The Boy Who Could Fly (1986)
A special movie for me
I saw this movie as a teenager during a time when I was extremely troubled, I had just gone through some huge losses, had just moved far away from my friends, and more. I also have autism and was sometimes mute . So J related so well to the angry little brother, the depressed big sister, the grieving mother, and the lonely neighbor. This movie comforted me so much and made me feel less alone. I recently found it streaming on Tubi and was so happy to see it again, and reflect on my life back then and the much different, more positive I have now. It is a good story. A little cheesy ending.. But its a comforting movie for me to watch.
IF (2024)
Husband and I really enjoyed IF
My husband and I are in our 50's and saw IF today. No grandkids, just us. We loved it! IF is a very well told imaginative, heartwarming story. I was not expecting it to be so funny but it had some incredible comedic actors so I shouldn't have been surprised. My favorite character was Blue by Steve Carrel who is a genius at comedy. I love anything that Ryan Reynolds is in. I loved how seeing how happy Bea and her dad are, in spite of the struggles they have been through. I love how the movie encourages children to use their imaginations to make their worlds a better place, I also didnt see the twist at the end coming, but it was awesome! IF was a fabulous movie that I would love to see again.
Jonathan & Jesus (2024)
Jonathon Roumie carries the role or Jesus well.
I originally watched the docuseries Jonathon and Jesus simply because I am a huge fan of The Chosen and of Jonathan Roumie. However, I quickly got wrapped up in the stories and interviews within this show. It not only tells Jonathon's story, but also the stories of the people he encounters. I really loved seeing Jonathon explore the heavy weight and responsibility of what its like to portray Jesus. Because I am such a big supporter of The Chosen, and really liked watching what Jonathan goes through as he plays the role. I think it must be incredibly difficult to do, but as this documentary shows, although Jonathan can struggle with the immense role he also relies on the Lord to get him through it, he has people who help him, and he handles it with such grace. Jonathan is a fantastic actor and is my favorite person to have ever played Jesus. Jonathon and The Chosen have made the real Jesus so much more real to me and such a bigger part of my life. It has helped my relationship with Jesus and my desire to know Him much stronger. Jonathan- I know this is a difficult role for you to play- but thank you for pouring your heart and soul into it and for what you're doing to show Jesus to the world. I am so grateful. Thank you for allowing us to see behind the scenes of the challenges and rewards of what you're doing.
The Shift (2023)
Worth the wait!
I had helped crowdfund The Shift years ago based on the short film I saw. I have been waiting and waiting to see how it ends. Totally worth the wait! The music and graphics were very intense. I loved seeing some of the actors from my favorite tv show, The Chosen, in it. Neil McDonough does an incredible job playing The Benefactor.... He does such a good job playing someone evil and creepy and he certainly achieved his goal of making me thoroughly hate Satan. Elisabeth Tabish was beautiful as Molly. Kristoffer Polaha was perfect as the main character. Even though I had to wait several years for this film to come out, it was worth the wait and I cannot wait to see it again. Highly recommend.
Head of the Class (2021)
Stop trying to re-do old classics
Once again Hollywood proves theres nothing new under the sun. They took a good show from the 80's with Howard Hessman, and they ruined it with bad acting and bad jokes. Not that the old Head of the Class show was the best acting, but it was waaaaaay better than this. It feels like youre watching a bad Disney tv show for eleven year olds. Its a good premise for a show in my opinion. I loved Head of the Class in the eighties because I was also in a gifted program and we all enjoyed watching the show back then. But this stuff theyre making now.... It seems like its all about making bad jokes with bad timing and bad acting. I was so excited when I saw a new Head of the Class was coming out. But this was unwatchable.
For the Love of Nancy (1994)
One of my favorites
When this movie came out I was severely anorexic and in college. I wanted so bad to have a family that cared about me enough to try to save my life. I remember how well I related to the sadness and the fears Nancy had. I have watched this movie several times over the years and it still brings back powerful emotions. I thought a lot about brave Nancy was at the end to go ahead and agree to the medical guardianship. I wanted so bad to have something like that happen for me so I had an excuse to be made to go to treatment because I knew I would never go on my own. It took almost 30 years of dealing with anorexia to finally get better. I hope the real Nancy Walsh is still doing well.
United States of Tara (2009)
One of my favorite shows- from a person with DID
US of Tara is such a fun show for me to watch as a person with DID. Even though it makes DID very simplistic, and I have never heard another person with DID say "transition" instead of "switch," this is still a solid show. The writing is very funny with everyone's quick comebacks and arguments. I love how Mac is so supportive of Tara and everything she goes through... I wish I could have that sort of support. I would love to be as open about my DID as Tara is. It seems like it would be so freeing. The characters are a lot of fun to watch as they change and grow. I feel like the writers could have done a bit more realism having to do with the DID though. For instance, there arent any medications that can just make alters disappear. Toni Collette does an incredible job becoming different alters as Buck Chicken, and all the others. She is an amazing actress. I wish the show had not been cancelled. Every time I watch the series I keep on hoping another season will magically appear.
The Chosen (2017)
best tv show I have ever seen!
The Chosen follows Jesus and His disciples. I have never seen a production quite like this. It is masterfully written, the actors are phenomenal, and the story lines are so incredibly moving and emotional. I have lost track of how many times I have watched each episode. It is an absolutely beautiful show. I was hooked on it by the end of episode one, where Jesus shows up. Jonathon Roumie plays the absolute best Jesus I have ever seen. He is so good at his facial expressions, his body language, and his voice that it makes me feel like I am getting to know the real Jesus better? The Chosen has amplified my love for the Lord so much, and I feel that Ive grown so much closer to Jesus because of this show.
Beaches (2017)
Wow... this was horrible.
I will never understand why people want to remake classic movies and then just ruin them. It was bad enough that the two main actresses in the movie could not act, but the bad acting ruined any possibility of a good story. Do not recommend. The original movie back in the 1980's was so good and holds so much nostalgia. The young girls were such amazing young actresses and brought so much life to the film. When this movie started The acting was so bad that it was painful, bit I kept trying to give it another chance. I was hoping the movie would redeem itself, but it just got worse as time went on. Please stop trying to remake classics. It doesnt work.
Christmas with the Chosen: The Messengers (2021)
Absolutely phenomenal
This was an incredible show. Lots of beautiful music, and a wonderful story about how the book of Luke was written. Very heartwarming. Everyone in the theater clapped and cheered. I cant wait to see it again!
La Brea (2021)
Gret concept, poorly executed
The only actor in the show that is halfway decent is the little blond boy. The rest of the acting is terrible. But i really like the concept of the show. I love shows about time travel. I watch th show just so I can see what happens with all the time loop stuff.
Highway to Heaven (2021)
NO.
Dont waste your time. The original Highway to Heaven with Michael Landon was so good... such wonderful stories and acting. You CANNOT remake that. This one had a horrible storyline and bad acting. You cant remake the good stuff from the 80s, so why do they even try? If you want to watch Highway to Heaven, go was the ORIGINAL. This show is a slap in the face to Michael Landon.
