The Serpent (2021)
Speaking Their Respective Languages, At Least
Unlike many American movies where actors simply use badly simulated accents while speaking English, in this case, actors actually speak the languages their characters are meant to.
I've always found it quite simplistic when characters are supposed to speak languages like French but end up speaking American English with poorly imitated French accents.
I've often wondered why they don't just use voiceovers if they can't learn a few phrases phonetically. So, I appreciate the attempt to add realism by having the actors that speak the languages they suppose to speak.
On the flip side, the series could've been briefer and more focused, as it came across a bit dragged out. Furthermore, there was a noticeable lack of depth in many characters.
Ancient China from Above (2020)
What is going on with documentaries lately?
For a solid thirteen minutes, the dude goes on like a broken record, repeating the same three phrases. He claims he filmed the Great Wall from space (yeah, sure, buddy), talks about the Ming Dynasty building the wall against invaders (like we didn't already know that), and goes on about how magnificent it is. Now, let's be real here. Lately, it feels like 90% of the documentaries out there aren't bringing anything new to the table. They're just regurgitating old information or, at best, poorly retelling familiar stories. And the remaining 10%? Well, they're just shameless purveyors of lies and conspiracy theories (all that suffocating nonsense about pyramids and the quest for Atlantis, seriously?). Can someone please enlighten me on what's been going on with documentaries lately? I'm starting to wonder if we're stuck in a rut."
The Diplomat (2023)
Menopausal rage
I started to watch but couldn't pass through this fussy fidgety very nervous attitude of the ambassador lady. It did look like she is going through some hormonal changes in this phase of life and a simple dress with no pockets sends her into the tantrum. I understand that they tried to create an atmosphere of intimacy between husband and wife by letting the husband smell her arm pits... It did not do it for me. I felt zero chemistry between them. The same actor in -man in a high castle- has barely touched his screen wife there, though I did believe in them as couple. Maybe it got better after the first episode, maybe, I wouldn't know.
Atlantis Rising (2017)
They're like a bunch of lost puppies, wandering aimlessly from one tourist trap to the next:(
Listen up, all you aspiring adventure seekers! Want to fund your dream Mediterranean cruise? Easy peasy! Just grab an old dusty book, pretend to read it on camera, and start speculating about the lost city of Atlantis. Could it be in Santorini? Malta? Sardinia? Who knows! And if that's not enough, why not try your luck at discovering the Holy Grail in the Maldives (Dear, James, please fund it, I promise I will deliver). All you need is your trusty iPhone, a drone, a Bible, and a foil hat (you know, just in case aliens are involved). With all that fancy gear, I'll definitely make a better documentary than those shady dudes. I start practicing my camera skills and get ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime! To summ up: that was very bad documentary... really, a waste of time:/
Wonder Woman (2017)
Gal Gadot and dis acting skills;)
She is a great chick and she can not act. The whole movie she is on a verge of bursting into laugh and it feels like she doesn't take the script (however ridiculous it is) seriously🤣 One thing is for sure, she did have fun acting in this film, me as a spectator, however, not so much; usually it has to be the other way around.
Did You Hear About the Morgans? (2009)
It is carrie bradshaw in a new life situation
I would think an actress would try to come up with some new face expression, new, appropriate to the character gestures. I saw ms bradshaw phony character, who for some reason just change her name and went to a bad hairdresser.
Miso Hungry (2015)
I actually really enjoyed it!
The guy is actually very likable, something about him is really great. He is not self deprecating, not nagging. There is no drama, that is how it has to be, slowly, painlessly and psychologically comfortable he started to change his life. I hope he stays in good health and enjoys his life!
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
Octopus and the narcissist...
A narcissistic dude found a new obsession (text book case btw). Watched his friend being mauled by sharks, then he made an unsuccessful effort to cry (with no tears, obviously). Cheap philosophy about fragility of life (after watching his friend being mauled). Also, I didn't need to know about his depression and mental health problems.
Cinematography of octopus was great, half dressed dude with big nipples under water - not.
