Keep clear,a wave of boredom cometh
18 January 2022
Boring, slooooow, uneventful, incredible that it lasted 100 minutes. No plot,no script,a weak reminiscence of the author's childhood. The only worthwhile thing is Van Morrison's soundtrack.

Pure soft core porn. Barely watchable,I managed three episodes. The script is awful, acting amateurish, dialogues fake. Dont waste your time.

lame to the point of being lethal

I have nothing against propaganda movies, but if you wanna do it, do it right. Everything here is crappy, the plot, the script, the acting, in spite of a solid cast. I otherwise like William Hurt, but his accent here - quasi British-Soviet, a big bad joke. Lee Marvin often looks as if he wonders - what the hell am I doing here. And finally - the sables? What the hell was that all about. All in all - terrible.

Brilliant

Anthony Hopkins at his best! The perspective of the movie is extraordinary, an exceptionally original approach to the subject. Recommending it wholeheartedly.

good story

But Mr. Redford dragged it a bit too long. Guess it was a mark of that time, when life was slower in general. It has all elements of a good drama, with brilliant roles of Tim Hutton and Mr. Sutherland. Still it should have been more interesting. The roles of Coach, Elizabeth McGovern and other supporting roles were somehow left unsaid, two dimensional

ah, the breaths...

Warning: Spoilers
I simply cannot fathom how this got to be nominated for 7 Oscars, this is pure razzie material. The film is absolutely ghastly. Bullock spends half of the movie panting, scared, panting, scared, breathless, scared. No wonder Clooney died...Just couldn't take it anymore. Anyhow, avoid for the sake of good taste and your time.

just plain bad

Hard to find a good way to start this review, Mike Flanagan just seems to be lost in here among all those flashbacks. You feel like you're in a crazy elevator going up/down all the time. The impression is that they tried really hard to stretch the show to 10 episodes, while they could've done it in 4. The storyline is butchered and again, like in some of his previous work filled with lame cliches. I mean, is there a single darn flash light that ever works, c'mon man! A bit about the acting - the performance of Kate Siegel goes from worse to beyond, and goes to show that nepotism just doesn't work. All in all, the story had potential, should've kept the focus on the house at the beginning of the story

I sure regretted watching this

Warning: Spoilers
Watching this movie made me write this review. It is hard to write something without using foul language. Everything was absolutely terrible starting from the cast, dynamics of the movie, the plot...just awful. The main character lakes any kind of judgment, logics, elementary reasoning. The villain on the other hand seems to have some sort of supernatural powers as he seems to be unaffected by any of the serious wounds that strike him during the movie. It was cliched, with elements of Halloween and Scream, but much more poorly done. Avoid at all costs!

Brilliant in every way

Starting from the story, acting, mood, everything in this movie is excellent. Especially the smaller parts were brilliant, John Turturro's role, John Malkovich's all Oscar worthy. Ed Norton is of course at his finest hour A must see!

incoherent

Expected much more from Viggo Mortensen, in spite of his directorial debut. Too many flashbacks, skipping through time, the dynamics is interrupted to often and hard to follow. Also too many cliches. The performances are also unconvincing where Mortensen is sort of underacting, and Lance Henriksen is way over acting. In a word - disappointing
