Grease 2 (1982)
10/10
Let it stand on its own
7 November 2003
I grew up with both of the Grease films but I must say, Grease 2 is my favourite and there are many reasons. It does have the same kind of formula as the orginal Grease but is dealt with in a completely different way. Danny faniced Sandy back, but Stephanie (played by the young Michelle Pfhieffer) doesn't even give Michael (Caulfield) a second glance. Also, instead of cars, a motorbike is the new 'thing' to have.

Michael Carrington, a straight A student from England, transfers to Rydell High and is immediately put into the 'nerd' category and the T-Birds brand him 'Shakesphere'. He is smart, extremely uncool and very shy.

Stephenie, the leader of the Pink ladies has come back from the summer holidays having broke up with Johnny, the T-Birds leader, having grown out of him. Johnny is clearly still interested in Stephanie but she doesn't want to know. Her loyalty to the Birds has faltered as she wants someone even cooler.

First day back Stephanie sees the Birds picking on Michael and defends him, from that moment on Michael vows to become a T-Bird and win her heart.

So there is the story, but what Grease is famous for is the memorable songs, and this film has them! There are 12 songs on the soundtrack and there isn't one that I really skip. The music has changed since the first Grease as it was made in the decade of the 80's. Its early 80's rock that you are getting yourself into for the most part. You have the romanitc songs (Turn Back The Hands Of Time, We'll Be Together, Charades), the heavy rock songs (Cool Rider, Who's That Guy), the happy-go-dancing songs (Score Tonight, Back To School), the sweet songs (Love For All Seasons) and the down right silly songs (Reproduction, Prowlin'). These are all songs that stick in your mind and just can't stop singing them to yourself. All the songs are quality and stand on their own. Absolutely brilliant soundtrack.

What would Grease be without the classic characters? We have the T-Birds who are actually not cool in any way or form, its only the leader (Johnny) who is 'cool', the others just follow his lead. Johnny is a classic character who makes you laugh over and over again, its hilarious whenever he loses his cool. Frenchy unfortunately doesn't have a big part in the film but nethertheless she is there. The coach is back but you only see him twice if that. Mrs Mcgee and Blanche are also back making quite a funny duo as they did last time. Two new teachers; a very sexy female who always has low cut tops on and pays $500 for her hair (according to the cheer leading twins). She falls for the unlikely nerdy substitute teacher, Mr Stewart, who teaches the immortal 'Reproduction' lesson. The new Pink ladies have very distinctive characters, one of them is obsessed with her nose and doesnt come into it much (Rhonda), Paulette is somewhat the second leader in my view who has a crush on Johnny, she does have her own intentions but she does care for her friends; nothing like Riz. Sharon is a bubbly flirty character who is the prey of one of the T-Birds (Louis) to get into bed. Then there is Dolores, Paulettes little sister who isn't a Pink lady but a pink lady mascot, she looks about 12, mouthy and carries a skate board everywhere.

The performances were actually very good in my humble opinion, especially Max Caulfield who seemed very uncomfortable... and that is the way Michael is supposed to be! He wins me over with those puppy innocent eyes, then when he is the mysterious guy he acts completely cool. Max was a triumph. His voice isn't the best thing in the world but he didn't sing that much anyway. Michelle Pfhieffer was wonderful as an actress and singer. When you hear her sing you won't need to wonder why Andrew Lloyd Webber wanted her as Evita in his film musical and NOT Madonna. She shines in 'Cool Rider'. The whole cast was believable. I normally sit back in films and watch peoples performances and dig at them but I didnt do that at all in this movie.

This film has a lot of negative feedback as every one compares it to the Original Grease. My opinion isnt common, preferring this one to the original, therefore my advice to you is to forget the first movie when watching this one. It needs a chance!

