The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself (2022)

One of the Better Netflix Shows

For me Netflix has been pretty boring this year, I would go onto the app looking for something to watch and get bored and leave but this show surprised me.

The Premise looked good and it was great.

The Premise is about a world where there are witches ( not like Harry Potter but like Marvel Characters i.e. Ice powers, fire power etc. ) and when you turn 17 you get a power. In this world you are either a Fairborn Witch ( Good Witch ) or a Blood Witch ( Bad Witch ). Nathan the Main Protagonist struggles with him possibly being a Blood Witch as the two types of witches have conflict.

I really Enjoyed it ( Binged it in Two days ), The CGI is alright not bad but not amazing and decent special effects. I find that when watching you can tell which character's powers they put more work into i.e. A character named Annalise has a really awesome looking power, not going to say what she does but I think it was the coolest power in the series ( it's very over-powered ).

They also teased a possible season two so I hope it does happen.

Defiantly Recommend.

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)

An Absolute Masterpiece

This movie was so good. The story, visuals, sound. By far one of the best movies i've watched in 2022.

Story: The Story progression of Kill Bill was really smooth, it never left me feeling bored ever. It is constant action and really fast paced, Uma Thurman plays the role of Black Mamba/ The Bride so well i couldn't imagine anyone else in the role.

When watching Kill Bill i would recommend keeping in mind that, Kill Bill isn't meant to be realistic. For example, Black Mamba massacres i believe 100 yakuza in 10 minutes.

Visuals: Kill Bill has amazing visuals, every fight scene in the film ( and believe me there are alot ) is filmed so well. Sometimes it feels as if you are playing a video game, because of how the film just plays out.

During the Yakuza Massacre, the film swaps to black and white ( for the ratings ) this choice added an interesting element. This film also exaggerates things and doesn't take things to seriouusly, for example O-ren Issii played by Lucy Liu decapitates a man and a fountain of blood sprays from his neck.

Sound: In some movies, sound is overlooked for plot/ story. But it adds so much to a film, Kill Bill has some of the best sound design i've heard in a movies. Every Katana Swing, Kick all sound so sharp like your actually there.

One of my Favorite scene is where Black Mamba fights Gogo Yubari. Gogo uses and meteor hammer and ever swing she does sound so crisp and polished. This scene had no music in the background, all you can hear are the swings of the katana and the meteor hammer, giving the scene more tension then if they added background music.

In conculsion, I believe Kill Bill is one of those Movies that you have to watch before you die.

Monster High: Escape from Skull Shores (2012 TV Movie)

A Great Kids Film

On my quest of re-watching every Monster High Movie and Tv show, This was the first one I choose to watch. Ever since I was six years old I've loved Monster High, lucky my Dad was a chill parent and didn't care that Monster high ( a franchise made for girls ) was my favourite thing, now moving on to the review.

I believe MH: Escape from Skull Shores is one of the best ones, the animation and graphs are quite dated since it was released ten years ago. But the message is pretty simple, Don't judge people on their looks basically. This movie also fuels the fan theory that Frankie was made of different parts. ( The theory is actually confirmed in the new live action movies. )

I digress, If you need a light-hearted kids movie with a good message, I would recommend this film!

The Love Witch (2016)

Definitely an Acquired Taste

I think I would need at least three watches to fully like the movie. Don't get me wrong, the movie isn't bad at all. I love the aesthetics but not what I was expecting.

After seeing all the edits on social media I went into "The Love Witch" with no previous knowledge, as I think everyone should. My expectations was a movie about a witch making men fall in love with her and then swindling them.

Boy was I wrong, I will not be taking into full depth about the plot to avoid spoilers and I highly recommend watching this movie without spoilers.

Here's a brief summary of the plot. Elaine ( The Love Witch ) is the main character, obviously she is a witch who uses magic to entice men using her spells.

The Aesthetic of this movie.

Awesome, the film has a really unique technicolour looking like The Wizard of Oz or the original Mary Poppins. From the video edits I've seen on social media make me think this was a film from the 70s but I only found out it was a movie from 2016, that's how convincing the film is.

I would recommend watching it if you enjoy unique thriller/ drama movies. But definitely an acquired taste.

Pearl (2022)

Give Mia Goth an Oscar

Wow! This film was so good. I to be honest have not seen the predecessor to this film "X". I believe I shouldn't have watched the sequel before the first film, but I have watched a Movie Recap on the film.

I digress, horror movies are one of my favourite genres but the Horror genre is a tough one to get correct.

Horror movies are either Amazing, Ok or Horribly bad.

This movie has amazing acting, Mia Goth's acting is Oscar worthy. The emotions she portrays, Wow.

The only thing I could say was the plot was predictable, your more connecting the dots of the plot rather than figuring it out.

I would definitely say watch "X" before this Film. I will be watch it next.

Jawbreaker (1999)

Mean Girls but Murder

Jawbreaker is a fun watch, I watched this film when it became available on Netflix. This by my standard is a film you should watch without thinking too much.

The plot is about a group of four girls, and three of the four plan a kidnapping prank on the "good girl" of the group Liz Purr, in the end it goes wrong. Yes it involves a Jawbreaker.

The Plot is pretty simple and with a run time of around 85 minutes the film doesn't drag on for extra run time. The movie needed to have a shorter run time because you can do so much with a relatively simple plot. The films that feel similar to or are the same genre would be Heathers and Mean Girls. I'd say Heathers would be the closest in terms of similarities ( teenage Murder, fashion and language. ) The last thing I would like to add is that the fashion in this film the "villain" of the film Courtney always looks on point. The clothes, hair, everything just looks amazing.

I would recommend this movie if you enjoy 19s/20s teen movies.
