Naach (2004)
Innovative movie with a good story
Naach is an incredible story. I liked it, as I have all RGV movies. It is based in the reality of human emotion and not just the heightened emotions of technicolor love stories, although I like those movies too. Antara Mali and Abhishek are a great pair. Wonderful performances. And the cinematography is great, fantastic-- superb. I liked that this film is set in the world of Bollywood. Everyone knows it is a hard business, but this illustrates the struggle of these artists without being schmaltzy. The dancing is so abstract, but I admired it. Some songs I fast forwarded through because they slowed the film down. The dialogue is good and I recommend the film as long as you can control the remote. Ritesh Deshmukh also gives a great performance.
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004)
So Funny!
I loved this movie. It was a laugh every two minutes. I was skeptical at first, but it was really good. The comedy was good, the story was good, and the movie was so much fun to watch. Kal Penn and John Cho did a great job as did the rest of the cast and crew. It delivered. I hope the bag of pot learns how to make a decent cup of coffee! See the movie...you'll understand. * * * *
The Last Samurai (2003)
This movie was really great
This movie blew me away. I was skeptical at first but it was a good choice, good material, and an amazing job by Cruise and all the actors in the film. Plus, the woman who plays Taka is so beautiful, and the actors who play her children are amazing. The crew also needs commendation for the amazing work they put into the film. Esp. Ed Zwick, the writer, and the cinematographer John Toll. Amazing, really. I loved it.
Old School (2003)
Totally hilarious
Will Farrell is so funny. Vince Vaughn is hilarious and believable. And Luke Wilson is the guy you want to be friends with. You totally root for all three of these guys. The jokes are so funny and the movie is totally worth it. It is such a funny concept and it works. Jeremy Piven is also good, and the student council pres. represents Asian Americans...props to her. Leah Remini, Ellen Pompeo, and the actress who played Marissa are so funny. Also Andy Dick and Elisha Cuthbert are awesome. I really liked the movie. So see it if you want to, with a big recommendation from me. Weensy, Blue, and Spanish are so funny as pledge members. The godfather rules. Later.
Daredevil (2003)
This was a really good movie
The movie was good. It was well told, and all the actors played their parts well and believably. It was fun, funny, and a good story. I think most comic book stories have archetypes, and this one was no different. The characters seemed three dimensional and well developed enough to make the story engaging. I like the beautiful shots of NYC and Hell's Kitchen. Matt's story with his father is so heartbreaking and real. And the love story is also believable. I really liked it. The tone and mood of the movie was right on, and the music was great. Jennifer Garner was awesome, Ben Affleck really pulled off the role splendidly, and made Daredevil a character you really feel for. Michael Clarke Duncan was awesome in all his scenes as was Joe Pantoliano, and Colin Farrell who I think is great in so many things. All the actors had passion as well as the director and rest of the cast and crew. Excellent job, just really excellent.
Murder by Numbers (2002)
A Really Good Movie
I feel that this movie is entertaining, intellectual, and well acted. Sandra Bullock does a good job in portraying a woman who has a hard time getting close to people and maintaining personal relationships. Ben Chaplin is so cute, and he is a good actor. I like his character. He gives men a good name. Michael Pitt and Ryan Gosling are both amazing. They pull off their roles so well. Ryan, if you are reading this, I love your voice it is so distinctive. I love your acting delivery and the delivery of your lines, your vocal inflection are so right on. I think it was a good movie, a great movie. It doesn't pander to the audience. It has a brain.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
Sandra Bullock should have told Justin to kick the gun over to her after he put it on the ground so Richard couldn't get to it. That is what they tell the perps to do in every crime movie, drop the gun and then kick it over.
Also I thought it was weird that Richard approached Sandra Bullock when she was surveilling him on the street. And it was also weird that he was messing with her physically after she got out of the car. Weird. I guess it was something his character would do, but that doesn't make sense if they are trying to get away with murder.
A GOOD MOVIE I WOULD RECOMMEND IT.
KUDOS TO EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THE CAST AND CREW. DEFINITELY WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION
TO ALL THE MOVIE LOVERS OUT THERE,
HAVE FUN AT THE MOVIES, FROM A FELLOW MOVIE LOVER.
Monsoon Wedding (2001)
Amazing and so much fun
Mira Nair, Sabrina Dhawan, Declan Quinn, the whole cast and crew have made an incredible picture that will definitely stand the test of time. I am Indian and I love movies, both English, some Hindi, and other international cinema. I love this movie. I saw it 3 times already and I soaked up everything in the mis-en-scene and watched the acting and camera work closely. It is a well crafted film. It flows naturally and all the main characters are defined well enough to tell the story effectively. The acting is superb. Man, is Uncle Tej creepy or what. Everyone, cast and crew does a good job.
I saw the film before I read any reviews and I'm glad I got to be surprised by the events that unfolded before me. Also I was reluctant to watch the film because I thought it would be the Bollywood version of what an Indian/South Asian wedding would be like, but it was really true to life. And my goodness the groom, the Aussie, and Umang were really easy on the eyes...good casting.
Mr. Shah, Miss Dubey, Mr. Raaz, Miss Shome, Miss Das, Miss Shetty, Mr. Dabas, and the girl who did the dance at the wedding and the Aussie actor acted well. All the performances and the dialogue were so organic. The movie strikes amazing emotional chords and has both poignant and funny moments. The cinematography and composition and duration of shots was wonderful. I have the poster for the movie, and when I look at it I am proud of being an Indian, of Indian filmmaking, of women in film, and the story that this movie tells. Bravo, Bravo.
Mira Nair rocks. Whether you know it or not you, doing what you do inspires me to be both bold and creative in/with my life. Rock on.....
Showtime (2002)
It was alright, funny at moments, but not a standout
I saw a lot of clips of the movie on a cable special that was promoting it so I knew most of the jokes in the movie. I saw it for free so I didn't feel gypped, but it just too embarrassing and annoying at times to be a good movie you can recommend without reservations. I liked Shanghai Noon though. I don't wanna slam it but I would not recommend people paying to see it in the theaters for $8. Wait until video if you can wait that long, or go see a matinee. Empty entertainment with too much gun play and car chases for my taste. I respect everyone else's opinion, it's your choice to see it or not. But it is too predictable for me even if I did see the special, you know what is gonna happen. But it was a little bit fun just to see it and form my own opinion