Unrealistic
28 March 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Im not going to go into a summary because you already know what its about. Lets get right to it. It was just plain unrealistic, all of the characters were. The actors were over melodramatic and all they did was blame the parents. I didn't care for any of the characters and it had one of the weakest endings I have ever seen. The princess and the rebel just... got together at the end for no reason at all, they actually hated each other but the next minute they were together. Worse than that, the jock and the weirdo hadnt said two words to each other yet they got together, just because she got a make over. There is no cleverness here, since each character has no development, but are just stereotyped. Yes the criminal is mean, yes the jock is cocky, yes the princess is stuck up, yes the nerd is nerdy and yes the weirdo is weird. And that people are your characters, and thats as far as it goes. There was a subplot between the Teacher and the care taker, but it was left unfinished!! A very bad film. Don't waste your time. I gave it 4 out of 10 to be fair... for the few weak laughs that it brings.

Cats (1998 Video)
10/10
WOW!
9 March 2003
I only got this yesterday and I have already watched three times. I actually got this video because I was very curious about it. Before I entered the musical world, 'Cats' was the only one I had ever heard of. I haven't seen it live, or any other musical for that matter. So I believe that this is a review for the video, not comparing it to the real thing.

First of all, to everyone saying it has no plot; well, it's not supposed to, and really there is. Its a small one thats very long winded. Basically they are a group of cats that meet up once a year and the leader picks one cat to give a better life to, then all the cats introduce themselves and we are supposed to pick a favourite. Yes, it's extremely obvious who he is going to pick, but I think its besides the point. I know from just looking at it that its like no other musical. Personally, I dont know how anyone could not enjoy this, but people dont apparently.

If you want to enjoy this, stop looking at the plot and look at the talent and work that has gone into this! The cast are absolutely amazing, they are terrific actors, dancers and of course singers and they do all three at the same time. The dancing and flexiblity will keep you hooked and amazed. I didn't like Elaine Paige, strangely enough, I usually like her. It just became incredibly boring when she appeared on stage. It was extremely slow and all that the other cats were doing was simply going near her then pulling away again. Most frustrating. Michael Gruber was absolutely amazing. What a beautiful cat he makes! I don't know who is, but I will search! I absolutely loved Rum Tum and Victoria. The lighting is brilliant and as for the most important thing, the music, it is most catchy in a positive way. Im already ordering the soundtrack! Still, I prefer Phantom of the Opera, for now, but Cats is an amazing Musical, at least give it a try. 10 out of 10.

Moonwalker (1988)
One pile of complete rubbish
6 February 2003
First of all, after reading everyone else's comments, this is not a music video. Its a movie...as least that is what its supposed to be. I can't believe the actors, directors, writers etc actually agreed to this. It has no plot what so ever. Michael is as bad as ever. This movie should be called: Michael Jackson and his huge Ego. He thinks he is the best man in the world or something. He thinks he is out of this world. I mean, only Michael can turn into a robot and save the planet...whatever. You have these kids who just love him for some reason or rather. I don't know what they are there for, or how they know him, I think he just put them there to show how much everyone loves him. I'm giving this a 2 out of 10, the 2 because of the Smooth Criminal sequence. Just stay clear of this one.

Better than the first, but it loses its touch half way through
18 November 2002
Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets is my favourite book, and it has transferred to the big screen, and what fun it was! From the word go, you do not stop smiling until the scene where Harry is doing Lockharts fanmail. Such jokes will not be forgotten: 'I didn't know you could read.' Eroll flying splat into the Window, and Harry's face when he realises he has to travel through Floo Powder. So many funny moments, however, when the plot takes over it can start to drag and get a bit boring, for those who have read the books anyway. Dobby, Fawkes and the Basilisk were absolutely brilliant and the adult cast are again the perfect cast. Daniel Radcliffe, although a better performance than the first movie (which isn't hard), was still making me and other adults around me let out a snigger when he delivers a bad line 'Of course, Phoenix's have healing powers'. I don't know how anyone can say he can act. Emma Watson was brilliant, as she was in the first movie, and the Mudblood scene was most touching because of her performance and Robbie Coltranes. Rupert Grint and his annoying but brilliant facial expressions are back, he takes the show away from Danial Radcliffe which isn't hard. He is so much more believable than he was in the first movie. Kenneth Brannagh was absolutely perfect as Gilderoy Lockhart! That's all I have to say about that! The performance I was most disappointed with, which was Daniel in the first movie, was this time round Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy. Maybe it was his voice that let him down or the way he looked frightenly like Eminem at one point before delivering a terrible line 'Good one Goyle'. Whatever it was, he was terrible this time round and was much better as the puberty-less Draco in the first film. Alan Rickman as Severus Snape was underused as well as Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid and Dame Maggie Smith as Minerva McGonagall. Shame.

