Great fun for an eight year old.

I saw this serial in 1945 at the Fox Egyptian Theater in San Diego. The scene of the Purple Monster taking off in his rocket ship in the last chapter was forever engraved into my mind. It was great fun a few years ago to see the serial again. I was amazed at how many people who were killed appeared again and again, plus that ford convertible that was crashed a few times had 9 lives.

I have seen a color poster of the Purple Monster, and the alien is dressed in a red costume with gold trim. In the black and white movie of course he is black and silver; perhaps they should have called him the Art Deco Monster.

Kind of entertaining until the end

This is definitely a comedy, and much better if you watch it with closed caption with the sound turned off. The female lead is from Russia and learned English as a second language, which is great, but I don't think she understands some of the dialog she has to speak. No doubt, it has to be explained to her, which is why it is more enjoyable to read the captions and not listen to her. It was an OK movie until the end, sometimes I think they make movies and have no idea on how to end it, so they just make up something and shoot it.

Vertigo (1958)
Wonderful to kind of odd.

When I first saw this movie, way back when, I was fascinated by Kim Novak. Such a beautiful cultured woman. The girl of any college boy's dreams. Well so on goes the movie until near the end when Kim Novak was shown as being nothing but an office worker that was paid to do a job. Just unbelievable that she was actually capable of acting the beautiful cultured woman when she turns out to really be a ditzy blonde, that sort of killed the movie for me.

After seeing the movie recently, the only thing I can comment on is why did make up give her those hairy 1950 Barbie doll eyebrows?

Shallow Hal (2001)
A movie to remember

If this movie is so bad, why are so many taking the trouble to leave comments on it? Obviously, it grows on you, expecially if you see it several times on cable.

I thought the fat suit and makeup were terrible, Rosemary looked like something out of a melted wax museum. They had two different women play Rosemay's mom, they should have done that with Rosemary since her fat scenes were not that numerous and they used a body double for distance or scenes from the back. It was very touching to see all the people change, and see what they really looked like near the end, not only the hospital scene but the restaurant and going away party scenes. It was especially funny to see that Rosemary's father still looked exactly the same.
