The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Style over substance
This movie puts the onus on the viewer to be current on all things Sopranos and decide to engage themselves, it does not do the work to draw the viewer in, relying too much on name recognition of previous characters as younger versions of themselves.
There is little in the way of character introduction (and there are a LOT of characters) ... When so many are introduced, it's hard to care.
It's very stylish, but this is style over substance. If I wasn't a Sopranos fan I'd be even more bored and would have turned it off.
Hostage (2005)
Definitelt worth seeing.
Hostage is the best Book I have ever read ... So I both excited and apprehensive about seeing the film.
I saw the Film last night, an I enjoyed it. Although it didn't stay true to the book in a number of key places (but what film does), it was still pretty close.
Operning Credits were excellent, with the animation being representative of the live scene that it eventually transformed to, but that was kinda to be expected since the Director had mainly worked on Directing Video Games before (Splinter Cell Series).
All in all, I can't really find fault with the film, its not going to win any big Oscars, but its definitely worth seeing.
Laser Mission (1989)
So bad ...... Its brilliant !
This film is Hilarious.
The Budget was so small that they had to re-use extras repeatedly. There's this one guy who stands out like a sore thumb,
(He's a Black Guy with huge Yellow front teeth), I counted him in the film 22 times, with Brandon Lee killing him 18 of those times !
Editing is the worst I have ever seen .......
Bad guy called: "Col. Kalishnakov" ......
Ernest Borgnine as a German, who speaks with a Russian acent.....
Majority of the crew have never worked on another film.....
This would be brilliant to show in Film School's, for what not to do.
This film is so terribly bad, that its actually Brilliant !
I WAS drunk the first time I saw it, so I laughed more, even still though - You gotta see this film.
Intermission (2003)
A Clever story makes a great film
The scene before the starting credits will make you sit up and realise that you are about to see something special.
Its an excellently written story, and the cast all do a great job.
Being from Dublin, its probably much easier for me to appreciate the
film, it will be interesting to see how foreign audiences take to it. There's a lot of Dublin slang in the dialog, but you'll get used to it quite soon, much in the same way as the London Slang in "Lock Stock...".
The film itself follows 4 distinct storylines that are all intertwined to eachother, leaving a sense of satisfaction with how everything
ties together.
Its very funny and very cool, to call it an Irish version of
"Lock, Stock and two smoking Barrells" is the biggest complement I can give this film.
