Excellent gritty drama
18 January 2023
Ramsey: The Vandy Case looks and feels like a film from a different time - and I love that!

They don't make movies like this anymore. Coming form the UK it paints a really interesting picture of New York, and is beautifully shot and lit. Someone else mentioned the occasional intentional focus drops - this really provides it with it's indie feel.

At it's core it's a gritty 'whodunnit' and a story that gently pulls you in from the start. However, there are quite a few surprises along the way.

It's performed well by all the leads with the main credit going to the actor who plays the P. I. - He was excellent.

All round a really good indie - recommended.

Enjoyed this one

As is often the case with indie horror this seems to have split the audience right down the middle.

I fell very much on the side of those who enjoyed it.

The story of a group of kids being picked off by a werewolf in a 'cabin in the woods' feels like it may be a bit run of the mill but thankfully that's not the case here - the simple premise of a the game being played by the protagonists is a really clever plot device and takes the viewer on a genuinely entertaining 'horror whodunnit'.

The cast all played it really well (my particular faves were the guys in the band!) and the direction and lighting were also very good given budgetary restraints.

All in all - if you love indie horror you should be all over this one.

A high end indie
30 December 2022
Well worth a look this one. Beautifully shot and brilliantly performed, it's one of the best indies I have seen for a while.

The film opens with an intriguing scene involving a gangster hunting down a woman and is followed by some beautiful opening credits. The whole thing feels very 'noir like' in the way it's shot, and kudos should go to the camera and lighting depts as they were really given license to excel here.

I also enjoyed the little stylisitc interludes between many of the scenes which added to the atmosphere.

However as with all films with whatever budget a story is needed to keep the viewer interested. The fact that the one and a half hours flew by I think shows that Toxic Impulses has a really good one!

Fun indie series
18 December 2022
As someone who is always on the lookout for stuff away from the mainstream I really enjoyed Ep 1 of The Hunters Anthology,

As a Brit I could feel a touch of 'classic western' in the writing and performance - particularly of the lead, who was excellent. Also put in mind of some of the 80's VHS horror anthologies I used to love as a kid!

I'll be certain to carry on with the series and look forward to seeing where it takes us! I am guessing from other reviews that the series will introduce us to all the other protagonists on the subway train in Episode 1. Can't wait!

Great work all round. Go indie film!!

A subject I have never seen covered before.

Warning: Spoilers
I love seeking out new indie movies from filmmakers I have yet to discover and this one was a real treat. Beautifully shot, written and performed, Under Spanish Skies is a slow burning drama that keeps you hooked until the end. Having skimmed through the IMDB page I can see that it has won several awards. Well deserved.

Without giving too much away the film focuses on a suicide pact made by one of the leads and her husband - a subject I have never seen portrayed before. It's covered sensitively here.

So if you are looking for something away from the mainstream that will make you think give this a try.

Special congrats to the two female leads who are very good.

Highly recommended.

What a lovely film
25 July 2022
Great to find a little gem like this one.

These sort of films can often fall down with the music, however this one has top end writing and production in that department.

If you are a fan of country music (or even if you not!) this comes highly recommended.

Always on the look out for indie cinema and this one is a real treat.

The performances and cinematography are great and really make the most of a beautiful location.

It's a story of four friends that keeps you guessing right up to the end.

Cain and Abel is a very nicely shot, written, and performed indie.

I am always looking out to see what new film makers are up to and this is one of my favourites of recent times. The locations are beautiful and the story is engaging and emotional.

I am a huge fan on finding new indie film and filmmakers. This one is a really great find.

A low key but brilliantly written take on the time travel genre.

Just read in some of the other reviews to see that this film was shot in just two days... which is a phenomenal acheivement.

Highly recommended.

An important story
3 July 2022
This is an intelligent and well put together short film. All the cast are great but a special word has to go to the lead who did a really good job.

As an aside it's really important to highlight this particular subject matter, and the team here did a great job of doing just that.

Highly recommended from here in the UK.

Fun indie
3 July 2022
Enjoyed this one. Put me in mind of the British farce comedies I used to watch as a kid in the afternoons!

A strong cast and funny script help to produce an 'indie' film that you will not be expecting.... but in a good way! The guy who ends up with the Midas Touch is really good. A lovely underplayed comedy performance.

Highly recommended.

Interesting doc
1 July 2022
I think you main hunter guy was fairly easy to work out - a bit Trumpy, and convinced he was the good guy who was somehow doing Africa a favour!

What I thought was most interesting was trying to work out what the locals 'actually' thought of the westerners. I always felt there was a bit on a glint in the eye as if to say 'suckers'! Maybe I'm wrong.

All in all - highly recommended.

Really enjoyed this one. A beautifully shot, well paced and well performed 'indie'. Touches on a lot of points that feel particulary relevent right now.

A special shout out to Jannik Schümann and Nyamandi Adrian who were fatastic.

Definitely check this one out. You won't be disappointed.

Fun and touching indie.
1 July 2022
A nice little indie this. The story of a fading rock star who is keen to get her band back together before the end.

It nicely performed, well cast and the music is great. Props to the guy who wrote the tunes as films like this very much hang on the music being right.

Highly recommended.

It is unusual but really fun. Certainly one for the horror purist. At times it plays out like some sort of surrealist nightmare. I loved it.

A recommend for a those who like the genre.

I really enjoyed this US indie .

Always good to see the perspective from people with points of view you don't always hear. We don't tend to see this sort of film here in the UK which is a shame.

LOVED IT!!
27 June 2022
Absolutely MENTAL!! I really loved it! Right up my street. Took me back to my days renting films from Blockbuster in the 80's based purely on choosing the grimmest/scariest VHS cover. Happy days.

Highly recommended... but be warned - it's quite a ride.
