The Quiet Earth (1985)
All Things Apocolyptic
I loved it, and I don't say that lightly. It's similar to "The World, The Flesh, and the Devil" with Harry Belefonte, Ingrid Bergman, and Mel Ferrer (forgive any misspellings). But what most people don't know is that the World, Flesh, and Devil movie is based on a 1901 book called "The Purple Cloud", by M. P. Shiel. In that book, too, there's only one guy left in the world until... I won't spoil any of the foregoing fore you.
Re: "The Quiet Earth", I loved the premise; first he's amazed, then stunned, then seemingly acceptant, then suicidal, then acceptant again, then...
I could write so much more, as some have done, but I'x rather you just watch the movie(s).

Yes, but...
I don't care what the nay-sayers are saying. Did they apply objectivity? Or were their thoughts ruled by subjectivity? Is the movie far-fetched? Possibly. But maybe the critics didn't notice it's an example of cold hard reason vs caring emotion? Or, perhaps they failed to notice the dark bureaucracy vs the ever-present humanity of living life in that kind of environment and the stress that that would cause? And lastly, it's very likely the detractors of this short but effective movie failed to pick up on the fact that (aside from the one commercial snuck into it) it's a professionally-made 43 minutes and 30 seconds long, uninterrupted, unedited scene?
