Cidade de Deus (2002)
Life on the wrong side of the tracks
This movie is amazing in the way that it shows how corruption in government and the police effect the lives of ordinary people. Anyone of us in comfortable 1st world countries should be thankfull that we are not living under a goverment that is foolish enough to create a "City of God". Amazing well acted, filmed and written.
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
A sad end
I'm another huge Star Trek fan but this one just stank! Boring, boring boring. I will still keep seeing the movies but pray they are better tan one. Bring on a voyage movie...................Next Gen has had it's day
Crackerjack (2002)
Typical but good
A fairly typical Australian movie where the underdog saves the day inspite of himself. I guess there is no real reason to see this pic if you have seen "The Castle" or "The Dish". It still leaves you with a positive feeling at the end and it as good or better than most Hollywood stuff.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
Better than Usual
A much better than expected sequal of a sequal. The production vaules were hihgher than normal and Jamie Lee Curtis is cool. Interesting to see Josh Harnet looking so young (and not as good looking). Another sequal ia about to open here in Australia....How will they do it after Michaels head went rolling down the hill?
The Banger Sisters (2002)
old times,new times
This movie was good, but, as others have said, a little lightweight. Such talented actors as Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn could have been put to much better use. Geoffery Rush's charactor also seem undeveloped and maybe there just to make up the numbers.
Australian Rules (2002)
Brilliant
An amazing movie very different from the usual Australian "Feel good" movie. It is great to see a film that comments on contemporary relations between Black and White Australia - Showing faults on both sides. This film deserved a much larger audience than it got but I guess everyone was too busy watching Spiderman.
Bend It Like Beckham (2002)
cultural transgressions
This film is great I had seen other films by the same director but was put off by a film about soccer. The sport does not play too much a part of the film and the comments about the migrant experience in Britain are funny and interesting.
