Sex with Sue (2022)
10/10
No words will do this amazing documentary justice!
14 January 2024
Sue Johanson was amazing in my youth, and opened my young eyes to a world which was exceedingly closed at the time (long before the internet and tons of information at the click of the mouse).

This documentary isn't so much of a biography of Sue Johanson, but more of her immense impact she had on so many of us growing up. I remember laughing at her silliness while listening (and later watching) her shows, and it's well-captured in this lovely documentary.

I encourage everyone to watch this, young or old, familiar with her or not. She was profoundly needed - and appreciated - by so many of us and I can honestly say that I believe she fundamentally changed so many lives for the better.

Great documentary, and worth watching.

RIP Sue.

The Wire (2002–2008)
9/10
I don't typically like "cop shows", but with The Wire, we're not in Kansas anymore!
11 January 2023
It took me a long time to come around to watching The Wire. For years I'd heard about how great this show was - and still is - but just never got around to it. I finally had a copy of the entire series to watch, and it only took the first episode to suck me in. It's one of those shows that when it finally ends, you feel a little bit of emptiness at its loss... at not being able to follow along with the intricate and well-written weave of great story telling any longer.

There is a long list of characters who all played a part in making this show great... too long to mention here. But trust me, you'll love this.

The Office: Garage Sale (2011)
Season 7, Episode 18

Outstanding!

Warning: Spoilers
Even though I'm pretty late in the game to watching The Office, I have been (finally) enjoying the series immensely. I can barely count only a few episodes which weren't all that amazing, but overall, the series is so well done, and I cannot count the amount of times I pushed rewind to enjoy moments a second time seconds after seeing it the first time.

This episode in particular was so well done, on so many levels. Lots of the usual consistent giggling throughout, building to a truly emotional proposal scene rivaling stuff you see in films. It wasn't the acting per se (it's a comedy after all), but the way the story was told. Just so sharp, as always.

Then, finally, finishing off with hysterical laughing at Jim and Dwight's antics. What a fun ride. So much fun. :)

Overall... "meh"
29 November 2021
About the only thing I enjoyed in this lackluster movie was the special effects, which there wasn't a tremendous amount of. The writing was bland, the acting was quite average, and the story was disjointed throughout the movie. It was hard to figure out what was going on, especially when there wasn't a flow between scenes.

Was it enjoyable? Moderately, yes.

Is it a movie I'd watch again? Nope, not very likely.

Puts the form in formulaic

Poor writing, at best mediocre acting by all, lousy film score, completely illogical set of events (other reviewers have noted them), and that melodramatic "messaging" about what you're supposed to think and feel. If you like action, it's great, as the CGI effects were very good. The basic plot of the movie was interesting, but as noted above, could have been done a LOT better. Then again, this was directed by Chris McKay... who's best accomplishment was "LEGO Batman", so I honestly shouldn't be surprised.

Top notch, from start to finish (no pun intended)

I hadn't even heard of this movie until I'd stumbled upon it. Solid writing, acting, and attention to detail. I cannot love this movie more.

Senior Moment (2021)

It's a simple movie, with a simple mission, which is to be light and fun
8 April 2021
There are some negative reviews on here, and they're of course entitled to their opinion. This isn't a great movie, nor does it have a great script, nor does it have great acting or great production value. It IS a fun movie, and it isn't pretentious in trying to be anything but that.

I watched this with my 94 year old mom during the Covid lockdown, and we both enjoyed the story of a man realizing that he's getting (more like gotten) old. At his age, he still has fun, finds love, and it's (again) a simple message to enjoy life. You'll be disappointed if you have any other expectations.

FANTASTIC!!
22 October 2020
With a plot/story that is clever in myriad of ways, a great ensemble of well acted characters, and pure simple comedy which had me always laughing, this is a rare gem. For the first time in a long time, a truly feel good story that makes you crave the next episode. I cannot recommend this enough.

Oh, and while this is more likely enjoyed by adults, it is by no means an "adult" story, and most ages could enjoy this.

NO LINK?

Would be nice if they had a SINGLE LINK to the actress they're discussing SOMEWHERE on the page for this episode. Just one would be nice.

Not a bad movie, if it weren't for stupid moments
22 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
*** SPOILER ALERT ***

This was an "okay" move to watch, but there were some really dumb moments which took away from what it had to offer.

Examples:

The convoy of police vehicles delivering the money MAYBE could have had ONE traffic incident along the way, but THREE??

The sniper getting bit by a rat? Seriously? There were like 20 Swat guys in that tunnel, but not a single one was able to notice a rat roaming around the sniper laying on the ground? If if they didn't, I'm pretty sure they're trained well enough to not accidentally fire off a shot. And even THEN, if he DID accidentally fire his gun, the movement from him jumping would have prevented a clean shot into the head of his target.

There were a couple of other moments when it really just seemed that they abandoned reality in order to fit the story.

Designated Survivor (2016–2019)

Fluff
28 August 2019
I hardly ever write a review, and certainly never for a TV show or movie. This show is "ok", but the inconsistencies and lack of reality are astounding, that I'm amazed this show has a 7.6 star rating!

Many times in season 1, they're stomping through the snow looking for bad guys, and then the scene needs to change, so they throw in a shot of the White House (or other such landmark), and it's SUMMERTIME!!

At some point early in the 2nd season, the Presidents son decides to walk through a protest. Are you kidding? Besides the fact that the Secret Service would never let him get even remotely close to such a thing, some random protester decides to offer him a sign... you know, to help out. Again, the Secret Service agents would never let that happen.

The show tries to be serious, but fails in its lack of reality and total laisez faire attitude for too many situations where being chill just wouldn't happen.

I'll also say, that I most definitely lean "left" politically, and this show is most definitely a liberal biased show. It's quite nausiating at times to be honest.

There are good moments, some enjoyable scenes with the secondary characters, but overall, they're trying too hard to be this perfect show with a perfect President, in a perfect world.

In summation, this show is okay to take in when you need something to watch while eating dinner, which is pretty much the only times I did. If there was a "meh rating", that's what I'd give this.
