Salvation! (1987)
10/10
Great, Facinating, Darkly Comedic Expose' On Extreme Right-Wing Religion
7 November 2003
I saw this movie during it's first theatriacal release in 1987. I must admit, my main purpose for going was to see Exene Cervenka act in a film, as I had only previously know her as the lead singer from the alternative-punk rock band "X". This movie is simply fantastic. It holds no punches when it comes to busting open the facade of hate disguised as love, exposing the backstabbing bigotry so often found hiding behind the snow white veil of Christianity. Personally, I found it's message to be profoundly funny, yet sadly truthful at the same time. A very unique work, indeed. I highly recommend this film to any and all people who are not afraid to open their minds in order to take a look at the side of Christianity no one wants to acknowledge or talk about. I believe you'll find it very rewarding.

The movie, written by Beth B. and Tom Robinson and also directed by Beth B. herself, is a true work of art. I look forward to the day this film is made available on DVD for the world to see. The material focused on is medicine the United States could definitely use RIGHT NOW!

Urbania (2000)
Highly Recommended!

I just caught "Urbania" on IFC. What a terrific surprise! I had no idea this film even existed.

"Urbania" is one of those rare films that grabs you by the back of the neck and holds holds you hostage until the final credits. It's as if one were shadowing the lead character as he plays out the fate of a lonely and harrowing night, facing demons of circumstance as well as a few monsters he creates himself.

Watching this film, I felt as if I was being forced to examine some disturbing sides of life when all I wanted to do was turn my head and look another direction. Much like driving upon a tragic car accident, it's hard not to stare but, by the brute force of some macabre fascination that lives deep in the human psyche, one feels compelled to do just that.

While "Urbania" is a tragedy, the content is handled with a sense of grace and humility. During the final frames, one is left with a feeling of relief and healing, although tainted with the bitterness of loss.

The direction, screenplay and style of "Urbania" is superb. The acting is fantastic. This film is a must see!

Wild at Heart (1990)
10/10
This Movie ROCKS!!!

In making "Wild At Heart", David Lynch has given us a diamond in the rough. The casting is nothing short of perfect. Nicholas Cage, Laura Dern, Diane Ladd, Willem Dafoe and Sherilyn Fenn give solid, electrifying performances. The supporting members of the cast supply a gritty backdrop allowing this fantastic adventure to come to life.

Rarely do you see a film when the moods, sounds, colors and scenery alone play such a vivid and vital part of the completed work. This film is true magic. It allows the viewer to experience a world full of decadence, beauty, anger, love and betrayal without actually having to take stock in it. I say this knowing that if the events in "Wild At Heart" were a part of your reality, you would definitely want to hide your red lip stick and keep a safe distance.

Uh... What can I say?
17 January 2003
"Exorcist II: The Heretic" (1977) was at least entertaining enough to make me sit through an entire viewing. However, it is DEFINITELY the weakest film in the trilogy. I found Burton's performance to be just shy of completely absurd, which, in turn, made the role somewhat satisfying in a very unusual way. Blair's return to the role of Regan shows that, without the special effects and make-up, there was never much to her to begin with. It was the spectacle of "The Exorcist" that made Regan disturbing, exciting and spooky. You will find none of these qualities here.

I recommend this movie simply because it looks like hard work and a little elbow grease were put behind it. And, every once in a while, it shows.

Very Scary...Boo...

This movie is great, all-American spooky fun! The story line was terrific, and the casting was perfect. There's nothing like a good horror flick, an icy cold soft drink and a great big bowl of popcorn. "Jeepers Creepers" definitely provides the horror. But, you'll have to make your own popcorn and supply your own soda-pop. Now, I have to go find my night light.