The adaption from the book was done brilliantly. There was no particular thing I missed from being put into the big screen such as Nick's Death day Party. This time round, Steve Kloves took the right things out and put the right things in. I actually enjoyed the extra things that was put in such as Cobby jumping around on the bed and Jason Issacs (who also played his part perfectly) contribution of 'Well lets hope that Mr. Harry Potter will always be around to save the day'.

After such a great movie, I don't know whos idea it was, they absolutely ruined the ending. The cheese was melting of the screen as I was melting into my seat. Somehow, Hagrid turned into the hero, don't ask me, I don't know how it happened.

Over all, a 8 out of 10 and a great farewell performance from the Late Richard Harris. Congratulations the crew and cast, much better than their first offering.

Not as good as the book.
3 March 2002
Warning: Spoilers
May Contain Spoiler

This film was great. I was a bit late with the Harry Potter hype. I wasn't interested with it at all. When a T.V. show asked that school it was that Harry Potter went too, I couldn't answer it. I was thinking more along the lines of 'How am I supposed to know that!?' But, my boyfriend was a fan and he dragged me to see the film much to my dislike. The film was fun, I've seen it 4 times now, and after seeing the film for the first time I read all the books and im not re-reading them for the third time. I can't get enough of Harry Potter!

When I saw the film I thought it was amazing, but when I read the book I realised just how much I didn't understand. The film doesn't have enough depth by far. The visual effects actually had me laughing the third time round, they were really badly done. The one thing that had me squirming in my seat was Daniel Radcliffe. He was awful, he was fine as long as he didn't speak. I know the book portrayed Harry to be ordinary, but Radcliffe's portrayel was ridiculous. Wasn't his fault, it was the directors. I was however impressed with the other child actors. Emma Watson as Hermione was fantastic, I was most impressed with her, and then I found out she hadn't done a single piece of acting in her life! Rupert Grint was great as Ron, yet his one liners were a bit cringy at times. Most impressed with Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy, totally believable and loving his accent.

Richard Harris was great as the odd friendly Dumbledore, totally stole my imagination. And the actor who I think was absolutly perfect was Alan Rickman. Alan Rickman as Severus Snape was perfect. I don't even have words to describe it. Ian Hart was great as the stuttering Quirrell...but not the evil Quirrell. He over acted on the last scene, which was a disappointment.

The film is a great bundle of fun, but not of high quality. If you haven't caught up the Harry Potter hype yet, see the movie first, then read the book. You will be hooked!

And the point is...
27 January 2002
I watched this film because I'm a big fan of River Phoenix and Joaquin Phoenix. I thought I would give their sister a try, Rain Phoenix. I regret checking it out. She was embarrasing and the film just has this weird plot if thats what you want to call it. Sissy was just weird and Jellybean just sits on a toilet who both sleep with this old man in the mountains, whats going on? I have never been so unsatisfied in my life. It was just total rubbish. I can't believe that the actors agreed to do such a waste of film, money, time and space. Have Sissy being 'beautiful' didnt get to me. I thought she was everything but that. Those thumbs were just stupid, and why do we care if she can hitchhike? WHATS THE POINT??? 0 out of 10, shame the poll doesnt have a 0, doesnt even deserve a 1. Hopefully, Rain is better in other films, I forgive her for this one performance, I mean I wouldnt do much better with that film.
