Christmas Belle (2013)
Could have been better.
While an obvious take on the old Beauty and the Beast story (complete with a dog named Beast), this film has all the romantic heat of a lump of lead. The two leads, Isabella "Belle" and Hunter, have absolutely no chemistry and are pretty flat all the way around. The background music is mostly piano, with a bit of other orchestration, and it is so loud and so boring that it needs its own listing in the credits just so we know what to avoid in future films. Instead of helping the film and supporting the story, the way good background music is supposed to, it makes the scenes drag and nearly drowns out the dialog.
Christmas on the Farm (2021)
Cut-Rate Christmas in Connecticut
While immediately calling to mind Christmas in Connecticut, Christmas on the Farm leaves a lot to be desired. The "romance" falls flat, with not nearly enough time passing to engender the love professed by the end. The accents were irregular, "American" accents having decided Australian undercurrents. While the film had potential, it never reached it. Violet, the neighbor girl, and the rooster are easily the most entertaining of the characters, closely followed by David and Miles, who manage to be interesting, despite falling heavily on some tired gay stereotypes. Christmas on the Farm ends up trying hard, but not hard enough.
