
Way too many cinematographic styles mixed / unmatched. It almost seems as if several opinions about style are presented all at once in episode 1.
A good effort for wardrobes & locations but that could not save the cliché's nor this disastrous waste of money.
It is surprising to me that this rolled to the shores from the U.K. Several of the actors performed much better in other productions UNLESS you where the main villain in Hudson Hawk.
Personally I would be ashamed to put it on my resume.
Penny Dreadful: And Hell Itself My Only Foe (2015)
Stunning & very well planned new take on legends.
Beautiful & dynamic progression of the story when almost all powers seem to converge to fight & confront.
The sets are always fitting to the mood, dangers or interactions of the main characters. The effects of light, scenery, props & clothing fit-the-bill.
I am mesmerized by the plot twists & swirls in an seemingly endless bottomless inspiration that are interesting variations on (to some) chewed out legendary characters but ...
.. this one episode might kill one of the main & very intricate part of the core cast members and I for one would feel that as a loss to the series in general.
Wuthering Heights (2011)
Animal cruelty
Displaying hanging of puppy dogs and suggesting resulted death by a child - parental guidance mandatory. How is this no animals where harmed during their participation?? ><
Good camera work, Gritty mood throughout the whole movie. Because generations know the story this is a refreshing but very slow take on the classic.
Some costumes look out of time and human nature is portrayed in its most sliming, noisy & disgusting way possible.
Cast & crew can take a certain pride in their attempt but I would never recommend this movie for entertainment.
Riddick (2013)
Anticipated and it was all awesome till...
... they killed Riddicks partner. No matter what the species. Portraying the murder of protecting domesticated is such a big turn off.
The movie starts slow with an unneeded softy partnership. The graphics & industrial design (artwork) is mighty fine. The smart interactions start to fail when the human nature starts to corrupt the storyline.
The writers have tried combining all the best elements from the previous movies into this one and utterly failed to mesmerize the end result. You can walk out of the cinema impressed only by the high quality if graphics.
It is Riddick without the "raw furyan" mystique.
Karl Urban outshines the cast in absence.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Not surprised this is the best of 250 movies.
An amazing movie about human nature & real friendship. Hope can be found in the darkest of times. I completely agree that this is the leader of the list.
Good camera quality, good work of the actors involved. It is delight to watch the interaction between the actors adding to the magic of the costumes and surroundings. Every frame takes you into the world and story without deviating from the red thread of the story arc.
To some the movie might be a bit too long. The plot leaves you with a good and genuine feeling of having watched one of Hollywood's best & brightest at work.
