Clinic (2023)
1/10
Ignore the 10 star reviews. It's a stinker
14 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Stripper wants a bigger butt because her colleagues get tipped more. She's refused because of some random immune condition that puts her at risk of complications. Luckily there's a cut price clinic that will give her the buttocks of her dreams. Unluckily for her the woman doing the surgeries is psychotic. Those prepared to endure this thing for an hour are rewarded with her rationale but frankly who cares. A social commentary on the need some women have for cosmetic surgery quickly devolves into a very bad thriller.

The acting ranges from poor to downright awful. Bad script, shonky camera work, cheap effects, there's just nothing redeeming here. Avoid.

Invasion (2021–2024)
3/10
A testament to poor acting and bad writing.
14 October 2023
Have stuck with this well into series 2 but after an initially interesting start this show has devolved into a boring slog. The show dances around the alien invasion and this late into the series I'm still clueless about what's going on. There's too much focus on mysterious signs and clues that have characters flitting around trying to solve rather than action, I mean this is an invasion after all. The writers have made a decision to ignore what's' going on in the world to focus on a truly unlikeable cast of cardboard characters. Golshifteh Farahani, whose only expression is a sort of pained whiny anguish. Firas Nassar, sarcastic billionaire narcissist without a shred of nuance. Meh, I'm rooting for the aliens to take out the lot of them. Hopefully after taking out the writers of this slop first.

Fascinating subject handled very poorly

Ed Gein, often considered the prototypical serial killer before the concept gained widespread recognition, has left an indelible mark on popular culture. His gruesome actions have served as inspiration for numerous movies, shows, and books, most notably contributing to the creation of the Norman Bates archetype.

This series delves into Gein's early life, shedding light on his upbringing and the dynamics with his parents, with a particular focus on his relationship with his mother. However, the narrative takes a somewhat scattered approach, jumping from one intriguing event to another, interspersed with macabre commentary from various bloggers and fanboys. The excessive enthusiasm displayed by these individuals upon hearing Gein's long-lost voice recordings from police interviews can be a bit overwhelming.

Perhaps a more effective approach would have been a dramatization that carefully pieces together the story from its beginnings, allowing the events to unfold without the overshadowing influence of overly exuberant fan perspectives. Not worth it.

Someone actually got paid to write this.
28 July 2023
With writers currently on strike in Hollywood for fear of being replaced by AI, all I can say is bring it on. It's as if someone fed the script into GPT with the command to write an action series for viewers with the IQ of chimps based around Marine girl bosses that make Rambo look like a wimp. Total badass women that just thrive on pain and meter out abuse to men twice their size and multiples their strength. All the characters speak in Oorah cliches, with the exception of the male marines (subordinate to their female counterparts of course) all men are bullies, abusers - especially if their white or Arabs. Even the lead characters husband (in a gender reversed caring role) cops a spray from his entitled mixed raced daughter for being a "white man". I could go on but i've filled the arbitrary word 600 limit.

Watch it for the violence and things being blown up but put your brain in neutral.

Same formula
13 June 2023
There's nothing 'new'or 'revolutionary' in what Channel 7 claims is a 'social experiment where the rules of society don't exist. A bold claim and as usual for these types of shows, utterly untrue.

'The rules of society don't exist?? Sign me up! However if you're thinking this is a real life Squid Game you're in for a major disappointment. This is a cheap bland clone of the American show, with that guy from SAS (which was at least moderately entertaining) looking completely out of place and giving encouragement to a large bunch of randoms looking to win money by emulating trials from Survivor.

Perhaps it's Sevens answer than that God-awful 'Summit' in which a bunch of egotistical randoms compete to win an ever diminishing cash prize all whilst being harrassed by a possessed helicopter. Except this has a few more shirtless buff guys and scantily clad young women.

Whoever writes this garbage should fear the advent of AI scriptwriting. Put your brain into neutral if you're watching this rubbish because it's just a vehicle to fill in the space between ads.

No scifi, but a diverse cast and representation of LGBTQ+ characters
15 April 2023
The chasm between a show like Severance and this bland mess is huge. The characters are unlikeable, the story illogical and the scifi content non-existent. I've struggled through 5 episodes of this but I've had enough. I just don't care about this guy, his annoying wife, idiot brother in law and drunken brother.

The series has apparently "received positive reviews for its diverse cast and representation of LGBTQ+ characters, as well as its exploration of important topics such as sexual health and consent". That explains it.

So if you're interested in the relationship dynamics of some really awful people and don't like scifi, give this a go.

Australia's Got Talent (2007–2022)
1/10
A reboot they shouldn't have bothered with.
10 October 2022
Padding out the talentless Australian judges with 2 judges from the UK show doesn't save this tedious, cheaply produced drivel. Virtue signalling is strong with this one, winners are those with the bigger the sob story or more diverse gender and race. Perhaps Australia does have talent but it's not showcased here.

Free to air TV in this country is really on it's last legs, it's cheaper to produce brainless exploitative junk like Farmer wants a Wife, MAFs, The Block, The Love Boat, Beauty and the Geek etc than it is to make quality Australian drama. These programs are just filler for ad breaks.

A fun take on all the superhero drivel
19 January 2022
It's funny, irreverent and often crude but Cena is enjoyable to watch and the rest of the cast is great. There's a dearth of boring superhero shows and movies but this is twisted enough to be different and enjoyable.

Abysmal
7 April 2021
An obnoxious, ill-mannered and self obsessed 40 year old woman masquerading as a teen boy. It's creepy, repugnant and offensive. As others have mentioned, there's no way a 40 year old man would be playing a teen girl. I tried to watch it for novelty value alone but this drivel is unwatchable.

This film is a continuous nod to the truth that psychedelics reveal
15 October 2020
Even down to the Alan Watts quotes. Our society is a mess, completely disconnected from nature. We're clueless to the fact we are all part of the same thing and delude ourselves in a pointless race to attain meaningless things. If all this means nothing to you then keep an open mind and watch this. There's nothing here that isn't 100% true and it's a welcome breath of fresh air in a world gone completely mad.

PC version of the book.
25 May 2019
This shows skims the surface content of the book and deletes any politically incorrect characters. Amy becomes an older, more articulate and now black girl. Anthony Carter is still black but he's a good looking and intelligent because we can't be having minority groups be portrayed as intellectually challenged and feeble. Unfortunately these changes and a simplistic storyline dumb the plot down for mass consumption.

Absolute unfunny garbage.
19 April 2019
Is your idea of comedy watching an aboriginal woman trying to defaecate on a cushion with a white womans face on it? You'll love this show then because that's the highlight of the last episode. Seriously unfunny, thankfully it won't be back.

don't believe the hype.
14 August 2018
More like a comedy than a thriller. Characters just shrug off mortal wounds like shotgun blasts, when they bleed they hemorrhage liters of red goo in messy trails and bizarre first aid like cauterizing a penetrating wound with a heated beer can renders miracle results. It's like the producers didn't understand how human bodies work. Weird.

Home and Away with aliens
21 July 2018
Recipe for bad Aussie indie scifi. Throw in a cast of B grade soapie stars and vaguely familiar tv faces. Add a weak script, lots of cliched Australian stereotypes and some bad effects. Maybe a few of the cast were hoping to get some overseas exposure but this is awful. 1 star for the scenery.
