Frost/Nixon (2008)
Great performance of Frank Langella
First I have to say that i'm a German and way too young to have seen the interviews, which means that I didn't had a good knowing of the historical circumstances. Nevertheless I really enjoyed the movie, which describes the interviews between British talk show-master David Frost and former US-President Richard Nixon in 1977 and the events which eventually led to these interviews.
The best part of the movie is without question Frank Langella's performance as Richard Nixon. As Nixon he is unbelievable convincing and even resembles him physically in a striking way. He really gives you a good idea how Nixon was, even if you don't know much about him. Another plus-factor is that Langella doesn't act too over the top as Nixon. He really embodies Nixon and isn't some flat caricature of him. On the other side there's Martin Sheen's Frost. Don't get me wrong Sheen delivers an excellent performance - perhaps the best of his career - but in contrast to Langella he just seems a little pale. Though considering that Nixon is a lot more powerful character to play it's quite understandable that Langella appears more convincing.
The rest of the movie is well done with a good direction by Ron Howard for whom I'm glad that he doesn't only direct stuff like The Da Vinci Code etc. The pace of the movie is well executed but a little bit too conservative in terms that Howard doesn't differ from the usual story line telling formula.
Overall it can be said that the great performance by Langella adds real excellence to an good movie.

Drillbit Taylor (2008)
Great Actors = Great Movie
Call me immature or whatever but I have to say that I'm huge fan of all the Judd-Apatow-Movies, so I'm maybe a little biased here.
Owen Wilson as a shabby veteran is just great actor and the three High-School kids who are getting chased by a mad-dog of a bully are just as good as him. The movie is very hilarious (just check the scene with Frank Whaley in it)but heart-warming at the same time. And a huge plus (at least for me): It's not too sentimental as many comedies tend to be. Apatow and his crew just manage always to find a good ending, full stop!
So enjoy this movie with your friends or your family or with with whom ever you like to watch a decent comedy!
Righteous Kill (2008)
Close but no cigar
First: I really enjoyed this movie and I'm not going to lament over how 'disrespectful' etc. the two leading actors, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, were two me, because they behaved younger then they actually are and all that stuff that has been said about this. So much for this. Personally I thought the whole plot was very exciting and kept me most of the time on the edge of my seat. De Niro and Pacino acted fine as ever and were supported by a good supporting cast like Carla Gugino from Sin City and 50 Cent. The plot itself with the 'vengeful good man killing the bad people'-stuff wasn't that fresh but believable executed and fitted great in to make the viewer really believe that De Niro is the killer. My only complaint is the not very surprising twist with Pacino being the killer. It was very obvious in that last scene and I must shamefully admit that even De Niro being still the killer would've surprised me more.
But eventually it's a good movie and a great ending is hard to find in most of the movies.
So 8/10 Stars!
The Simpsons: The Girl Who Slept Too Little (2005)
Lame ... again
You know, it's all over town, but the new Simpsons episodes, aren't really funny. This episode started very funny, but then... it was just a bit of a yawn. A very childish plot with Lisa, who is afraid of the cemetery right next to them, but then gets over her fear and everybody's happy... the same old stuff. These aren't the Simpsons i once fell in love with. I give this episodes five stars, because of the very funny opening scene i mentioned above: 'Make War not Stamps' is really a good joke. After i very useless cameo from Maurice Sendak the author of 'Where the wild things are' and an unfunny parody of this book the end is quickly reached and i was really happy when i saw the credits. Please stop such episodes!
