This House Possessed (1981 TV Movie)
10/10
classic!
3 June 2002
Wow! This is not just another silly TV horror movie, this is a classic! The original story, the great directing, photography and the superb score make this a must-see is you are into haunted house movies. Highly atmospheric! When will this movie get it's proper DVD release, I wonder? Ok, the fire effect is a little bit cheap, but on the other hand, who knows what a tight budget they had for this movie? And to come up with a great movie like this on tight budget makes it even more worth honoring. I wonder where the house is that they used for filming?

A Masterpiece
8 April 2002
This movie is one of the rare masterpieces of movie history. It has an excellent cast, photography, editing, score, special-effects, settings, and so on! Everything is excellent in this movie! Just look at the lavish photography, the wonderful historical correct settings and props! The acting is of course simply great, too. Davis and Modine are just the right people for their roles. I guess such masterpieces like this that will become classics just have to flop at their first release, like Disney's "Fantasia" did. Renny Harlin can really be very proud of his present for Geena Davis.

A subtle Masterpiece
9 February 2002
If you like subtle psychological dramas/thrillers this is a movie for you. Those who want to see an ordinary sex'n'crime erotic thriller surely will not understand this movie, as Colin Firth obviously did when he called it "rubbish". But Jennifer Rubin is the real star of the movie anyway. She is such a brilliant and beautiful actress! Along with the twisting and turning storyline, that gets more and more psychological and makes you think about yourself, the wonderful directing, photography and especially the music make this movie a masterpiece. Also the small parts are very good, especially Belinda Waymouth is terrific in her small scene. I hope it gets released on DVD soon, and a soundtrack album would be a dream coming true!!

The Awakening (1980)

a great movie
12 November 2001
This movie is just great: a good script, good directing, photography, superb acting (especially by the daughter) and a *wonderful* soundtrack. This is one of the movies that doesn't need a lot of gore, but really creates atmosphere through the good photography/music/acting. If you are tired of the usual modern horror trash like "scream" etc., go and see this one!

Avoid the Director's Cut!
4 November 2001
Well, I guess I don't have to repeat why this movie is a masterpiece -

but the "Director's Cut" released some time ago is simply a complete disappointment. You have the feeling someone simply wanted to cut out some good scenes to destroy the movie. The first cut is in the beginning of the movie: after the girls ran down the stairs into the dining room. we can see them shouting "St. Valentine" and sitting down.

From this sequence, the director's cut cuts some footage of the girls chattering in such a blunt way, that one wonders what this is supposed to be. The wonderful church scene, the boat scene with Irma and the walk in the garden with Irma are also cut - all this scenes are great and their loss *really* ruins the movie! What is the idea behind ruining a cult movie in it's first release on DVD? I hope the real version is released on DVD soon! Also I wonder why nobody releases a soundtrack album of this excellent music?

Great parody, might be misunderstood
26 September 2001
Now this comedy is simply great. It's not only a parody of dull teen-slasher horror movies, but also a parody of bad, taste&brainless "comedies" like "Scary Movie". Oversexed dialogues and stupid homophobia are parodied wonderfully in this movie. Of course, this movie may be too good to be understood by people of the type that like "Scary Movie"... Watch out for Mink Stole (from the John Waters movies) as French teacher from Paris, France!!! Also wait for the credits to finish for some great final comments!!
