Fortnite (2017)
Why Fortnite is my favorite Battle Royale game...
Through out my gaming career I've played and enjoyed plenty online shooter. To be fair I haven't played Apex Legends, but every other popular battle royale I have played. PUBG, Warzone, Minecraft Hunger Games and H1Z1. Everyone of them I've enjoyed and played regularly at some point. I just love battle royale games. I like the survival and shooter aspect. I like the freedom in the playing approach and I love the challenge/skill factor, the thrill in a fight when it comes down to either me or the other player. And every game I've mentioned so far mets these requirements and is definitely not a bad game.
But there is one unmistakably standing out from the mass of battle royale games. One game that I personally had the most entertaining and exciting gaming moments with friends ever. One that has the highest skill ceiling I've ever seen in an online shooter. One game that since realease never stopped developing creatively and as a result shaped pop culture many times. Of course I'm talking about Fortnite. The game I always returned to and I have played longer then all other battle royales combined.
Why is that?
If I could only mention one argument, I would say "because it never gets boring". You can say about the design of the game that you do not like it or whatever, but you can not say it ever lacked variety or ran out of ideas. From bizarre and entertaining new items, weapons or gamemodes, a constantly evolving game world with a story you could literally talk about for hours all the way to a roblox like creative mode in which thousands of mini-games, death-runs and training worlds have been created by players for players. Since 2017 epic games constantly makes new content for us users and that's why it never got boring for me. Unlike other online shooters.
The second big difference in comparison to it's genre partners consists of the extremely challenging building system. In almost ever other shooter you mainly have to improve your aim and movement to master the game. And while that is also a the case in Fortnite, the developers created a third skill aspect. By constructing and editing building parts, one is able to use a truly innovative and challenging combat technique that is unique and incomparable in online games (yes, it is not comparable to Minecraft). Even the own player base needed years to figure out and use it's true potential. 6 years ago it almost felt like playing a different game. The best Fortnite players invested thousands of hours in mastering their building mechanics to a point where they a undeniably untouchable for the average player. Being good in "building" means having an enormous control over the game and being able to play with a dynamic incomparable to other shooter games. You can control the match outcome by your skill like in no other battle royale and as a normal player you will probably never stop improving. And that is why I kept enjoying it over the last 6 years.
In my opinion the game is massively underrated and misunderstood as a simple game for kids. It is wrongly frownd upon. I will probably never stop having fun with the game and I hope I was able to make my reasons for this understandable. (sorry for my english, I'm german)
Der Tatortreiniger (2011)
Expect it to be entertaining and fascinating...
"Der Tatortreiniger" is definitely one of the most interesting and fascinating shows I have ever seen and with a rating of 8.5/10 it is still underrated. When I read the reviews here on IMDB, people were often just talking about the comedy factor of this show, but I love this show primarily because it is so entertaining. Is it funny? Undoubtedly. But that is not where the show focuses on.
With almost every episode you get to see a completely new facet of society and humankind. The extremely well played protagonist "Heiko Schotte" here by represents the viewers perspective ,as average middle class citizen, exploring the entirely new world shown every crime scene. This is where the show shines at: Presenting us the inherent different lifes of mankind in an unbelievably interesting and easy watchable way for us as audience. Through that the series often arises philosophical, political and morality questions without ever answering these utterly and leaving the viewer, who just gained a new perspective on life, fascinated and pondering. The very relatable comedy mostly comes up when "Schotty's" is been confronted and perplexed with and by the new topic presented in the episode.
As an anthology series you can always jump right into it and will be (almost ever time) fantastically entertained. Ultimately I think it is one of the best shows ever created and if I could give half stars I would rate it 9.5 out of 10.
Drive (2011)
A good movie, but nothing impersive
I liked drive. It's an easy watchable movie. The action is well staged, the actors are great and the plot is exciting.
But the wohle thing is lacking drama. Ryan Gosling as protagonist is too reserved and seems not invested in his character. There is not enough trouble for Ryan and his friends because the antagonists don't seem and are not dangerous enough to build a certain level of tension I would have preferred. With the title "Drive" the movie missleads the audience because it has to little to offer in this regard.
But still, it is a good movie. Nothing more just good 7 out of 10. Something to watch on weekend afternoons.
