Her (2013)

Beautiful, brilliant, genuine, poignant and soulful !!!

In one word this movie is amazingly brilliant !!! Though a science fiction movie, the love and emotions are pure and raw. Right from the start you are pulled into the core of the movie, love, whichever way it is, you cannot escape the pull. Joaquin was pure delight to watch, oozing the love for Samantha is so touching and genuine. You could not but just avoid seeing Scarlett as Samantha, with a beautiful voice back over her abilities and inabilities are visually palpable. Amy Adams though a short and limited screen space was sweet as friend. Spike Jonze has taken a simple story in a brilliant fashion. All the while I was thinking "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" as one of the movie that can glue me to the screen, now I have a second choice !!!!

Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012)

Not at his best !!!!

After the amazing VTV , NEP had a great expectation among his fans and many others who detest Gautam style of movie making. Thanks to the inclusion of the Maestro in the team which made many to give this flick a try. But coming to the movie did it live to all its pre-release hype ??? I doubt it !!!!! There was something fundamentally missing in the movie since it started. Romantic flick depends on moments of love, which was lost in most part of the movie. Agreed there are misunderstandings among the couple, but come on give us a break !!!! It seems Gautam directed with this tubular vision, misunderstanding and ego clash builds up the relation. I was waiting for some yearning moments which happened in some set pieces, but there is no connecting thread between these set pieces. All I could see is Varun and Nithya coming together and moving apart and the reason, well you don't need a hard hitting reason for break up, but at least some poignant moments which we could empathize for the couple. The way in which he shot certain sequences was commendable, like the pre-interval break up, it was almost 5-6 min without any break or take, but here also the camera was moving up and down, with no chance of seeing the protagonist emotions. Both Jeeva and Samantha did justice to their portrayal of Varun and Nithya, but that could not sustain till the very end of the movie. Samantha was amazing, probably this could be her best till date, especially the sisters wedding scene !!! Jeeva was grim in all the scene, may be thats what the director has expected of him !!!! And songs, there is no doubts about the quality of the songs which was already a chart buster but the BGM was not the maestros best. This review might seem to be biased to many Gautam fans based on the popular view of the movie in the general public, but being an ardent fan of Gautam Vasudeva Menon I had great expectations from him in this movie, probably that could also be a reason for me getting disappointed after seeing it All I could say is NEP lacked the charm, warmth and heart which was in abundance in VTV. After seeing NEP I came back and saw VTV twice that night to savor the romance !!! Finally a word, there was a magic moment in all his earlier venture be it Kakha Kakha, Minnale or VTV, but that moment was sorely missing in NEP !!!!

Raavan (2010)

Visually pleasing

Well by this time many would have watched this movie either in Tamil, Telugu or Hindi, but did Raavan or Ravanan lived to its expectation???? Thats a big Q !!!!!!! Frankly saying this is not Manis best movie. Each time his movie comes the expectation is sky high, but all his movies lived up to it. But with Raavan one cannot say it. The plot seems to be a very thin line, but with such a huge talented star cast, the movie could have been much better. Its not fair enough to say that this his best or worst, cos each of his movies is a yardstick on its own as all his movies are of different genre. Watch Raavan with an open mind, do not look for Ram alone in the movie cos u may be deceived. Its a visual treat from start till end, Mani is a genius, with the right team he has extracted the best from his crew, but still, when u walk out of the hall there is something in the movie ponders you. Is it the Ram or Raavan? Good or Evil???? Above all did the director achieve his target? Watch this movie in the hall or else u will miss the depth of the visuals which is absolutely breathtaking.

Awesome !!!!

Well frankly saying it is a ten year wait to watch a full length romantic movie after ALAIPAYUTHE being released. Great work Gautam,the movie is very close to heart with no added ingredients.The movie is pure and simple, and the narration is excellent. It may not be the usual stuff with comedy and fights, but still its worth a watch more than once. The lead pair is terrific, with Simbu in a new avatar, a territory which he has never charted. Trisha is amazing as Jessie, many will fall in love for her after this movie. Definitely, this move can be one of their best performance till date. ARR is amazing as usual, the BGM and the songs are awesome. At many part u would be dragged into the movie unknowingly.Of course the movie has other routine Gautam stuff. Though it may not be convincing to everyone, but still all those who watch the movie will have one moment in the movie which will be close to them, if that is so then, the mission of the director is achieved. I would recommend this movie for all you people who waited for a romantic piece. A final word, Gautam should we wait for another 10 years for another romantic movie?

Kaminey (2009)

mind blowing should i say. after a brilliant direction of omkara, what best u can expect from vishal? Kaminey is a roller coaster ride from the start till the end, though there are lots of knots in the movie, over the second half u are at the edge of the seat.......WHATS NEXT ?????? the sequence of events in the second half and the racy screenplay with a top notch cinematography makes u stuck to the seat.shaid is at his best.did not expect that priyanka chopra can act this well. everyone has done justice to their given role be the local politician or the police or the gangster, no flaws. the movie is a real worth for the money or more the money, and its a must watch.HATS OFF TO VISHAL FOR GIVING SUCH A WONDERFUL MOVIE. FLENDID !!!!!!!!!!!!

the movie was good in all aspects. though one can say the movie was slow in pace, but that itself was a beauty to the movie. the various ethos of the people of chandini chowk( though shot in Sambar), was candidly shown.all the characters were beautifully woven, that at the end it was a real beauty to watch. the camera work is brilliant especially the jam ma masjid one( also dil gira gaftan editing style). rakesh was brilliant enough to capture fun,anger, hatred and love all in 2 hrs and some 15 odd minutes. watch for the kalabhandar and abishek , both go together very well. though people say that RDB was his best it would be imprudent to compare both. RDB would have been a hard hitting patriotic movie said in Gen X style, this is a movie which makes us think about simple thing in life, love towards each other. watch Delhi 6 without any preconceived idea, you will love it.

I may be late to comment about this brilliant movie, but i do not want to miss the opportunity to write about my all time favorite movie. Four things go hand in hand with the movie, direction, acting, music & cinematography. Direction - no words can praise the brilliant work done by Mani. He stands apart from his contemporary. One gets a doubt whether its a social movie or a sensitive love story. A thin line separates it. Also the director is so perfect that even the minute details are taken care of ( e.g. train in chhaiya chhaiya, Preeti's wedding dress, to name some).Someone must be bold enough to touch a topic & a territory as he has done. Acting - SRK & Manisha have essayed their finest performance of their lifetime. Be it the romantic interlude or the strange encounter in station every frame is worth watching( watch out the engagement party & final encounter of Amar & Megna). Both have given their best to the character they have donned. Music - Rahman is a real genius. Sometimes u are scared. Sometimes you are taken to Ladakah. Sometimes you are fallen in love. Sometimes you pity for the couple. And most of the times you are spellbound. Rahman has crafted each and every song in a different way, you don't find any song similar to other. Listen to the title & end credits you are sure to be mesmerized. Photography - no wonder why sivan has got so many awards to his credits.Cinematography speaks for itself, be it the jungles of Assam, or the valleys of Ladhak, or the streets of Delhi. You believe what u see. Not to forget the lighting he has used. To put it overall DILSE may not be the best movie of all time, but it is one of the best movie India has produced, which one can proudly say. Watch Dilse for the fine performance of SRK & Manisha. Watch Dilse for the eye catching picturisation. Watch Dilse for its mesmerizing music. watch Dilse for the brilliant direction in an uncharted territory. Watch Dilse for its sheer excellence of the movie itself.
