Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

40 years later and still legendary

I've heard legends of this movie for years. I've wanted to see it ever since I heard the story of the producer being tried for releasing this film. Somehow this film was hard to find and now, some 40 years after it's release I've finally found a streaming service that shows it.

All I can say is wow, I can really see how this would have been a cutting edge movie back when it was released. It's sick, so sick I'm honestly shocked that this isn't given an x or at least an NC-17 rating. Now, 40 years later it still stands out to me as one of the most twisted, sickening (in a good way) movies ever made. I can only imagine watching this movie during its original release and wondering if the legends of the true killings were actually true, how that must have felt is beyond me. Obviously, they've been proven to be fake but even the thought that people once thought them to be real is enough to turn your stomach.

A masterpiece like this will never be made again but this will do to us to go down as one of the most twisted films ever released.

Antlers (2021)

Didn't live up to expectations

I was really looking forward to this movie. A movie about the Wendigo, a legend that I grew up with. How cool right?

Well, the movie did disappoint. It was slow moving and the whole wendigo story wasn't really told. It left a lot of unanswered questions about the characters and the monster itself. The Wendigo is an indigenous legend of the east coast and Great Lakes region so why they chose Oregon as a setting I have no idea.

I guess it's decent as a typical monster movie but really nothing original or overly exciting in this flick.

Lamb (2021)

Boring, slow moving, not entertaining

Going into this movie I was expecting it to be odd. I'm usually a fan of some odd and off the wall type of movies so was looking forward to this one.

It gets points for originality but that's about it. It is extremely slow moving and there is not much of a story line to keep the audience interested. I found myself looking at my watch just wanting it to end.

Without giving anything away, the ending is decent but it's not worth sitting through a boring hour and a half for a decent ending.

Border Warz (2004 Video)

I want my $1.99 back

Found this blu ray in a $1.99 bin and figured why not? Well I wish I didn't. A waste of even that little money. I'm pretty sure this is some kid's high school film project that they put on a disc and tried to pass it off as a movie. Terrible plot line, terrible acting, and terrible production. A waste of time and money. It would be 1 star but I made it 2 stars since there is a scene with boobs, and really, who doesn't like boobs?

Away (2020)

Missed its potential

I was really excited to see this series streaming as I like to consider myself a bit of a space nerd and follow the space program.

This series' premise makes for a potentially entertaining show but it failed in its many factual errors and unrealistic characters.

There's a scene in the first episode when they are in a space station on the moon. One of the astronauts is seen floating upwards through a doorway. Did these writers not do any fact checking? A simple google search would have told them that the moon isn't a zero G environment and people don't levitate on the moon.

In another scene the Russian puts on a puppet show detailing the first dog put in space. He depicts it as a male dog of a different name than the real dog that went to space. The real dog was a female.

The astronauts are depicted as being completely unprepared for space both emotionally and competently. There is absolutely no way these astronauts would be put into space let alone on a maiden voyage to Mars. The interpersonal issues between them is so unrealistic. Astronauts are trained to withstand personality clashes and even part of the selection is that they are able to get along.

Overall this show really missed the mark. It's somewhat entertaining as a drama but all the factual errors and how unrealistic it is really makes this show a pass for me.

Space Force (2020–2022)

Let's hope for a season 2

Steve Carell stars as the 4 star General in charge of the USA's newly formed Space Force along side his Chief Scientist played by John Malkovich. Carell's character is in charge of putting "boots on the moon" and to create the first livable moon colony all while balancing his family with a teenage daughter and a wife who is prison.

This is a well acted, unique comedy that I thoroughly enjoyed. Carell is excellent in his role but Malkovich truly steals the show and their chemistry together really makes for an entertaining watch.

I can only hope that there's a season 2.

Zombie Night (2013 TV Movie)

Not bad for a B list zombie flick

Everybody giving this film 1 star needs to realize what it is. It's a B list, low budget, cheesy zombie movie and that's what it's intended to be. If you go into it expecting to see an Oscar nominated screenplay with award winning acting then you'll be disappointed. If you go in expecting a cheesy horror flick then you might have some fun watching it.

For what it is it's not a bad flick. Give it a chance, go into it with low expectations and enjoy it for what it is.

The Queen's Gambit (2020)

Great show but show the board

The character development and the premise of the show is great but they don't even show the board during the chess matches. As a chess player myself, it's kind of like a football movie that doesn't actually show the football game, they just show the final play and expect everyone to know what lead up to it. How do we know that that winning towchdown will win the game? We have 2 players facing off in a match but you only see the individual pieces as they play. They should show the actual game of chess as in the entire board. It's kind of hard to build the drama of the match when you can't actually see the pieces in play.

Murdoch Mysteries (2008– )

A fantastic Canadian show

There's usually not too much to be excited about for Canadian TV but Murdoch Mysteries is the exception. I remember watching this show on CBC after school as a teen and kind of forgot about it until I saw that Netflix now has all of the episodes.

Great acting, great story lines and great character development are all present in this show. It's a wholesome show that pretty much any age can watch. It's interesting to see how they incorporate historical figures from the time into the show such as Nicola Tesla and Arthur Conan Doyle. I've only made it through 2 seasons so far but am hooked. A definite binge worthy show.

Up from Slavery (2011 Video)

Informative? Yes. Entertaining? Meh

I watched this whole series. I am a big fan of both history and documentaries so figured this would be a good option. The series provides a very informative account of the history of American slavery but it lacks that entertainment aspect. I feel a good documentary should be both informative and entertaining. The narrator was very monotone throughout. It feels like something the teacher would put on back in high school history class when they don't want to teach the class themselves.

Don't watch sober

I watched the first 3 episodes sober and figured what is this crap? I blazed before the last three episodes and it turned it into an amazing show! In short, if you watch it sober it will suck, if you watch it stoned it's pretty damn good.

For the Win (2017– )

Unlikeable host

This show has a really good concept and seems like it would be interesting. It's a guy travelling around the country trying new and obscure sports. It's cool to see the different sports but the host is just so unlikable. He comes off as so arrogant and I just couldn't stand him. If there was another host it could be a good show but with this guy it just doesn't work.

The Legend of Cocaine Island (2018)

Enjoyable

I quite enjoyed this mockumentary. I went into it unsure if it was a real documentary or a spoof and after watching it it is obviously a spoof. Nobody is that dumb right , also I'm pretty sure Puerto Rico is in the United States so there's no need to smuggle drugs, could've boarded a domestic flight without any need for customs! The characters are entertaining and funny. The only one I didn't like was the wife but overall it was a very fun movie to watch.

Natural Born Pranksters (2016)

Wanna be jackass

Let me start by saying I've never heard of these guys before watching this movie, unlike many of the other reviews so I had no expectation going in. There was one time I laughed when he farted in the car window but that was the only time. It sure seems that most if not all of these pranks are fake. They are trying too hard to be like jackass and it doesn't work at all. I'm a huge fan of Dave England and it amazes me that he would appear in a "movie" such as this garbage. I watched it for free so thankfully I didn't pay anything, but I did lose over an hour of my life watching this junk that I want back. Save your time folks, a waste of time to watch.
