Manifest (2018)
Shockingly dramatic but works in it's own way
This is what would happen if Melrose Place was thrown into a plane that disappears and returns 5 years later. Stalkers, Serial Killers, Crazy people, dysfunctional families and marriages, this has it all.
I think most are mislead by the posters or teasers that's why most become disappointed. Even I was fooled. Manifest isn't a straight up sci-fi that has a plot that gets smarter as it progresses. It is a soap opera that takes it's time with the characters and has wayy too many side plots. And for that reason I love it.
Granted, it's pacing changes in Season 4 due to it's cancellation, but what viewers should know before watching manifest is that you have to set aside your brain and just go with it.
It doesn't try to be the best show you've watched, but instead wants to entertain the viewers. It's surprisingly addictive.
If you decide to watch this, don't bring a notebook to list all the clues. Instead, just grab popcorn or even tea because this show is incredibly spicy.
One of Us Is Lying (2021)
Got better, maybe even it's best
This is a review of Second season, which was released this 2022.
With other teen series that we're released this year, it's amazing how "One Of Us Is Lying" stands out to me despite being one of the small scale ones.
The second season being with the help of Netflix must've helped, because the show improved in every aspect that the first season has lacked on.
Mainly, the plot's execution was a lot more foolproof and smooth than the first. I had low expectations as the second season leaves the book, and they we're gonna write the Simon Say's mystery without basis. Thankfully, the author was still involved and they were able to create a mystery with a satisfying reveal without sacrificing any essential elements to the mystery.
And I cannot do a review without commending the actor's improvements, which I consider brought the whole Season to how great it is. There was a clear improvement and they are more convincing this time around as friends and lovers.
There's nothing new to One of Us is Lying and I won't lie, is chockful of cliches. But that's what I enjoyed so much, it felt like a modernized version of what I loved about old teen shows, just smarter and more organized.
The In Between (2022)
Review from a teen who loves Romance
If you're looking for even the slightest innovation in this movie, then this isn't the place for you. The In Between is full of cliches from start to finish, but it still didn't stop me from enjoying it.
It doesn't try to hide the fact that it's far from perfect. Nor does it try to win an award, it's simply fun. You wouldn't have to think deeply since it all throws it in your face.
Is it absurd? Yes. Is it cringe? Maybe. But with the acting, and the sad and desperate storyline- it's all easy to overlook if you just try and enjoy what's there.
I don't know what the other reviews are expecting from this kind of movie. If you're watch to judge, then this isn't the movie for you. But if you want a 90's type romance for your saturday night in pajamas, then this is your treat.
The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star (2021)
Where are we going?
This movie was totally unnecessary, and could only be enjoyed by fans of the original 2 movies.
The only thing I like about the movie is how they explored Fiona's character and her lovely romance story. Seriously the best among the three.
Nonetheless, this movie has no point at all.
Before I Fall (2017)
Holy smokes...
Watching the film, I had low expectations due to it being a Netflix film. By the time the credits was rolling, my heart was beating fast by simply how real the story was.
It's not exactly a game changer or anything, but it puts the viewers in a position that you yourself feel like you're in the story. It tells alot of truths about teenagers, even scary ones.
This movie isn't forgiving, it doesn't tone down the drama nor gloominess of the overall movie. That's what I liked about the movie, especially the final act, it leaves you frozen in place.
This is a must watch, a gold teen film which I never get how it only has 6 stars.
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Mulan + Moana and a little bit of Kung Fu Panda
The only strength of this movie was it's animation, the other nonetheless caused it's downfall.
The story felt like it was written by an intern. Too formulatic, especially for a Disney film. None of characters are striking nor memorable, the script sounds like it was taken from other Disney movies, there was no development or anything, everything was just too easy for a Disney film.
Aside from the fact that Im happy us Southeast Asians are finally getting representation, I don't see the point of this movie and why Disney even bothered.
Pretty Little Liars (2010)
Isn't as bad as some makes it to be, but it isn't as good as some makes it too
This show is kind of hard to rate, but Im settling for 7 stars since it seems to be the best option.
I won't deny the fact that this show was very entertaining and that it kept me at the edge of my seat every episode. That I think what made this very popular, it was just that addicting.
Storywise, it's a rollercoaster. It's both holy in goodness and so terrible it should be sent straight to hell. This is also as far as Im concerned the most dramatic teen drama you'd find. If you're into slapping, intense confrontations, mental asylums around 4 girls solving a complex mystery that involves half the towm then this is your cup of tea.
Oh and there's not much sex, if that's what you're looking for.
Acting and Production wise is also one of the reasons this because iconic. The acting of the main girls especially was just so in character and genuine that you'd actually think that they're who they are playing. The sets, camera, everything else is a must see too.
Overall, it's something I think teenagers would genuinely feel happy and immersed to watch. Anything older than 20 would critisize this for being too out of touch of reality (the one star reviews). But hey, it's 2010 TV, what's not to love?
My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
Actually worth it
As somebody that's not much of a fan of the series, the movie is actually worth the watch.
Sure the plot doesn't exactly do anything game changing, it still does the series predecessor justice. It's an adventure animation, it follows the same old arc just with the iconic lovable characters (and some new ones).
Animation wise, it's still 2D like how we all like it. No notable difference, nothing over the top, just the same old My Little Pony.
The soundtracks are beautiful too by the way.
