Les misérables (2000)
OK... What the hell was that?!
First of all, I have seen only some parts of the last episode and also some small parts of other episodes (more then it deserves). I also read the novel. Where shall I start? The writing is just horribly ridiculous and unrealistic (for example: Valjean tells Cosette that Marius was wounded in the barricade, and all she seems to care about is that Valjean finally accepted him), the acting of ALL the actors, except for the guy who portrays Gillenormand, is terrible (especially John Malkovich as Javert and Depardieu (spl?) as Valjean, with his one face expression), the characters have turned into something very weird (Valjean is in love with Cosette?! 'Ponine sleeps with Marius?! Cosette turns into a spoiled brat who wants to dance?! I'm sure that Hugo is turning in his grave...), the whole thing is full of plot holes (Gavroche never ages, the Thenardiers wearing nice cloths, Javert hears the "Vive la republic" and does nothing) and why the hell is Gavroche Marius' best friend?! and 'Ponine tells the gang to rob Cosette's house? and why do everyone call her "'Ponine" for God sakes?! This is probably because their source materials were the musical and some sick fanfiction. This is probably the worst adaptation I've ever seen. The only good thing I can think of is the setting and the costumes (and Gillenormand, who usually is kept out of adaptations).
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
One of the best movies I've ever seen
There's no one than Peter Jackson who can translate this wonderful trilogy to a great movie. Everything just look how it has to be.
The acting is marvelous. Especially The Fellowship. The only actors that bother me were Elijah Wood(Frodo), Liv Tyler(Arwen), and Orlando Bloom(Legolas). The three just killed their roles in some way. I hated Elijah facial expressions, and Orlando and Liv just there to look beautiful, the all three just act awful. I don't think they have to give so much credit to Legolas and Arwen, because in the book-trilogy that character do nothing at all. But Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Christopher Lee as Saruman, and the others were just great.
The soundtrack was awesome. They captured the atmosphere of Middle Earth and the characters really well. I liked the most the themes for The Fellowship, The Shire and Rivendell.
The story was also captured really well. Except for the changes. I hated when Arwen became a Super Woman and saved Frodo and do many things in the other films of the trilogy. This is clear it has to be for all the whiny feminists out there, that want a Super Woman to relate to. But I don't understand why: there's is Eowyn in the Two Towers, but they didn't make the role bigger than it was in the books(maybe a little). But the story itself well captured. I liked the "competition" between Aragorn and Boromir, and how they shown the relationship between the Hobbits. The Elves(except Arwen and Legolas), the Hobbits and the Orcs were shown very well, too.
The Filming Location is the perfect place to portrait Middle Earth. The views were beautiful, and the set was just awesome(especially Rivendell).
In addition, despite all the flaws this is a great movie. Fans of the books and those who haven't read them, can enjoy this films. It helps to read the books first, so you can enjoy even more.
American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
Worst show ever
How such a shallow and pathetic show can succeed so much? Making fun of people that look weird and build a career to talentless shallow people like Kelly Clarckson, has nothing to do with music. This show kills music. And it got 5.0 stars here! This thing should get a ZERO! The funny thing is that just people who look good, can win it. The massage this show tries to tell is: just ignorant shallow and, of course BEAUTIFUL people can be what they call "singers". This is painful to watch. Reality-junk TV show like this should get canceled, I can't believe this show still runs, when there are many other good shows out there that get canceled. Don't waste your time on this thing. Just a recommendation.
Step Up 2: The Streets (2008)
Cliché of the Clichés
I saw this movie with my class today. I never saw "Step Up"(the first one), but when I see a clichéd movie, I can recognize it. The story begins with a middle class girl called Andie-Who-Is-Motherless-And-Talented and her friends which are street dancers. Of course, Andie, who is nice and modest but full of talent in dancing, is getting into "art academy"(or whatever it was) and meet a Nerd-But-Talented-Guy-Who-Likes-"Cool"-Music with a really long name that calls himself "Moose"(sp?). Of course they became friends. Then, to make it more clichéd, she meets the Cool-Talented-Sexy-Guy, and at that moment I can bet they would end up together. Then we get to see the Cool-Beautiful-Girl-Who-Is-Really-Talented that wants the Cool-Talented-Guy. Of course our sweet heroine will have a CatFight with her on the Cool-Talented-Guy. And then, the teacher who is Taugh-But-Professional helps our Andie. Most of the kids in my class saw this movie before, so at the last second of the lesson, they wanted to fast forward and see the cool dance at the end. Then, we saw Andie orate about nonsense to a bunch of boys and girls about street dancing. In short, another wannabe realistic and clichéd film. A waste of time.
Blackadder II (1986)
the best of Blackadder!
This might be the best season of the Blackadder series! First of all, Baldrick isn't as smart as in the first season, and it fits him better. Edmund is not as stupid as in the first season, and that gives us a lot of sarcastic lines, which are extremely funny and witty. The Queen (which is called by all the fans "Queenie") is really cruel, but in a funny way. Percy is also funnier than in the first season. Nursey was quiet weird, but it doesn't matter much. The only thing which was bad in this season is Lord Flesheart, which I found really annoying, but he's in only one episode. And now, the best of all is... the Balladeer! The idea of making a balladeer laughing at Edmund is just brilliant! And his songs are very funny. Greatest Blackadder season!
